Waifu, FWB or One-Night Stand? #12

It’s week #12 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. What this article is meant to do, is go through their personalities, interests, anything pertinent to answering the question if they’re a one-time only, a friend that I might accept the occasional booty call from, or someone I would absolutely spend the rest of my life with.

So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!

For me, it’ll be interesting to identify where I stand with Rin because while I’ve watched a couple episodes of the newer version of Fate/Stay Night, my experience with the series actually lies in the 18+ visual novel version of the series.

The majority of the time you spend with Rin, she’s not exactly the nicest person in the world, though she means well. She is extremely brash, bossy, shrewd and she’s quite the loudmouth. She actually has a caring personality, but she hides it behind her hostile demeanor that she displays to the majority of people she meets. I can remember spending the majority of the visual novel thinking “Man…what the fuck is wrong with this girl?!”, without realizing until much later on that it’s her way of keeping herself from getting too close to anyone and also basing her personality on her father who shared a similar attitude in one of the Holy Grail Wars himself.

During the 5th Holy Grail War, we see more than enough moments of Rin showing that she is more than capable of taking care of herself. Not only that, but she actually has a massive sense of honour and loyalty, in particular to Shirou. During the course of the war, she has plenty of opportunities to kill him, especially in the early going, but because she’s the type of person to want to clear her debts first, she opts out of finishing him off, no matter how easy it would be for her, calling it cheap if she did. She is more than willing to help those she cares about, however she does have the bad habit of making the worst mistakes at the worst possible times, referring to it as a hereditary curse.

I don’t have much else to say about her, so I’ll finish with a memory I found hilarious about her. In the visual novel, there comes a point where Shirou needs to help Saber get some of her power back and because it’s an 18+ visual novel, of course that solution is sex. Reading Rin trying to explain to Shirou how basically fucking Saber to give her power is normal and everyone knows this is absolutely hilarious. She’s saying all this stuff without batting an eyelash. And again, because it’s hentai, she naturally couldn’t just stand and watch, she has to suddenly become bisexual so she can join in. Even at a younger age, I just found that absolutely hilarious to me.

Anyways, I’ll throw my decision in now:

I really like Rin, I always have. But she’s not quite at the point I think I could spend the rest of my life with her. She’s an interesting personality, one that I would definitely want to sit around and shoot the shit with, but I don’t think I could handle her aggressive and cold personality all the time as we see that even when she’s close to someone, she doesn’t hide that side of herself at all, it’s still very much there. So because of that, I’ve gotta put her in the middle spot, since I don’t hate her either.

This Asterisk War girl is a classic anime trope, the 13 year-old girl who looks like her age, but her body makes her look like she’s at least 18. Either that or this 13 year-old got some work done on her. Anyways!

Kirin is an absolute sweetheart. Right from the very start, she’s that super shy, polite and just super cute. She’s the classic girl in anime that’s always hiding herself a little bit, has a lot of self-doubt in how adorable she is and she’s not assertive whatsoever, just going with everyone’s wishes, putting everyone else before herself.

However it’s after meeting Ayato that we at least start to see a bit more of an independent Kirin where at the very least she’s willing to make her own decisions rather than waiting for someone to tell her exactly what to do. It’s after this that we see the loyalty she has to her friend, her willingness to help them not because she’s supposed to, but because she wants to. And with her amazing swordsmanship, she’s more than able to take care of herself, hell she becomes a real badass in the second season. Because only in anime can a shy 13 year-old girl can be a better fighter than people twice her age.

So because she’s a more minor character, there’s not a whole lot else I can go into, so I’ll just pop my decision in now:

I intended to throw her in the one-night stand section because her overtly shy and self-doubting attitude can be a little much. But then I remember she’s only 13 years old and in the anime she’s only just starting to break out of her shell. So because I’m not a pedophile and I’d be waiting for a girl of her age to actually become an adult, there’s quite a lot of potential of her becoming a much different girl, nowhere near the constantly blushing tiny girl who wants you to pat her head all the time. I can easily see her being a bit more like a heroine kind of character, rather than the sidekick who’s only there to be adorable all the time (and have big breasts for her age).

Oh hello there Jack, you crazy bitch! Fancy seeing you here.

This Mass Effect character wasn’t even on my mind in her first appearance in Mass Effect 2. She looked terrible, she was a total bitch and quite frankly getting near her would be so risky to my well-being that I’d almost consider taking my chances with Morinth. Yes that’s a joke because fucking Morinth would result in death.

But in Mass Effect 3, at the very least she’s presentable now and doesn’t immediately want to punch every single person she meets in the face. She’ll yell at you a lot, swear like a sailor and still be rather rude, but at least she’s controlling the whole “I’ll kill you!” thing. As a teacher at the Grissom Academy, we actually see a side of her that we didn’t think was possible: a caring side! She looks at her students almost like her little brothers and sisters, willing to risk her life to save them and willing to kill everyone and everything to protect them. Okay, maybe she hasn’t gotten the whole killing thing settled down completely, but it’s progress!

Jack will be best known though for her clearly lack of care in the world during her time as a party member in Mass Effect 2. She was brash, she was mean, she was violent…and then she was so non-chalant she presented Shepard with sex before even developing a relationship like every other option. How dare she break tradition! Monster!

Anyways, all my joking aside, here’s my call:

While I liked Jack a lot more (from zero likability) in Mass Effect 3, she’s not the kind of girl I could see spending any amount of time with beyond a single night escapade. I just can’t imagine having a civil conversation with her, nor can I even imagine really being able to talk to her in the first place. It appears like a first meeting with Jack would just involve her going “Sup? Wanna fuck?” and that’d be it. So yeah, we take the path of least resistance on Jack here.

So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.
