Week #7 – Fall Anime 2017

Week #7 has arrived with the Fall anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Blend-S (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Decent episode, started off really well with the jungle setting and the girls trying to get past having zero strawberries in the restaurant, but this episode got a little deflated during the “Strawberry Search Date” with Maika and Dino. It went a little too long, didn’t have enough jokes and kind of lost me for a bit. Even worse, THEY TALKED ABOUT HIRING ONE MORE GIRL AND IT STILL HASN’T HAPPENED!!! IT’S EPISODE SEVEN, WHERE THE FUCK IS THE IDOL GIRL?!!!

THE GOOD

  • Real good spots with the jungle setting

THE BAD

  • WHERE THE FUCK IS THE FIFTH GIRL?!!!
  • Maika/Dino strawberry date was a very weak section of the episode

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Code:Realize: Sousei no Himegimi (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Pre-review: I hate not noticing there were 45 seconds after the credits that I missed…

So yeah, Cardia’s a test tube created being, a Homunculus. That explains the big boobs. This episode was extremely frustrating for me, mostly because it had something that really makes me hate a show whenever it does this. There are few things that really drive me crazy in anime, one of them is when they introduce a new character who plays the role of the innocent civilian who dies to further the motivations of a main character. Elaine did not need to die, Etty did not need to become an orphan, just so Cardia’s backstory could have more emotion. That was a bullshit addition that didn’t need to be thrown in. They could’ve just had Elaine have a sickness she has to live with the rest of her life, she didn’t need to be killed for this. Not only that but the episode ends (credits-wise) with Etty saying she still hates her for killing her mother, whether intentional or not, but doesn’t think she’s a monster. That’s a bullshit ending and the people who worked on this show know it.

As for the post-credits, blah blah blah, Isaac’s a terrorist, blah blah blah, Finis appears to be taking over his work and destroying London, blahbedy blahbedy blah!

…This episode sucked. I don’t have an inclination to put it on notice, but man, this episode was awful.

THE GOOD

  • Not really much honestly

THE BAD

  • A waste of innocent life in Elaine just to terribly push Cardia’s backstory into play
  • Every cliche in the book thrown in this episode
  • I’m not really caring about Finis destroying London, I don’t take him seriously as a villain

Episode Score: 2/5

Garo: Vanishing Line (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Well fuck me I think the happy episodes are over now, because shit just got real. So yeah, El Dorado as we see is looking like some cult organization surrounded by Horrors, perhaps assuming the leader is the “King of Horrors”, leading in people as food or potential soldiers in the organization. We don’t quite know why they’re targeting Sophie specifically for something greater, as it’s clear they were going to use all the children and the Sister as food, but Sophie was to be something more. It’s coming to my attention that her brother may just be more than a missing person. But yeah, Sister dies to what will likely be the end villain, or the second last boss of the series in Dark Knight, who based on his name, I’m willing to bet was once with the group that Sword, Luke and Gina all belong to.

But yeah, um…holy mother of fuck!

THE GOOD

  • Things really moved forward and fast!
  • I was legitimately shocked from this episode, wasn’t expecting the Sister to die

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about, apart from the lump in my throat after that horrific episode

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Imouto sae Ireba Ii. (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Really happy with this one, especially now that we see Haruto is willing to take a shot at Miyako’s heart. The tabletop RPG concept was pretty fun, especially since Nayu endlessly ruined it with her pervy mind that I love so much. It was a nice getaway after an emotional episode last week.

I wonder though how this will all work out. Consider the following:

  1. Haruto likes Miyako
  2. It’s semi-implied that Miyako likes Itsuki
  3. Nayu REALLY likes Itsuki
  4. Itsuki likes little sisters and yet somehow doesn’t know Chihiro is one with that butt of hers
  5. Chihiro clearly has a love for Itsuki, but I’m unsure if it’s just sibling love or not and I don’t know if it’s been mentioned if the two are step-siblings or brother and sister by blood
  6. Setsuna now discovering that fine Chihiro butt may also fall for her as well

That’s quite the crazy potential love…shape, eh? Makes for a very interesting second half now.

THE GOOD

  • I really enjoyed the tabletop RPG setting
  • Nayu ruining everything with her pervy mind as always
  • Potential relationships forming, especially with Haruto now making a move on Miyako

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about this week

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

What a fun episode this was, yet I didn’t find any images that truly gave me the visual I wanted. Honestly, the best way to visualize this episode would just be to actually watch it. By viewing the past of Kino’s master, I really want a series dedicated to stuff this woman did as well, because holy freaking hell she’s a badass! Gorgeous too! It was really cool how they weaved that in at the end, with how her arrival pulled that country out of its repulsive military government and into a much more prosperous and vibrant nation. But yeah, do yourself a favour and watch this episode, it’s awesome and quite the laugh as well.

THE GOOD

  • I want an entire series featuring Kino’s master

THE BAD

  • My only real complain, even though the episode is a 5/5, is that the Master section was fully in sepia tone. Would’ve loved some colour

Episode Score: 5/5

Konohana Kitan (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

A really sweet episode, with the classic fireworks festival in full display. We got quite a lot in this episode, for starters Satsuki still looking sey, even with a mask on, Yuzu quite possibly being dead as it’s implied she could’ve just walked into the afterlife, Okiku unable to leave the inn as she could just fade into the afterlife and another half-episode dedicated to Ren bitching and complaining about Natsume not noticing her, without just scissoring her when they go to bed. Really enjoyed this episode, full of funny moments, moments that made me smile and just plain beautiful moments.

THE GOOD

  • A little bit of everything to enjoy

THE BAD

  • I’m starting to get frustrated with Ren constantly complaining about Natsume and not doing anything herself

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Net-juu no Susume (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Oh my god this anime. Now we know that Moriko and Yuuta were best friends in a previous MMO before Fruits de Mer. Jesus H. Fucking Christ, this show! The overwhelming coincidences is destroying my brain, not to mention the lack of patience I’m having with Yuuta being the little broody bitch he’s kind of becoming now. I suppose that’s the goal of the show though, it wants you to root for the pairing and get it over with already. So I guess it’s doing its job?

THE GOOD

  • Lilac really stood out this week

THE BAD

  • The overwhelming coincidences are starting to get a little annoying
  • I’m also tired of waiting for Yuuta to get his shit together and for Moriko to be so clueless on these coincidences

Episode Score: 3/5

Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

This was so freaking cute, watching Chihiro gets scared and the drunken scared and then just super turned on. This is the reason why I love shorts like this, you get all the best stuff in one quick episode and that’s it, zero time to make mistakes. If you haven’t watched this show at all and don’t plan on it, just give this episode a shot, it’s so freaking adorable.

THE GOOD

  • Chihiro at her absolute best in this one
  • Classic romantic couple watching a horror film tropes

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about this week

Episode Score: 5/5

Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Fuck this arc. It’s taken away everything that made the show fun, it’s given us characters that I legitimately want to punch through my TV and it’s given us a story that is the most infuriating and downright despicable thing I have watched ever in anime. This episode especially has made me hate the show right now and I’m giving it the results of this Shokugeki to show that it’s not continuing with this bullshit.

Side note, I don’t care if you think I’m being a little dramatic and over-the-top in how I’m viewing this show. No, the anime is not doing its job by giving us villains we hate, this isn’t “I want to see them get their comeuppance” kind of hate, this is pure “get the fuck off my TV screen” kind of hate. This show suddenly isn’t fun to watch and that’s why I loved this show in the first place.

THE GOOD

  • NOTHING

THE BAD

  • EVERYTHING

Episode Score: -5/5 ***ON NOTICE***
