Week #10 has arrived with this Fall anime season. What’s in store this week?!

As always I’m live reacting (though typing it out to be posted later) to each episode I watch and going over what happens in each episode with the occasional quip and joke here and there. So for those trying to avoid spoilers, this entire article is full of them!

Bubuki Buranki: Hoshi no Kyojin (Ep.10)

SYNOPSIS

Guy was also a heart user who lost his son and had to resume being a heart user again. The comet now crashes into the water where the island is and the Buranki god arrives, that what Treasure Island was hiding deep inside of it. Then a machine-operated Entei breaks the airship and kidnaps Reoko once again, flying towards Deus Magna. Oh never mind, now the comet arrives, breaks into what looks like the head of the god and a massive explosion occurs. Guy starts to attack the god while Justin finds his old teammates, trying to use them once more for the god. So Lakshmi starts kicking his ass, demanding he apologizes for everything he’s done. Apparently that’s all it takes and they’re back together. We see a spiritual form of Migiwa now, positive she died now. A ghost of Oubu calls out to her asking about “their child”. Guy shows up in his own Buranki (the one from the hot spring episode) as he intends to kill both Justin and Azuma’s teams. His new heart controls the Buranki without the risk of death. He seemingly kills Azuma with a stab in the heart and flies into the god’s head. Azuma is fine, but now Guy has control of the god and starts firing on the world. We learn Guy’s full plans now, Entei is the key to the god’s head, hence his fascination with Reoko. In other words, if Entei leaves the god, it will self-destruct, so Azuma sets off to save Reoko once again. He asks Justin for help and a great scene happens. He asks why he should help and after kicking his ass earlier, all it takes is for Lakshmi t stand up and glare at him. However when Oubu approaches, it takes another heavy shot and falls once again, but he manages to crash it inside the god. We shift to Epizo, still broken over Laetitia’s death. But her friend tells him to get a grip and continue to fight, so that her dream for peace can live on. The four remaining gives the American team their Bubuki as extra power and leave them to fight as they have no heart and no Buranki to fight for them anymore. Oubu is inside the god while Justin, Epizo and Kaoruko all fight from the outside.

THE GOOD

  • The villain actually succeeded as caused damage, that’s how it should be!
  • Epizo’s starting to look more like a secondary protagonist now

THE BAD

  • It seems a little too convenient that removing Entei basically kills a god

Episode Score: 4/5

Bungo Stray Dogs (Ep.22)

SYNOPSIS

It would appear the Guild is challenging Ranpo to a set of riddles, like that’s going to stump him. The person behind it, Edgar Allen Poe, someone who was defeated by Ranpo six years ago, and totally forgot about him. Ranpo isn’t interested in playing any longer, but when Poe says if Ranpo wins, he’ll learn the secret to capturing Moby Dick, the Guild’s floating fortress. Poe calls the Guild barbaric and unbearably boring, hence why he’s doing this. Then he activates his ability, giving Ranpo a book and transporting him inside the story itself. So essentially Ranpo, who’s joined by Akiko, has to survive and solve this story in order to win. It’s a classic story, one with a serial killer among the characters in a house they can’t leave due to a blizzard. He also doesn’t have his glasses, so his ability doesn’t work and it seems the book prevents abilities as well. So without their powers, Ranpo is nowhere near as brilliant, though he is still noticing things that clear suspicions, he just can’t fully solve it. Akiko intentionally leaves herself alone in a room for the murderer, but never sees him and gets attacked, taking an axe in the chest. She appears to die and he takes her glasses, which seems to activate something in him. They both leave the book immediately after this. The murderer was himself, the protagonist of the story behind everything, because the moment he arrives in the story, the murderer is suddenly invisible and no matter how hard he looks, this murderer doesn’t exist. He admits that Poe is actually the closest thing to a rival he has, was just messing with him the entire time. However after they leave, Akiko tells him that he’s actually not gifted at all, just brilliant, to which he replies that it’s be stupid if it came out that he was normal now, after all the stories that have come out about him. Now back with the crew, they plan how to infiltrate the Moby Dick with all this information. We then see that Lucy’s ability wasn’t enough to hide herself from the Guild and then we move onto Osamu visiting Ango, who’s very much alive. He wants his help so they can get Kyouka back before their final battle with the Guild. He’ll be able to grant her immunity but only if she’s officially a member of the Agency, as there isn’t. Atsushi took a test early in the first season with that bomb attack on the Agency headquarters, Kyouka has not had such a test. Ango then asks Osamu about the car accident, why his airbag was the only one not to deploy and Osamu just grins, like he knows something big. Upon arriving on the Moby Dick, we see Akutagawa has also made his way onto the fortress as well. There’s no one on the ship except the writer of Moby Dick, the Guild leaving it completely to use the ship as a giant bomb to completely destroy Yokohama. They have an hour before the ship crashes.

THE GOOD

  • I always like Ranpo segments, he’s super funny

THE BAD

  • After Ranpo’s scenes were done, the show got really boring

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Drifters (Ep.10)

SYNOPSIS

The Black King has power to essentially make a giant dragon melt, as he’s so strong. His power is the ability to infinitely replicate anything he desires. Kefka, aka Count Saint-Germi shows up at the Drifters base, demanding to see the Drifters, but naturally they’re not there at the moment. The Dwarves are rapidly growing muscle, just from eating and drinking a little. Yoichi meanwhile is drunk and playing the role of a girl whose top slowly starts falling off. They finally show a musket to the Dwarves in hopes of it being re-created. Joan has woken up, with Anastasia. She learns that Gilles is dead and vows to kill all the Drifters. Anastasia is also pissed off at what’s happened, likely the next opponent. We then see that perhaps the Black King is dying, or fading away. The Dwarves meanwhile have replicated the musket parts already in a single day. They estimate that while they’ll have to get used to the model, but might be able to replicate ten muskets a day, which is huge in his eyes. The Count and company find the Drifters now, Kefka approaching Oda. He claims to be a Drifter and worked with Hitler when he was around in the world. He came to see if they were worth allying with rather than sticking with Orte. The other two start fighting with Toyohisa, which is a bad idea. But then Hannibal appears and one of the cronies collapses, apparently he likes old men with beards. Then Yoichi shows up and the other falls, liking effeminate men obviously. Toyohisa returns with the cronies in tow, so now the Count wants to sell Orte to them, while it’s still worth something before it falls. He’d prefer it falling altogether than to be fractured into pieces.

THE GOOD

  • The Dwarves really mesh with Oda well, bring out the best in him
  • The Count being a Drifter potentially makes for a very interesting plot point that may come in handy later on

THE BAD

  • Yoichi is killing me, man…I think Keijo’s the only thing keeping me focused back on girls right now…

Episode Score: 4/5

Flip Flappers (Ep.10)

SYNOPSIS

All the fragments are gone from Pure Illusion, now it’s a matter of collecting them all together. The villains are prepared to strike once they discover Yayaka’s location. We also see a little bit of sadness in Yuyu as she’s forced to leave Toto if he hasn’t recovered yet. Once again, Cocona has the mist dream but this time we actually see that the girl in her dream is Mimi, whoever she is. She awakens with Papika which pisses her off and demands to hear about Mimi, but when Papika’s hesitant to talk about it “saying if she does, she’d only make Cocona sad”, Cocona storms off. Salt wants to talk with Papika, calling her Papikana and she admits she’s “regained her memories”. Yayaka meanwhile has woken up and is still playing the “I’m your enemy”card, but when Cocona has food, she relaxes for a moment. She reveals that Yuyu and Toto were genetically engineered for Pure Illusion, while she was the only survivor of the initial program where she was implanted with the powers. She also tells Cocona that by having all the fragments, you can bend Pure Illusion to your will. The lab suddenly comes under attack before Yayaka tells her something important, Yuyu and Toto there as well, along with many robots. Before Cocona and Yayaka can leave, the twins show up, demanding Cocona because she has a fragment inside her, also revealing that Yayaka was there from the beginning to watch her. Papika arrives on her hoverboard and runs off while Yayaka keeps the twins there, likely not lasting long with her condition. However, Cocona demands to be let off. Once again, she demands to know about Mimi and Papika calls her a partner and close friend. It appears Papika was part of a research group as well and Mimi was a special girl, the only one capable of getting into Pure Illusion. A young boy is also shown who I think may actually be Salt and Papika’s just an immortal girl now. Anyways, Papika visits Mimi for the first time and she wants to see her more. Sure enough, she bumps into the boy and it is indeed Salt. Somehow, she convinces him to ask his father to allow her and Mimi time outside. During this time, she takes Papika to Pure Illusion, the first person besides Mimi to be able to go. Even though she confided into Cocona, she’s being a bitch and says she hates everyone and runs off. Cocona returns home, but the villains are in waiting and her grandmother is as well, able to stand. She’s been watching her this whole time too. Something awakens inside Cocona and all the fragments Papika’s caring rushes off to Cocona as well. The house is utterly destroyed, her grandmother was also a robot. Cocona is Mimi, or as it might appear, Mimi’s her mother.

THE GOOD

  • I can’t believe it took me so long to figure out Salt’s voice actor is the same as Shuusaku from Bubuki Buranki!
  • Good reveals with her grandmother and Mimi/Papika/Salt’s relationships with each other

THE BAD

  • No battles or anything intense

Episode Score: 4/5

Keijo!!!!!!!! (Ep.10)

SYNOPSIS

Round 2 is next and things already look bad. Kazane is nervous as fuck and in terms of rankings, this team is nowhere near as skilled as Rio and Sayaka’s team. If anything Non will put up the best fight, somehow. The land in this round is…two airplanes? Huh?! Even worse, one of the girls on the opposing side is a fortune teller, that’ll clearly be the main problem. Usagi goes alone off the start and then things get weird…like more than usual. Non’s butt is countered by SETTING IT ON FIRE!!! Kazane’s nearly knocked off the edge as well, all four girls are on the edge now, struggling. But Kazane had a plan going on and sets it in motion, all the girls jumping on the edges of the plane to alter its balance. Two girls fall, leaving fairy girl and the tough-looking girl. Yet it’s obvious they’re still not going to win this match. Yoshida falls immediately, it’s clear the badass girl has both power and speed on her side, a lethal combination. Kazane tells Usagi and Non to concentrate on fairy girl as her power is merely hypnotizing herself and doesn’t actually have supernatural power, she’ll have to weaken at some point. The real challenge however is holding out against this black-haired warrior. Kazane’s ability is even more powerful than we thought, able to copy other people’s techniques as well. So Kazane is playing the role of multiple girls. But then the girl twists her boobs and they act like drills now. Non saves the day, the fairy girl weakened and Usagi takes her into the water along with herself. So it’s Non and Kazane left with Boob-Drill over here. But Non still loses and falls but her fall causes the girl to lose her balance and with one final strike, both girls land in the water at the same time. But in the end, because of voodoo, wizardry and bullshit, Kazane still loses. So Round 3 is the final match.

THE GOOD

  • They made Kazane look like the best fighter out of everyone this episode, loved her this week
  • I actually thought they were going to pull a fast one on us and actually have Setouchi win the first two matches and have Nozomi’s fight be one against the best player, as if it’s her own battle in becoming a prize queen

THE BAD

  • Nothing this week

Episode Score: 4.5/5

My Wife is the Student Council President: Season 2 (Ep.10)

SYNOPSIS

Rin and Honoka are meeting with Kei at school. Rin’s happy that the school’s calmed down, but doesn’t like how it’s been since Ui became president. Test scores have gone up and bad behaviour’s almost completely gone away. Kei then suddenly suggests she follow Ui’s example and date someone. It’s just a shame she’s in love with the guy Ui’s in love with. Mato suddenly gets very annoyed at the thought, likely cause she’s got to find another pair of boobs to get underneath. She then teaches Rin a good way to get someone “going” aka the ol’ wash him with your big boobs strategy. Rin gets the hell out of there and naturally runs into Ui right after this. Both she and Mato point out that Rin is completely blind to romance. So they meet after school and for some reason go to an underwear store, because of course they do. Apparently it’s so Ui finds something to wear to impress Hayato as his birthday is coming up. The two naturally compete with each other. On his birthday, he gets a nice shirt instead of the two wearing sexy lingerie. Rin walks off right after the present opening, embarrassed as hell.

THE GOOD

  • A decent episode, a little cute, a little sexy

THE BAD

  • I was actually a bit bored this week, other than Mato getting annoyed by the idea of Rin being taken, nothing else caught my attention

Episode Score: 3/5

Nanbaka (Ep.10)

Oh dear, we’re breaking the fourth wall again to go back in time and see what happened during Hajime’s suspension. So the dog guy takes charge until Hajime’s suspension lifts. Or actually, he, the monkey and the effeminate guy take turns for the three days. They start down the schedule, including Nico’s check-up. Apparently there’s a sexy nurse android all the guys are into. The second day, birdbrain shows up. He gives them an idea of the prison’s layout. Finally, the third day comes and it’s monkey time. Tsukumo finally shows up on this day, apparently he trains with Yamato all the time. The three don’t like his training so they kept trying to get out of it, but they fail this time. And now we’re back in the present, Jyugo returning to Building 13. Hajime explains everything Musashi said, since Jyugo is dense as fuck. He also declares that he’ll find the man with the scar, as he knows this man will cause Jyugo to try and escape constantly, so to make his job easier he’ll solve that problem himself. Reunited with the other three, Jyugo apologizes for hiding all these secrets about him. We end the episode with the warden, who is beyond happy to see Hajime back. She beat the fuck out of the DJ guy for pretending to be Hajime, so he walks into a blood-covered warden with a sadistic smile (since she doesn’t know how to smile properly).

THE GOOD

  • Momoko completely stole the episode in the last minute, that was so funny!

THE BAD

  • A bunch of random stories, most of them were misses rather than hits

Episode Score: 3/5

Poco’s Udon World (Ep.9)

SYNOPSIS

Hiroshi is at Souta’s house crying up a storm, demanding he gets some “comfort udon”. Poco does his best to cheer him up with a Gaogao doll, which in turn reveals that Manabu is actually the creative genius behind the show. Both Hiroshi and Poco pressure him further about making udon, so he finally agrees, though admits from the start he doesn’t know how. Twice during this process his ears and tail come out and finally Souta convinces him to go outside to hide them. However, for some reason, they’re not going away anymore and even worse, he’s gone full tanuki. After a while he goes to check on him and he’s pretty much just a tanuki now. He tries to hide it, but Hiroshi gets even further suspicious about everything, reminding him about the last time he saw Poco with ears and a tail. Souta finally says though if he and Poco are friends, would ears and a tail change anything, which reminds Hiroshi about how Souta stood up for him when he first showed up and was a bit different. For the time being, Poco has run off as a full tanuki, to hide until things blow over. Eventually his overflowing feelings for Souta bring him back to a human again. He shows up again not long after that. They finally eat and it doesn’t exactly turn out like udon. He calls his sister after, regretting not paying attention to his father more. She also reminds him that at some point, he has to take Poco home, which as we all know means essentially leaving him. The situation’s now even worse that Poco is starting to forcibly change into a tanuki. It also appears that monk is getting suspicious too.

THE GOOD

  • Another cute episode
  • We’re getting some plot going with Poco quite possibly losing his ability to turn human

THE BAD

  • AGH! I can see the sadness coming!

Episode Score: 3.5/5
