Week #6 – Fall Anime 2017

Week #6 has arrived with the Fall anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Blend-S (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Standard swimsuit episode, though this one had at least some good moments and jokes in there. Generally speaking, swimsuit episodes are more for fan service, but this one still continues the relationship forming between Dino and Maika, hell we’ve even gotten more ground on Kouyou and Kaho, now that he can’t keep his eyes off her, even when he’s trying to. I enjoyed this episode, as I always do with these kinds of episodes, but I felt it offered a little more than most of these do.

THE GOOD

  • Above average swimsuit episode
  • Both potential relationships improving

THE BAD

  • Nothing to report this week

Episode Score: 4/5

Code:Realize: Sousei no Himegimi (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed this episode, mostly because Nemo may just be my favourite over-the-top villain in an anime. I was dying laughing every time he was on-screen. Not only that, but the race itself was fun to watch, full of cool moments and hilarious hijinks, aka loading Van into a capsule, just to fire him at a ship. Loved it. A nice getaway from the usual plot of the show, gives you a chance to enjoy the characters for once.

THE GOOD

  • Nemo is my favourite villain now
  • Van in a shootable capsule is the best invention ever

THE BAD

  • Knowing that Nemo won’t be around every episode

Episode Score: 4/5

Garo: Vanishing Line (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Another good episode, but again not as amazing as past episodes have been. I’m glad to see Luke back and the Horror being the entire theater was super interesting and yet horrifying at the same time. Sophie’s becoming more involved as well, so there’s progress. But there wasn’t necessarily anything to make the episode memorable, there was no character behind the theater horror and there wasn’t anything memorable either about the battle with said Horror, in fact there really wasn’t a battle at all.

THE GOOD

  • The return of Luke
  • Sophie is becoming more involved and plays off Sword so well
  • Interesting idea for a Horror

THE BAD

  • No character behind said Horror
  • Battle was non-existent

Episode Score: 4/5

Imouto sae Ireba Ii. (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Nothing too special this episode I felt. I mean sure, we got some wonderful Chihiro butt for the first time and yes, we got some real emotion out of Haruto, but I don’t feel I got what I wanted from the episode. It wasn’t that funny, the Cat & Chocolate section was actually quite boring (though I’d play that game for sure) and the seriousness kind of caught me off guard when the show is as funny as it is.

Seriously though, that Chihiro butt. Can we have a scene where it’s her butt and Setsuna’s chest together? I’ll die happy.

THE GOOD

  • I can’t wait for the next time Setsuna and Chihiro cross paths

THE BAD

  • Relatively unfunny episode

Episode Score: 3/5

Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Much like the Holocaust episode of A Centaur’s Life, this episode really evoked a lot of negative emotions in me. I did not enjoy watching this episode, regardless of the “happy ending” in the closing minutes. This was an episode showing the horrific nature of slavery and we watched a bunch of children die, whether they “deserved it” or not. Was not a fun episode to watch, so ignore the rating, as it doesn’t represent the show itself, I’m still way into this show, it’s just that the episode really REALLY wasn’t enjoyable.

THE GOOD

  • Photo at least survived

THE BAD

  • Very negative emotions coming out of this episode, I don’t watch anime to feel this way
  • Unnecessary violence and death of children

Episode Score: 2/5

Konohana Kitan (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

A weird one to say the least. I mean sure, we got Satsuki being scared as hell and continuing to get more attractive, we had Ren nearly strip herself and Natsume (fake or not) and going to town and hell, we even had Kiri being the sexual deviant she is, but the actual ghost story of this episode really didn’t grab me at all. It felt like this was more of a way to get Yuzu’s backstory in, along with a few ecchi situations and a few jokes. The ghost story the episode seemed to be centering around, it just wasn’t that interesting.

THE GOOD

  • Nice bits of ecchi and humour

THE BAD

  • Ghost was interesting, nor was her story
  • Didn’t really react much to Yuzu’s backstory

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Net-juu no Susume (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

I can tell these last few episodes are going to frustrate me. Because you know the story they’re telling is Yuuta basically giving up and letting Moriko get away from him and into the hands of Homare, who is a bit too much. I’m actually frustrated in that Moriko’s even connecting with him, given how over-the-top he is and how reserved she is, I thought she’d be running for the hills. But yeah, you can tell the story is going to be a love triangle that will be frustrating to watch if you’re going for a Moriko/Yuuta shipping, which I imagine is EVERYONE WATCHING THE DAMN ANIME!!!

THE GOOD

  • Moriko continually being super adorable, though I miss the longer hair

THE BAD

  • The love triangle angle is going to frustrate me endlessly

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Oh dear, Chisato has a potential drinking buddy…who might be as attractive or even more attractive than her. Yui’s pretty cool, she’s a hard worker, wants to better herself and is very open with herself, as we see that she has no problem drinking her face off around Chisato. I hope she’s more consistent in the show, but I doubt it honestly, I think the focus is solely on Chisato and Sora.

THE GOOD

  • I love Yui
  • It’s nice having someone who can drink with Chisato, rather than just making her drinks

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about this week

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

At the very least, we didn’t immediate get a lashing of the new asshole villain’s tyranny. Instead, the episode is focused around Soma being tasked with the ultimate goal of breaking Erina out of the hell she’s been in since she was a child. It reinforces a goal he’s already had, to have Erina say something he cooked is delicious. The longer the series goes on, the more you’re rooting for an Erina/Soma shipping, despite how sad I’d be to watch Megumi get her heart broken. It’s nice to see characters like Alice and Hisako really shed the bitch character and become as likable as they are now. Soon, Erina will follow.

THE GOOD

  • Alice, Hisako and a little bit of Erina opening up
  • Dialing it down on the villain taking over Totsuki, at least for one episode

THE BAD

  • I still don’t like this villain at all

Episode Score: 4/5
