Waifu, FWB or One-Night Stand? #9

It’s week #9 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. What this article is meant to do, is go through their personalities, interests, anything pertinent to answering the question if they’re a one-time only, a friend that I might accept the occasional booty call from, or someone I would absolutely spend the rest of my life with.

So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!

Starting off this week will be probably one of the quicker ones due to the simple fact there’s really not much on her when I search for her entire history online, so I’m going off memory with what I remember from watching Schwarzesmarken in the winter season. Because of the war-torn nature of the anime, most of the girls in the show while super pretty didn’t get a whole lot in terms of backstory and side scenes to get a real sense of what the characters are like when they’re not fighting for their lives.

Sylvia is a really hard nut to crack because the majority of her time in the anime is spend being extremely cold and distant to pretty much everyone in the entire show. She admits as well that the only reason she’s in this war and works together with her squadmates is to ensure her own survival, which is super interesting when you think about it, a very realistic representation of what many felt by joining the military during major wars. She was convinced that being close to the military was safer than being a defenseless civilian.

The hard part now with Sylvia is identifying how she might be if she existed in a modern day society where she’s not fighting to stay alive. The little information we have of her that could help us, is how before we see her in the anime, she wasn’t always this cold, she had a couple of very close friends in another battalion. So it’s safe to say that at one point or another she was a lot more friendly than she’s shown in the anime. She does come off as a very loyal person and maybe without a war to fight, she could show a bit more of a calmer, funnier, maybe even a softer side of her.

I can’t really say much more, so here’s my call on Sylvia:

It’s not to say Sylvia couldn’t be a good person, but because of the lack of information I have on her outside of the war she’s become essentially emotionless during, I have nothing to go on that tells me she’s anything but a one-time-only type of meeting. She’s super beautiful and perhaps a beautiful mind when a gun isn’t in her hands, but without the knowledge of what that looks like, I can’t just open up my heart like that.

Do I even have to go through this character? I’m pretty sure by now everyone knows where I stand on this girl. Oh well, guess I’ll do it anyway.

Rikku’s so many things to me. She’s absolutely adorable, her mannerisms are so cute and cheesy, her voice (because Tara Strong fucking nails everything she does) adds onto that cuteness she has, her costumes are both cute and sometimes sexy, though I do prefer her FFX outfit over her FFX-2 outfit and honestly, her overall personality is just absolutely infectious. When so many characters in Final Fantasy games seek to be the most depressing or trying to be the most badass by competing on who has the biggest sword, Rikku is an absolute breath of fresh air. She seeks to cheer up the group and those playing the game by being super cute, super funny and breaking the ice when things get too quiet, too tense or too depressing.

As we see with Rikku’s relationship with Yuna as cousins, she is beyond loyal to those close to her, willing to do anything for them, including completely living a life of sacrilege in a mostly pure religious society where you’re outcasted and sometimes even vilified for the decisions you’ve made. If you are close enough to Rikku, you know that you’ve got someone who will not stab you in the back, in fact she’ll sooner stab someone else in the back for your sake, if it means you’re safe.

Lastly, you just want to hug her. I cannot stress to you how many times while playing Final Fantasy X for the first time (I was also 16 at this point, so Rikku was just a year younger than me) that there were moments where I just wanted to embrace this absolute cutie whenever she was sad, upset, scared, happy, all the emotional moments. In particular, I can recall thinking in the back of my mind wanting to be there with her in the Thunder Plains, to help her overcome her fear of thunder, or at the very least get through it.

I’m not going to waste anymore time, because this decision was made years ago for me:

♥♥ #2 WAIFU ♥♥

While Charlotte is my #1 pick, Rikku is not far behind her, she and Charlotte are at the top of the list, Charlotte for anime and Rikku for video games. Perhaps it is because Rikku was one of the first game crushes I had, but clearly she’s had staying power, lasting over a decade now. Why is that? Because to me, she is the ultimate pretty face cutie pie. She’s beyond friendly, some people may think she’s over-friendly, maybe a little too hyper, but that’s no issue for me at all. She’s fun-loving, she’s very funny and as we see in FFX-2, she does have a more playful, dare I say sexy side to her when she wants to show it? The only thing she could do to check off every box for me would be to have a crazy bright-coloured anime hair and somehow I feel like that might actually not work with her. So I’m more than happy to accept who I feel is the perfect girl for me.

For those who watched Rokka ~Braves of the Six Flowers~, we were treated to a number of beautiful women with interesting personalities. And in my opinion there was no girl more unique and interesting than Fremy Speeddraw.

Fremy is already extremely unique due to the fact she’s actually not fully human, technically a half-human half-monster after a human male was forced to breed with one of the Dark Specalists and was then killed after she was found to be pregnant, devoured by the very monster he was forced to breed with. It’s a horrifying story to say the least, so from the very start, Fremy was going to be born into a tough life. She was born and bred to kill the many potential Saints that could threaten the Majin, essentially the ultimate power of all the monsters. After failing to kill one Saint after already succeeded not just once, but many times in killing other major Saints who would’ve been picked before the ones chosen in the anime, she was banished and thus began her quest of vengeance.

Because of this terrible backstory, Fremy spends essentially 95% of the anime in a complete cold and emotionless state. Even with Adlet, one of the most happy-go-lucky MCs I’ve ever watched in anime, she remained her expressionless self. And that’s large in part to the childhood she had where she was taught to fear the monsters and watched her own “family” be attacked for defending her, she was slowly raised to become the emotionless self she is. The major negative of her throughout the anime is the trouble she has trusting anyone because of the hell she went through during her childhood. It takes the entirety of the anime for her to open up at all.

And when she finally does, we get a glimpse of the potential that this girl has once everything calms down and she has the time to live a normal life again. It appears that before she lost her smile so to speak, she was a very nice and caring young girl and when she finally starts to open to Adlet, we see just a little bit of that. We can also see the primary reason she never trusted anyone in the early going was because after all the hell she’d been through, she didn’t want to create anymore relationships, just to lose them again. In fact, she much preferred the idea of fighting to her death and thus never having to worry about anything again, becoming very frustrated and upset with Adlet when after pushing her far enough, she almost hated him for making her want to live again because she now cared for him.

So with all that being said, here’s my result for Fremy:

Granted the scar where she cut off her horn will be a little weird (can’t kiss her directly on the forehead), but after seeing her open up the way she does at the end of the season, it’s clear to me that if Fremy was living a normal life, one devoid of pain, sorrow and betrayal, she would be an absolutely beautiful woman both in body and mind. She is extremely loyal, obviously why she didn’t want to get close to anyone ever again, because she once she’s in, she’s in for the long haul. And I just imagine a domesticated Fremy (it’s not the best word, but it makes sense given her upbringing is almost like she’s feral) where she’s not living in fear, she’s not fighting for her life and she’s not spending every day worrying about the next person who will betray her, she would be that beautiful, funny, caring woman that we guys dream of having as our partner in life forever.

So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.
