Week #4 – Fall Anime 2017

Week #4 has arrived with the Fall anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Anime-Gataris (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

*sigh* Why do shows have to frustrate me so much? I actually like this show, but from a critic’s perspective, holy hell this anime is frustrating on so many levels. The absurdity of its plot, the fake bullshit the show tries to cultivate with this ridiculous rivalry with the student council, all of this stuff continues to infuriate me and it’s a constant thorn in my side. The main cast themselves are fun, but with this horrendous plot and further horrendous “villains”, I can’t for the life of me give a strong reason as to why you should actually watch this show.

So in all honestly, while I may watch it on my own time, it’s not deserving of being put on these posts anymore, not with the lack of effort it’s done to create an interesting scenario. The cast is good, but what good’s the cast when you don’t want to watch what they’re doing? So yeah, it’s dropped.

THE GOOD

  • The information about the behind-the-scenes in anime production was interesting
  • When the main cast fanboy/fangirl out, it’s awesome

THE BAD

  • The “story” continually jabs you in the side with its lackluster “the Student Council is trying to shut them down every episode” plot
  • Even worse, the President was once into anime, so there’s the “she used to love it” crap, it just doesn’t work here

Episode Score: 2/5 ***DROPPED***

Blend-S (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Miu is making the show even better, playing the role of the devilish girl keeping things at the status quo for her own gain. Not that we mind though, after all it means the insanity between Maika and Dino continues on and we wouldn’t want them married already, would we? Now we’re just waiting for the idol girl, not to mention Miu’s not quite in full character yet if we’re to believe the responses customers are giving about her. Another great episode, the show’s still running at full speed.

THE GOOD

  • Miu’s become a great addition to the team
  • Maika’s attempts to be extremely sadistic was fantastic!

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about this week

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Code:Realize: Sousei no Himegimi (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Decent episode, gives us a little more goings on with Sherlock Holmes (I’m calling him this, fuck the stupid sounding name they gave him) now being a constant thorn in Lupin’s side. I’m not surprised Finis is Cardia’s sister either, after all there has to be some reason Finis is so interested in her. Well, other than the fact she apparently shows her chest to anyone who asks. It was nice to also see Lupin and the gang actually get knocked on their asses for once, we need that stability so that we don’t just assume they’ll win every fight. Otherwise it turns into AOKANA and I’m still not over that bullshit.

THE GOOD

  • Good new secondary “villain”
  • Main cast gets handed their first loss, makes things stable again

THE BAD

  • Baby Drac had almost no screen time

Episode Score: 4/5

Dies irae (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

Was this series’ story always this weird and complicated? Either way, I was getting really intrigued up until the second half with Kasumi apparently being possessed or some shit, then it got really weird and I got very, VERY lost. If the series is going to be able to move forward with me, I need action, I need those cool fights and I need full-on Nazi insanity from the villains in this show, not this tame bullshit we’ve gotten thus far. Girls like Rusalka have gotten me intrigued, now it’s time someone follows through with their promises. So I want to see something worth seeing next week, otherwise I may have to chalk this show up to just being pointless rhetoric.

THE GOOD

  • Rusalka really sold me in the first half
  • Curiosity with Kasumi going foward

THE BAD

  • Was eventually completely ruined by an overly confusing plot that has gone from “Crazy Nazi villains” to a story with so many secrets it’s hiding that I cannot keep up

Episode Score: 2.5/5 ***ON NOTICE***

Garo: Vanishing Line (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

When I think that at some point, the show’s gotta slow down, Jesus fucking Christ it ramps it up even further. This time around, we get a truly horrific story, one of a young woman who’s older priest brother turned out to be one hell of a fucking lunatic. And yet after all the presumed mutilation he did to his sister, she’s the one who becomes a Horror and ends him. First time I think we’ve had a victim to a Horror that we’re 100% having no problem with being killed. Crazy shit aside, it’s also great to have Sophie back in seemingly full force, though I fear we’ll be seeing a Horror version of her brother perhaps as the end boss this season.

THE GOOD

  • One hell of a horrific story about this episode’s Horror
  • Sophie’s back!

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about AGAIN this week!

Episode Score: 5/5

Imouto sae Ireba Ii. (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Oh dear. If this show hasn’t disturbed you yet, Ashley’s definitely found the line for the majority of people now. I’m convinced this anime is just doing whatever it pleases, begging for people to stop watching the show. Puh-lease, they’ll have to do better than that to get me to stop watching this hilarious trainwreck of an anime! Ashley is becoming my favourite character, just watching her fuck around with the two guys is hysterical. I cannot wait to see what happens when she crosses paths with Nayu.

But yeah, if you want to be tested with a ton of deplorable porn game titles like “F*ck-A-Sis”, this episode’s got you covered. Goddamn do I need a metaphorical shower after watching all that.

THE GOOD

  • So deplorable and disgusting, it’s hilarious
  • Ashley may just be the best character all season

THE BAD

  • SERIOUSLY? AN IMOUTO GAME WITH A SCAT FETISH?!!! *throws up*

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Okay okay okay, I know in the end everything was fine, but I have a couple of questions…

  1. WHY THE FUCK DID TI STAB SHIZU?!
  2. WHY, AFTER SAYING SHE DIDN’T WANT HIM TO LEAVE TRY TO KILL THEM BOTH WITH A GRENADE?!!! HE ONLY HAD A STAB WOUND IN THE STOMACH!!!
  3. WHY DID SHIZU TELL KINO NOT TO SHOOT?! HE KNOWS KINO IS A MARKSMAN, IT WAS AN EASY SHOT!!!

Ahem! But yeah, this episode was looking really nice and interesting and then the last five minutes happened and it went all downhil from there. I’m still not 100% sure what those cloaked figures that disappeared were. I guess AI, but why would the clothes just fall to the floor like that? Something had to fill the space, right? It can’t just disappear. But yeah, I kind of have to immediately dock a few points for an EXTREMELY confusing final five minutes, despite that I really liked the “It’s all they’ve ever known, why would they leave it?” message the majority of the episode was conveying.

THE GOOD

  • Nice to see Shizu again
  • Interesting societal positions with this country

THE BAD

  • Shizu almost died for what seemed like no reason whatsoever
  • Ti’s logic is beyond out of wack
  • Very confusing final minutes

Episode Score: 3/5

Konohana Kitan (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Half really good, half not-so-good. Really enjoyed the absurdity of the first half, especially the “reveal” of Ren’s not-real pregnancy, my brain was shitting itself trying to figure out what the hell was going on before her yukata got opened up, revealing the egg. And now we have this super kawaii furry pig running around each week, what’s not to complain about?! On the second half however, this was even further confusing. Yes, I got the whole, Shino is a spiritual representation of the daughter the old woman lost many years ago, but at the very end, the mother ascends up to Heaven as well. Um…I guess this is an anime where you just dissolve into the air and not, y’know…die like everyone else? It was a little confusing and the emotional weight didn’t carry through this story, there wasn’t enough time I understood things to allow me to have an emotional attachment to this story.

THE GOOD

  • Pregnancy absurdity, that was too funny
  • More Yuzu and Satsuki silliness, loved it

THE BAD

  • Very confusing second half, missed out on an emotional reaction

Episode Score: 4/5

Net-juu no Susume (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Well, we’re to assume the beans have been spilled now, Moriko saying enough to the point Yuuta is now connecting the dots and thinking that maybe, just maybe the partner he’s been playing with online is actually Moriko herself. For the next six episodes, the story truly begins now for this love story. I’m getting some bad vibes though, folks. Not because I think it’ll be bad, I just know the broken heart story is coming now. It might not even be with Moriko or Yuuta, but quite possibly the real people behind Kanbe and Lilac, as it’s pretty obvious as well there’s a relationship with those two players, who we know Lilac is indeed female and I’m to assume now that Kanbe is the green-haired convenience store clerk we see all the time. The show was still fun, but I’m now preparing for the emotional distress that will definitely be coming at some point

THE GOOD

  • Expansion beyond just Moriko/Yuuta

THE BAD

  • Potential for emotional distress, broken hearts and tears being shed

Episode Score: 4/5

Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Much better, less time spent making a pointless story and more time with Chisato just being super adorable and soon, drunk off one drink. Can’t really say much else, other than the sexual innuendo that may or may not have been there at the end. Quite interesting…

THE GOOD

  • Chisato, that is all

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

That…was…*sniff*…so heartwarming to watch!!! Seriously, I think all the nostalgia kicked into full gear when all the main rivals of Soma came in to help out and form their own “restaurant” for a day. I legitimately had near-tears, y’know when your eyes start to get into that mode but never shed a tear? Yeah, that’s what I had at the end there. It was so cool to see Ikumi especially join the fray and then the Aldinis helping out as well. I never would’ve expected Subaru though, but it made complete sense, because he mimics everything, he’d be a perfect fit. I loved the reasoning as well for the win, I knew it would go this away eventually, people got tired of standing in line at Kuga’s. My only question though: why only that day?

Anyways, this episode was fan-fucking-tastic and I hope the show keeps this path forward as things keep moving.

THE GOOD

  • Nostalgia up the ass with the super team of chefs coming together
  • Solid reasoning for Soma’s win, he needed help, he didn’t just randomly win

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 5/5
