Waifu, FWB or One-Night Stand? #30

It’s week #30 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. What this article is meant to do, is go through their personalities, interests, anything pertinent to answering the question if they’re a one-time only, a friend that I might accept the occasional booty call from, or someone I would absolutely spend the rest of my life with.

So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!

Leading off this week is a favourite for many. From Shokugeki no Souma, enter Megumi Tadokoro. Naturally in a show full of A-class cooks, Megumi is that as well, but while most cook overly extravagant dishes and treat it almost like a dick-measuring contest, Megumi’s cooking is specifically made so that the eater just feels good after eating it, almost like she cooks with a mother’s kindness infused into her dishes.

That’s where the majority of her characters lies, as Megumi is a very kind, honest and thoughtful girl. She’s the kind of girl that spends the majority of her time tending to others, trying to make everyone else’s lives as pleasant as possible. However, when it comes to herself, Megumi is all over the place. She’s extremely timid and clumsy, gets nervous very easily and when she does, she makes silly and simple mistakes and goes into a massive panic. But as we’ve seen over the course of two seasons, her confidence continues to grow and the amount of time she spends in her panicked state has tremendously lessened.

I could bullshit this a little longer, but I think I’ll just get to the end result instead:

I’m sure this one will shock a lot of readers. The problem I have with Megumi is that quite honestly there’s nothing about her that really draws me to her. I mean sure, she’s a sweetheart, she’s a fantastic cook, she’s just a shining beacon of light and a warm smile. But there are so many other characters who are that as well AND they have a quirkiness to them that draws me closer to them. With Megumi, whenever I watch her on screen, I only look at her as the “timid girl” and nothing more. There just isn’t anything of substance to her that makes me at all interested in her.

The new character introduced in Persona 4 Golden, Marie is the punk girl-looking assistant of the Velvet Room. In the very beginning, she’s extremely cold and distant to everyone, not really interested in talking much to anyone let alone the main character. However it doesn’t take long before she gets real talkative, but not in a positive manner. She gets very pissy, foul-mouthed and full of anger and/or sarcasm, depending on the conversation at hand.

However, over the course of the game, we start to see that this anger is more or less a guise for her shyness, insecurity and quite honestly, her lack of knowledge about herself and the world she’s in now. She also gets super adorable when she’s at her most embarrassed, completely changing her speaking to be extremely fast and just shouting out random insults (see her popular response “shutupIhateyouyoustupidjerk!”) to try and break the situation she’s found herself in. This happens a lot whenever the main character finds her poetry, which apparently is a real soft spot for her.

By the end of the game, Marie pretty much drops the bitch attitude (though it sometimes comes out when she meets newer people) and converts to a more loving and friendly girl. It gets even to the point where she openly confesses her love for the protagonist on live television.

So! Here’s my call on Marie:

It’s almost an automatic when Marie looks the way she does. But as the game progressed and I saw the real side of Marie, I liked her more and more. Initially I was curious about her at best when she was in full bitch mode, but by the end of the game she had completely transformed into a super cool girl with a badass look. She’s everything I want in a girl, she’ll speak her mind, knows what she wants and doesn’t care about what others think about those very things. She looks to me like a best friend forever kind of girlfriend/wife, the kind of girl you could easily spend each and every day with and just shoot the breeze. When the tender moments come, they come.

From a show that I bet not a lot of people watching, Usagi from Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai is a small, busty blonde sniper with a bit of spunk to her, or at least she does until she gets flustered.

Her default personality is very proper and refined, coming from an upper class family and upbringing. But because her platoon mates (mainly Ikaruga) constantly poke fun at her, she diverts from her normal personality and gets very angry and huffy. It doesn’t help that she also suffers from anxiety, especially as a sniper. If the pressure’s really high, it’s almost impossible for her to make a shot.

I could add more about Usagi, but I’ll do so here along with my decision:

What really turned me in this direction on Usagi was during the arc where she’s being forced into an arranged marriage and she ends up spending some time alone with Takeru, the protagonist of the show. She really opens up, shows her insecurities and looks the most real at any point in the anime. To me, Usagi is a super adorable girl with great manners, a soft heart and just wants to be loved for who she is, not how she looks, whether it’s her short stature or her large breasts, which tends to be the only two things anyone ever notices about her. I think ignoring those two things and you’ll see a side of Usagi that is more than worth your time.

So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.
