Week #10 – Spring Anime 2017

Week #10 has arrived with this Spring anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor (Ep.10) *On Notice*

THOUGHTS

Certainly a better episode than last week, enough to now make me finish the final two episodes, so long as next week doesn’t offend me in the most ridiculously asinine way. With Leos being introduced, I admit I’m a little perplexed as to why we’re getting a new villain so late in the game (assuming this is a one season show) and one that honestly isn’t that interesting. But anything to get Glenn/Sistine going again, I will happily take. Still not a great episode by any means, but it’s shifted back in the right direction.

THE GOOD

  • Back to its comedic roots and not being super serious
  • Re=L’s lack of care during the peeping scene was hilarious

THE BAD

  • I don’t like Leos, but not in the sense of I want him to get his ass kicked, he’s just a bland character to me

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Eromanga-sensei (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

Much like last week’s episode, this episode had us seeing Muramasa making the same claims that Elf did last week. However I will say that this round was far weaker than Elf’s pseudo-proposal, by a country mile in fact. I see a relationship between the two, but in my opinion it’s nowhere near as strong as Masamune and Elf’s, especially in terms of a natural development. What I really see I think is a loving rivalry between the two, an unbreakable bond of friendship between two writers that give each other the strength to keep writing.

Oh yeah and the King’s Game was fun, but way too short!

THE GOOD

  • Elf’s reaction to her real name being called was the most wonderful thing I’ve seen in a while
  • Muramasa gave it her all in trying to thwart Elf for best waifu in this series, I’ll give her that

THE BAD

  • The King’s Game section was way too short, I wanted so much more!
  • A minor detail the anime goofed on was during the King’s Game. Elf undressed to her swimsuit during the game and when her brother returned, she was magically dressed again

Episode Score: 4/5

Granblue Fantasy (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

Same as Akashic, this was a much better episode, though again it didn’t quite stand out as a great episode, especially given that a lot of this episode was filler. I didn’t like the villain’s overly cliche reason to get Lyria down in the dumps, the ol’ “It’s your fault!” reasoning really doesn’t work well anymore, especially when we the audience haven’t seen any negative things from her. But there’s a bit of mystery as to what will happen now and I’m curious to find out just what that is.

Side note, it’s been two episodes and no Marie/Karva. I’m worried they were a one-shot deal…

THE GOOD

  • A good emotional episode, rather than the usual cliche bullshit that just turns me off an “emotional” episode

THE BAD

  • I absolutely despise the cheap villainous method of telling the lead character that it’s her fault that everything’s happen, because she wanted to be free

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Hinako Note (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

This episode for the most part was a costume party ridden episode with ecchi pouring out of it. I’m not complaining don’t get me wrong here, there was a great mixture of ecchi and comedy in this episode. I’ll admit though by the time the got set up for the actual play, I was tuning out again, just because that’s when the best comedy goes away for a constant barrage of Hinako crying and freaking out, which is cute the first time, but after the fifth minute of it, you start to get a little bored.

THE GOOD

  • Mayuki having the dirtiest mind is hilarious
  • If you wanted a funny ecchi-ridden episode, this is the one

THE BAD

  • By the end, I was starting to tune out, a little bored

Episode Score: 3.5/5

KADO: The Right Answer (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

Well shit, this ramped up real fast didn’t it? I never really came up with the idea that zaShunina might be a God, but here we are. Not only that but this new tool has clearly shown us that there is a lot more than human advancement on his mind. While for now I’m unsure how sinister his motivations actually are, it’s clear that his need for information will likely mean a constant reset for humanity, as in complete eradication of the current population and starting from scratch. Hell, who’s to say that this current human race we’re seeing in the show is the original? What I REALLY didn’t expect was Saraka being a God too, not only that but the one who essentially made everything that zaShunina talks about and shows. This is about to become a VERY interesting final three episodes.

THE GOOD

  • Saraka got hotter
  • We’ve now hit a point where there literally is too much for us to handle and I love that feeling everyone is getting from it

THE BAD

  • My brain is being overloaded with information and questions to ask

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

Another fun filler episode for the show as we head into what will be the final two episodes where we’ll really learn what’s going on with Heine’s backstory and what the deal is with Rosenberg and the eldest prince. The shenanigans this week weren’t nearly as chaotic and hilarious as previous episodes, but it’s a reminder of just how much fun they are capable of being when a good episode is on. Two more to go, hopefully it doesn’t end terribly. This show’s got a #1 spot to protect.

THE GOOD

  • Despite the clear path towards our ending which will surely have some seriousness and emotion, the episode still had a good chunk of comedy and shenanigans

THE BAD

  • Nothing to report this week

Episode Score: 4/5

Renai Boukun (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

This episode finally got back to form with everything I loved about the show initially. The randomness, the sexual tension, the over-the-top romantics, everything’s here. And on top of that, we get the best Akua section yet with her finally overcoming Stolas. There was so much this week to love, the slumber party was full of hilariousness and ecchi, the Akua second half was adorable and really brought me closer to just absolutely falling in love with this perfect tomboy. So much to love here.

THE GOOD

  • The slumber party was so good, full of comedy and ecchi
  • Akua has finally come out as a major player and still hasn’t even had to look all girly to do s

THE BAD

  • Not a thing to report this week

Episode Score: 5/5
