It’s week #14 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!
For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. What this article is meant to do, is go through their personalities, interests, anything pertinent to answering the question if they’re a one-time only, a friend that I might accept the occasional booty call from, or someone I would absolutely spend the rest of my life with.
So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!
Back to Flying Witch, instead of going after a side character. we go straight to the main character in Makoto, the witch in question of the show’s title.
It’s apparent right from the very get-go of the anime that Makoto is designed to pretty much be your average girl, so long as you don’t take into account her being a witch. She’s definitely got a girl-next-door kind of vibe to her, she comes off very approachable and more than happy to approach you. Some would argue she might be a little too energetic about starting a conversation with everyone she meets, but unless she’s trying to hand you a mandrake, the majority of things she starts are harmless and often enjoyable. We can also see that she treats everyone with respect, whether it’s elders or children, she doesn’t seem to have a bad bone in her body.
Now granted there are a few shortcomings with Makoto. As the anime constantly shows us, her sense of direction is beyond terrible, to the point that the only person I’ve seen with a worse sense of direction is Hibiki from Anne Happy, and that anime is designed to be beyond over-exaggerating. She also seems to have a small clumsy streak, though it’s nowhere near as bad as we see many anime shows display with their characters.
Lastly, this could potentially break her in the final decision, but I cannot ignore her tastes and her lifestyle. As we see and assume from the anime, she’s a country girl. She loves to spend time picking herbs in the forest, she’s planting tons of vegetables (let’s assume she does this when it’s not witch-related) and she’s got quite the skill with sewing. Now I used to live out in the countryside until I was 13, but I wasn’t out in like farm territory or anything. So my experience living out in the countryside is more along the lines of having a large yard to play in and having to travel long distances to see friends.
So with all that being said, here’s my call on Makoto:
♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦
I’m sure you figured this decision was coming after the last paragraph, but yeah, I would’ve loved to give Makoto the waifu call, but because she offers a little extra on her lifestyle and interests that not nearly as many of the girls in these articles will give, it’s too hard for me to assume any chance of the two of us being able to live together for the rest of our lives. Ever since moving to the city, I don’t think I could leave that lifestyle of having several major stores within a 5-minute drive, having many friends nearby, all that jazz. Honestly, this decision has nothing to do with her personality, if you took Makoto and changed her lifestyle to that of a city girl, she’s a match made in heaven for me. But because of her country girl lifestyle, I can’t adjust to that and I wouldn’t expect her to change either. Sorry, Makoto!
Because she’s not a very major character in the show she’s from (DanMachi, I’m not writing the full title…), this will be quite short.
What I can recall from Ryu in the series (besides being a total badass), she’s quite the dependable best friend as while she can be very calm and stoic, she’s the kind of girl who in a heartbeat is willing to put her life on the line for the friends she cares about so deeply. In the early going, we see Ryu as just a waitress at the Hostess of Fertility pub in the city. But what we learn later on in the anime is her hidden past as an adventurer where she lost pretty much her entire Familia and in return took vengeance on those who directly and were associated in the murders of her friends. So we at least know through her battle experience that she’s capable of taking care of herself (and other people both in the good and bad way), which is nice.
I’ve really got not much else here, so let’s get the decision in:
♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦
Is this decision based on a lack of information? Yes and no. For the most part, I can admit that because I really didn’t get to see much of Ryu, it’s difficult to tell where exactly I stand on her, at least in terms of her personality. The little I see of her makes me believe she’d be approachable over time, as being an Elf, she’s very hesitant to allow people to get too close to her, fears ensuing. She’s not exactly the sweetest girl in the world, but she’s shown that if you are considered a friend of hers, she will do anything to help you out. I don’t have enough information to hate her, but I don’t have enough information to say I love her either. So naturally, Ryu gets the middle ground here.
Another side character that will cause a very short description, Yoriko or “Mom” as the main characters call her, this Yuyushiki character has a smaller role in this three-person central show as their club advisor and teacher at their high school.
Yoriko earns her “Mom” moniker as being considered extremely kind and caring to all of her students. She’s extremely polite and passive about most of the teasing and jokes sent her way, in particular the many times that the main characters of the show like to point out her massive breasts, which catches her off-guard constantly, but she’s able to keep herself composed and not let it get to her.
We don’t really see much of Yoriko outside of the school, but I think it’s safe to say she’s not that much different at home. I can imagine that she retains that sweetheart personality of hers, I suppose the only question is in whether she’s a neat freak at home or if she’s the anime cliche of being super clumsy and messy.
So again, not too much on Yoriko, so here’s my call:
♥ WAIFU ♥
Now while I don’t have a lot of information on Yoriko, the same as I did with Ryu, what I do have on her is enough to give me cause to believe that this is a relationship that could develop and work out. She seems so easily approachable, really sweet, not too over-the-top elegant like other cliche sweet girls are, she’s just a happy average girl with an average job. And that works for me. I’m not saying she’s a guarantee, there’s things of course I don’t know about her, but with what I’ve got, I see no reason not to give her shot.
So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.
