It’s week #59 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!
For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. What this article is meant to do, is go through their personalities, interests, anything pertinent to answering the question if they’re a one-time only, a friend that I might accept the occasional booty call from, or someone I would absolutely spend the rest of my life with.
So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!
Kicking off this week is the shiny-haired, baseball bat-wielding heroine of Akibahara. From Akiba’s Trip: The Animation, it’s Matome Mayonaka!
At first, Matome just seems to be your standard tsundere character. She’s very reserved, looks like she’s mad all the time and can’t bothered to show any other emotion, unless you tell her you think she’s in love with the main character, in which she blushes and denies everything vehemently. However, as the series goes on, we see a lot more of who Matome really is behind that tough exterior (and I’m only half-talking about her body, as her clothes get ripped off many a time throughout the series). When it comes to those close to her, especially family, she’s truly a caring person who wants to be next to those she loves every second of her life. She has a well-hidden cute side as well that will show up once in a blue moon, so make sure you’re paying attention when it happens!
So here’s my call on Matome:
♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦
Matome is more a victim of sorrow and pain from her childhood that has caused her to be a little tough to deal with at first. I think that once you get past those initial first meetings (and you don’t royally piss her off), you’ve got a very good friend in Matome. She’s not displaying anything too unique or too hard to ignore, so she doesn’t have enough to make it to the very top, but she doesn’t actually do much wrong to put her at the bottom. So right down the middle she goes!
Second up is the gorgeous professor at Verbena Academy. From the Shuffle! series, it’s Nadeshiko Benibara!
A minor character in the main series and anime, but a romantic interest in the secondary visual novel Really? Really!, Nadeshiko doesn’t get a whole lot of time to shine in the main spotlight of the series. Being the teacher and not one of the students that always spends time around the main character, she has the use the most of her time trying to establish a character and she manages to succeed in that respect. As we see throughout the series, Nadeshiko’s not the kind of person to sugarcoat things, to bullshit, to fabricate, over-exaggerate, all that jazz. She’s as plain and frank as they come, an honest soul, one who’s not going to waste time on trivial matters by making them take longer than they have to. She’s also straight-up with you, she speaks her mind whenever she sees fit, doesn’t try to shy away from anything. She’s got a real mature personality and I don’t believe her age has anything to do with it.
So here’s my call on Nadeshiko:
♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦
Much like Matome, there isn’t quite that special something that really sends Nadeshiko over the top. I’d definitely rate her higher in this middle tier with Matome, Nadeshiko’s got a much more fun personality and a brain I’d love to pick, but there just isn’t that something I can’t ignore that makes me fall head over heels for a character. She’s definitely an awesome personality, a gorgeous woman, but there just isn’t that final piece to the puzzle that makes her absolutely perfect.
Finishing up this week’s edition is the cross-dressing assassin that would sooner press a gun to your head than give you a hug, from Nisekoi, it’s Seishirou Tsugumi!
Seishirou before we meet her, we’re expecting a badass assassin just oozing masculinity. Even at first, she does have the look of a boy, but if you’ve watched enough anime, you’ll figure out pretty quickly what’s going on. Because her mentor just assumed she was a boy from the start, she was trained as a male assassin and because of that, developed a more threatening posture, along with a gentlemanly attitude, being very polite, serious and focuses. But she has quite the short fuse and gets violent pretty quickly when she’s pissed off.
Once we get to the real girl though, holy crap there’s a lot of layers underneath that she’s covering up. Behind this badass assassin is still a very feminine and easily flustered girl if you get close enough to her for her to let her guard down. Specifically compliments and being asked/coerced/forced into more feminine clothing, she gets extremely embarrassed and often completely loses herself, unable to figure out what to do. A man charging at her with a knife? She’s got that, but a nice compliment about her hair? She’s screwed. Aside from that, she’s a lot like Nadeshiko, she’s also very frank and honest, never hesitant to speak her mind when she so chooses. Lastly, when she’s not angry or embarrassed, she does actually have a playful side, though I wonder if it’s mostly just to prove to people that she can be sociable.
Alrighty, here’s my call on Seishirou:
♥ WAIFU ♥
I had this in my head going in, it was going to take something bad to knock her off that top tier, but nothing ever came. In the end, given that I have no reason for her to get violent with me, I’m already starting on a good foot with Seishirou. It’s just a matter of closing that gap and allowing her room to get comfortable in the skin she’s truly living in, not the assassin shell she wears over top. Underneath that tough exterior is a very beautiful personality and mind, one that you can just tell is dying to be let out and allowed to go at full force. But even if she didn’t want to go 100%, I’m into tomboys anyway, so if she wants to retain that short-haired look and look a little boyish still, it doesn’t bother me at all. She’s a great fit for me, no doubt about it!
So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.
