It’s week #11 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!
For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. What this article is meant to do, is go through their personalities, interests, anything pertinent to answering the question if they’re a one-time only, a friend that I might accept the occasional booty call from, or someone I would absolutely spend the rest of my life with.
So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!
This twintailed beauty from Date A Live is up first this week! Kotori is the adopted sister of the MC, so naturally in a harem anime, there’s gotta be implied incest available, however thankfully there is an assurance that under no circumstances are the two related. Phew! Anyways, Kotori’s an interesting case because she essentially suffers from split personalities, in fact having three distinctive personalities.
The first form is that of her “weak self” which is probably the most normal of the three, as she’s your average little sister character in anime, she’s very delicate, cute and adorable, but also has a major dependence on her older brother, Shido.
The second form is her “strong self” which is the form we see for the majority of the anime where she’s her charismatic and generally very cynical self as the commanding officer of the secret organization Ratatoskr, the form that constantly shocks her older brother as being so unlike her. This form also seems to have a massive obsessions with lollipops.
The third form is her “spirit self” which is the most dangerous and then some. She becomes an absolute monster, merciless and fully intentional on killing anything she deems her enemy. This is the form you do not want to be remotely near.
Because of this it’s really hard to nail Kotori down. But here’s my call:
♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠
Despite her absolute adorable figure and the cute “weak self” form she has, there’s just too many opportunities for the either unlikable part of her or the downright dangerous part of her to be around. In her “strong self”, she’s an absolute bitch at times and really isn’t that adorable beyond her physical looks. And then of course the chances of being killed by her “spirit self” is just far too high to risk. So yeah, I’m tapping out on this one and taking the shortest road.
The most “normal” character in all of Dagashi Kashi, Saya is the barista of the show’s cafe and childhood friend of MC, Kokonotsu. While Hotaru is the girl that spends the majority of the anime being overtly (though probably unintentionally) sexual through her various uses and teachings of dagashi, Saya on the other hand is very down to earth and reserved with her actions.
During the series, Saya’s clearly in love with Kokonotsu, but she’s very shy and reserved at all times, usually placing herself in the background as much as she can, especially when Hotaru’s around. She’s the kind of person that goes more with the flow rather than asserting herself into everything like Hotaru constantly does. When around her too, Saya is increasingly shy as she’ll be suddenly put on the spot in various uncomfortable conversations and situations at a moment’s notice.
But when left alone to be herself, Saya’s a very kind-hearted girl more than willing to help out whenever she’s needed. It’s clear that she’s very dependable, able to run her family’s cafe on her own. Though when put to task, in particular by her brother To, she does have a tough, intimidating side, more than happy to kick the shit out of someone if need be, as her brother learns on several occasions.
Also, we see that as a child, she actually had an assertive side, playing Doctor with Kokonotsu a lot and having almost no problem whatsoever expressing her feelings, but of course this is anime, so the MC is dumb and has no idea what’s actually going on. But in the present day, she’s nowhere near as straight-forward.
Here’s my decision on Saya:
♥ WAIFU ♥
I really like Saya, she’s a fantastic case where in an anime full of insanity and ridiculousness, she comes out looking human and a wonderful one at that. Like I said from the top, she’s very down to earth, just a calm and cool person to hang around and just chat the day away with. We also see that with her ability to run her parents’ cafe, she’s more than capable of being independent and not requiring a man to lead her along. She’s just a cool girl and with me that’s pretty much all you have to be to make me happy.
Because Nao is so much like Saya (and Nao’s also a minor character), this is going to be quite short. But this girl from Flying Witch is still a girl more than worth talking about.
A childhood friend of Kei’s, Nao is a girl we see on an every other episode kind of basis, in particular as a classmate of Makoto and a friend of the Kuramoto family. She’s very much your average high school girl, a bit on the shy side at times, but also very kind-hearted and fun when she’s in a calmer state, as Makoto tends to send her over the deep end several times throughout the show, usually because of a mandrake she picked out of the ground in Episode 1.
She’s the daughter of a family who owns a local liquor store in the town and is often seeing making deliveries when Makoto’s walking around town. She ends up being very helpful at times for Makoto, often being the person who gets the easily lost girl back on track. She shows her dependability a lot during the anime. She also has a vulnerable side, in particular with her fear of frogs, which is a hilarious part of the anime.
There’s not much else to say, so I’ll come out with it:
♥ WAIFU ♥
Like Saya, Nao is a case where she’s just a calm and cool girl. There’s nothing overtly special about her, nothing too quirky or anything else that makes her character hard to judge. She’s just a kind, caring, dependable girl and because of that it’s hard to paint her in any other light other than Waifu status. There’s nothing inherently negative about her to put her in any other place. She’s just your average pretty girl and in anime, those are real-life Waifus, not the moniker that we usually give to crazy, super hot anime girls.
So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.
