Waifu, FWB or One-Night Stand? #59

It’s week #59 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. What this article is meant to do, is go through their personalities, interests, anything pertinent to answering the question if they’re a one-time only, a friend that I might accept the occasional booty call from, or someone I would absolutely spend the rest of my life with.

So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!

Kicking off this week is the shiny-haired, baseball bat-wielding heroine of Akibahara. From Akiba’s Trip: The Animation, it’s Matome Mayonaka!

At first, Matome just seems to be your standard tsundere character. She’s very reserved, looks like she’s mad all the time and can’t bothered to show any other emotion, unless you tell her you think she’s in love with the main character, in which she blushes and denies everything vehemently. However, as the series goes on, we see a lot more of who Matome really is behind that tough exterior (and I’m only half-talking about her body, as her clothes get ripped off many a time throughout the series). When it comes to those close to her, especially family, she’s truly a caring person who wants to be next to those she loves every second of her life. She has a well-hidden cute side as well that will show up once in a blue moon, so make sure you’re paying attention when it happens!

So here’s my call on Matome:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Matome is more a victim of sorrow and pain from her childhood that has caused her to be a little tough to deal with at first. I think that once you get past those initial first meetings (and you don’t royally piss her off), you’ve got a very good friend in Matome. She’s not displaying anything too unique or too hard to ignore, so she doesn’t have enough to make it to the very top, but she doesn’t actually do much wrong to put her at the bottom. So right down the middle she goes!

Second up is the gorgeous professor at Verbena Academy. From the Shuffle! series, it’s Nadeshiko Benibara!

A minor character in the main series and anime, but a romantic interest in the secondary visual novel Really? Really!, Nadeshiko doesn’t get a whole lot of time to shine in the main spotlight of the series. Being the teacher and not one of the students that always spends time around the main character, she has the use the most of her time trying to establish a character and she manages to succeed in that respect. As we see throughout the series, Nadeshiko’s not the kind of person to sugarcoat things, to bullshit, to fabricate, over-exaggerate, all that jazz. She’s as plain and frank as they come, an honest soul, one who’s not going to waste time on trivial matters by making them take longer than they have to. She’s also straight-up with you, she speaks her mind whenever she sees fit, doesn’t try to shy away from anything. She’s got a real mature personality and I don’t believe her age has anything to do with it.

So here’s my call on Nadeshiko:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Much like Matome, there isn’t quite that special something that really sends Nadeshiko over the top. I’d definitely rate her higher in this middle tier with Matome, Nadeshiko’s got a much more fun personality and a brain I’d love to pick, but there just isn’t that something I can’t ignore that makes me fall head over heels for a character. She’s definitely an awesome personality, a gorgeous woman, but there just isn’t that final piece to the puzzle that makes her absolutely perfect.

Finishing up this week’s edition is the cross-dressing assassin that would sooner press a gun to your head than give you a hug, from Nisekoi, it’s Seishirou Tsugumi!

Seishirou before we meet her, we’re expecting a badass assassin just oozing masculinity. Even at first, she does have the look of a boy, but if you’ve watched enough anime, you’ll figure out pretty quickly what’s going on. Because her mentor just assumed she was a boy from the start, she was trained as a male assassin and because of that, developed a more threatening posture, along with a gentlemanly attitude, being very polite, serious and focuses. But she has quite the short fuse and gets violent pretty quickly when she’s pissed off.

Once we get to the real girl though, holy crap there’s a lot of layers underneath that she’s covering up. Behind this badass assassin is still a very feminine and easily flustered girl if you get close enough to her for her to let her guard down. Specifically compliments and being asked/coerced/forced into more feminine clothing, she gets extremely embarrassed and often completely loses herself, unable to figure out what to do. A man charging at her with a knife? She’s got that, but a nice compliment about her hair? She’s screwed. Aside from that, she’s a lot like Nadeshiko, she’s also very frank and honest, never hesitant to speak her mind when she so chooses. Lastly, when she’s not angry or embarrassed, she does actually have a playful side, though I wonder if it’s mostly just to prove to people that she can be sociable.

Alrighty, here’s my call on Seishirou:

♥ WAIFU ♥

I had this in my head going in, it was going to take something bad to knock her off that top tier, but nothing ever came. In the end, given that I have no reason for her to get violent with me, I’m already starting on a good foot with Seishirou. It’s just a matter of closing that gap and allowing her room to get comfortable in the skin she’s truly living in, not the assassin shell she wears over top. Underneath that tough exterior is a very beautiful personality and mind, one that you can just tell is dying to be let out and allowed to go at full force. But even if she didn’t want to go 100%, I’m into tomboys anyway, so if she wants to retain that short-haired look and look a little boyish still, it doesn’t bother me at all. She’s a great fit for me, no doubt about it!

So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.

Waifu, FWB or One-Night Stand? #58

It’s week #58 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week’s edition is the extremely sexy fantasy version of Velma from Scooby Doo, and master of the Thieves’ Guild. From Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, it’s Barbara!

A minor character in the show, Barbara doesn’t get a whole lot of screen time as the master of the Thieves’ Guild and the main character’s mentor. But when she is on-screen, hoo boy does she go all-out and I’m not even talking about her extremely revealing outfit. She’s an extremely hyper girl, as she often literally jumps on the main character whenever he enters the Guild to see her. She’s certainly the type to lead in any relationship, to the point of downright getting on top of you. Literally. No complaints, mind you. She is capable of being calm and collected, but I think it’s pretty obvious she prefers being the quirky side of her far more.

I don’t have much else on Barbara, so here’s my call on her:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

She’d certainly be a fantastic lay, but after that I think there’s a girl who’s just way too overbearing and way too physical all the time. I can’t imagine having a girl around me who constantly leaps onto me and I would never get hurt dealing with that. But in all honestly, her personality, while I enjoy the quirky and hyperactive, her personality literally runs off just that side of emotions and I don’t really see much beyond that.

Second up is the crepe-loving cutie who can kill you before you can blink. From Bungo Stray Dogs, it’s Kyouka Izumi!

Obviously I have no interest in the Kyouka that we see while she’s still a member of the Port Mafia where’s she’s pretty much an emotionless doll. So what I will be going on is the Kyouka that we see after Atsushi has rescued her and she’s opened up a bit.

When Kyouka is past her broken, emotionless form, she’s a super adorable young girl who has an absolute desperate need to learn everything she can and takes such pleasure in the tiniest of things, which will happen when you’ve been a slave and a killer for a number of years. She’s the type that while she does hate what she used to be, she doesn’t dwell on it much, as proving that she’s better in the present and future is more important than lamenting on her past. She’s a real strong girl, one who’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect people, especially the ones she loves. And if you happen to be one of those few people, you’ve got the ultimate shield next to you, she’s always by your side and is quick to notice anything that could be putting you in any sort of danger.

So, here’s my call on Kyouka:

♥ WAIFU ♥

This is going to be one of those few cases where I’m going more on the potential of her growth as an individual rather than what I see right now. The reason for this is that Kyouka has truly only had less than a year to truly live a normal life, as it would seem in the anime. So I think that as Kyouka lives a normal life longer and has the chance to find her full personality without fear of death and fully getting away from her past, she will become an even more beautiful young woman. I absolutely see a fun-loving, life-loving young woman who will always stand by the person she loves. Why would I ever say no to that?

Last up this week, is the Suzuki loving motorcyclist with a penchant for all things pink. From Bakuon!!, it’s Rin Suzunoki!

Rin’s character is very much of a blind believer type, loving Suzuki motorcycles and nothing else, everything else is crap is comparison to her, so it makes you wonder how other things in her life go. She’s a very happy-go-lucky kind of girl that is always wanting to go forward and enjoy life to the fullest, though she’s extremely easy to stop dead in her tracks. After all, she’s got quite the temper on her and is easily offended when you talk any sort of trash about Suzuki bikes. Admittedly, she also comes off as an extreme dunce case, she can be quite stupid, to almost absurd levels at times.

It’s an easy call, unfortunately, so here’s my call on Rin:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

Rin in the anime I think is designed anyways to be an annoying character that you love watching getting her comeuppance and being made fun of constantly. She’s got a short fuse, blindly follows things when she’s told to and just doesn’t really have much of a personality that grabs my attention. She’s a girl who has giant boobs and wears a pink skin-tight racing suit as much as possible. She also has a Suzuki symbol branded (accidentally) on her ass. That’s a bit awkward…

It’s week #57 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week’s edition is the lead guitarist of “The Fallen Moon”. From Fuuka, it’s Sara Iwami!

For this one, I’m going completely off memory, as no one’s really done a personality profile on her. Sara as we discover, is someone who the main character had been talking to for a while online but never met in person. She’s one of those types of people that online are completely different from who they are in real life, as she’s energetic and jokey when over instant messenger, but in-person she’s very quiet and reserved, borderlining between being extremely serious, or extremely weird, depending on how you look at her.

Sara keeps a small amount of company, seemingly the kind of person who just likes having a few really close friends, rather than a ton of acquaintances. Those lucky few will have an extremely loyal and caring friend next to them at all times, one who is always trying to help however she can, has a brilliant mind and not to mention, she’s an amazing guitar player!

So because of my own personal biases, here’s my easy call on Sara:

♥ WAIFU ♥

Her personality isn’t perfect, but as I’ve learned through the time I’ve spent around so many people in my life, musicians bond so well together, they bring out the best in each other, at least when their tastes match. Sara is clearly a rock girl, so we’re not going to be clashing much because she wants to listen to the new Adele record front to back all day long. But I do like her personality a lot, despite her reserved nature, because I see how she is with the few people she’s close to, there’s a fantastic girl hidden behind that tough-looking exterior. She’s someone I could jam with all day, every day.

Second up is the mischevious president of a newspaper club at her school. From Jitsu wa Watashi wa (Actually, I Am), it’s Mikan Akemi.

Mikan is a devilish girl, there’s no mistaking this. She takes pleasure in harassing and bullying others at school, especially when she’s trying to dig up tabloid-level stories for the newspaper club. You would really think at first glance that Mikan is a terrible human being…and you’re not wrong.

However, we do see that Mikan is terrible at hiding truths herself, as it’s very clear that her concentrated bullying is on people she actually cares about a lot, in particular the main character of the series who she absolutely has more than a crush on. It’s almost like she does what she does as a way for people to keep noticing her, to keep remembering that she’s always there. We see that she is capable of being caring and loving, as she is with her two younger brothers, but in the case of someone she’s in love with, it seems like it’s more a case that she doesn’t know what to actually do, so she does the easiest thing to get your attention and that’s pissing you off.

Anyways, here’s my call on Mikan:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

You may think this is a strange decision to make after all the negative comments I said about Mikan, but there is a very logical reason for this choice. Think about it, once you’re in Mikan’s view, there’s nothing you can do, you’re stuck in it. So why go one and done and suffer the consequences of being absolutely obliterated by her devil journalistic ways. She would absolutely ruin anyone who stood her up, so assuming I have to hook up with her, by logic I’d have to take the middle option, so I’m still on her radar, rather than in her sights. She’s a dangerous girl, I’m not taking any risks here!

Speaking of dangerous, finishing up this week’s edition is everyone’s favourite “Police Girl” with the big titties. From Hellsing, it’s Seras Victoria!

Now right off the bat, to fit Seras into real life and while I’d hate to do it, we have to take her away from her vampire ways and keep her as how she is before Alucard arrives and turns her into a vampire when she’s at near-death. So the Police Girl will forever be…a police girl.

As one has to be in order to don on the uniform, Seras is a brave, heroic and strong woman if there ever was one. From her childhood on, she always had been a strong-willed girl and it just transitioned into her life as she got older and became a police officer. A tomboy at heart, Seras is quite the odd mixture of a lot of other anime tropes in terms of personality. She can be extremely childish at times, yet she might just be one of the most mature and intelligent people you’d ever know. She has such a strong grasp of the world and society and has a brilliant mind in terms of how to live and how to act.

Taking away her vampiric rage throughout the series, what we see of her in a more normal state, it’s hard not to love Seras. She’s everything, she can be funny and energetic, she can be serious and super intelligent, she can be weird and quirky, she can be cute and adorable. It’s really hard to come up with flaws about her, without her vampire nature, there really isn’t much I hate about her.

So it makes this decision all that more simple for me:

♥ WAIFU ♥

I didn’t think about it too much until now, but holy hell, Seras Victoria may be one of the highest on the list in terms of waifus that I have, rivaling girls like Charlotte Dunois, Asa Shigure and Cagalli Yula Athha. She’s such a fantastic example of what every woman should aspire to be, what a strong woman should look like. And on top of that, she’s still able to be a fun personality and she’s also able to be one of the prettiest girls in anime as well.

It’s criminally unfair how perfect she is. Ha, it’s funny because she’s a police officer! Maybe not…okay, I’ll go home now…

It’s week #56 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week’s list is the tiny girl that is capable of being an ace pilot of a giant mech fighting alien monsters. From Schwarzesmarken, it’s Katia Waldheim!

It’s quite difficult to judge any of the girls from Schwarzesmarken, because the anime itself is so depressing and in a constant state of war that it’s really hard to pull out the true personalities of these girls. But Katia may just be the closest we can get to having the best look at her personality, as she’s the most unlike the rest of the girls. She’s still very much like all the other members of the 666th TSF Squadron, but she’s still young so she’s got that peppy nature and an overwhelming eagerness to learn and explore more. She isn’t quite jaded yet, so she’s still opening herself to everyone, whereas most of the girls are so war-torn that they’re almost robotic. Because of her overwhelmingly positive personality, she’s the kind of girl that the rest of her unit want to protect, almost like she’s their little sister, the one bright light they have left.

Other little things about her are the usual stuff you’d expect a pilot in a mech anime to have. She’s very strong, a hard worker, has big ideas for the future of her country and the rest of the world. The most significant thing is her very good mechanical skills, something that gets her over a lot with the maintenance team. It’d be nice having someone who can take a look at my piece of shit car when it’s running like garbage all the time.

Anyways, here’s my call on Katia:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Katia’s a wonderful girl, but with her overwhelmingly positive personality and that little sister feel she brings to the table, I think she’s better suited to a really close friend rather than a wife, y’know? I don’t really have anything negative to say about her, this decision isn’t so much coming from a logical standpoint, but just something I feel in my heart. I just don’t see her as the kind of girl I’d live with for the rest of my life. I could definitely hang out with her a lot, but living with her and having a romantic relationship with her? I’m not sure I’m interested in going that far.

Second up is the young-looking for her age girl that can kick your ass five ways from Sunday, from Taboo Tattoo, it’s Bluesy Fluesy!

Dumbass name aside, Bluesy is a very curious case because in the anime she has the body of a teenage girl, but we’re told her age is actually at least double what we’d all guess, a sore spot with her. This is because an experiment on her has caused her body to remain in the young state she’s in, which I imagine a lot of older women would kill for. So yeah, she’s young in looks and older in age and experience, just don’t mention her age to her.

Personality-wise, I’m going solely off memory on this one, there’s no help anywhere, whether Wikia pages, MAL, or any other sources I use to help joggle my memory. Bluesy has the tendency of having two constant personalities that she flips back and forth from, usually one for danger, the other when everything’s calm. When danger is on the horizon, she’s a mixture of deadly serious and deadly angry, the latter being the part you don’t want to trigger in her. She gets very aggressive, though is able to retain a sense of duty and sticking to the mission, having a tactical mind that just doesn’t tell her to rush into everything. Outside of battle, Bluesy is quite the cheerful and sometimes downright silly girl. Perhaps it’s partially her playing the part she looks as, maybe she’s just using her young looks to her advantage, but there are times where she’s way over-the-top happy and jokey, while other times she’s very much your standard composed teenage girl who’s all about studying and preparing for the next task at hand.

So, here’s my call on Bluesy:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

As much as I would love to have a girlfriend that either doesn’t age or ages very slowly (I can’t remember how the anime describes her situation), admittedly it’d get a little creepy after a while, as I age and she doesn’t. But in terms of her personality, she’s much like Katia actually, there’s really nothing too major that I don’t like about her, I’m just not getting the sense of a desire to put her in the waifu tier along with the other girls that have garnered an immediate “YEP! SHE’S IN!” reaction that I’ve given them. Bluesy seems like a really cool girl to hang around, so that’s what I’ll do, but I’m not getting a feeling of wanting anything more than that from her.

Last up is what a lot of fans of the series would call the Chewbacca of the Final Fantasy series. From Final Fantasy XII, it’s Fran!

Fran’s such an interesting case, as she’s perhaps one of the hottest girls in the history of the Final Fantasy series, yet she may just be one of the least charismatic girls in the series as well. She’s very much like your typical emotionless girl that we’re used to seeing more in anime rather than video games, she’s generally silent around most people, specifically those she has zero attachment to. When she does speak, it’s very much in a monotone manner, cool and calm and devoid of emotion altogether. Even among her closest allies, she’s still not the most expression-filled girl, a tiny smile probably being the best you’ll get out of her. She is capable of getting emotional, but it is so rare that it is a real shock when she does. Lastly, she’s one of the most loyal people you’ll ever see, as she’s even as caring and protective as one can be to her sisters back home, even though she’s been long exiled from her homeland. Once a bond has been started with her, it’s near impossible to break.

And here’s my call on Fran:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

There’s no denying how unbelievably hot Fran is, but when you’re a character devoid of personality and you pretty much remain that way, it’s really hard to attach to that person. Take Ramlethal Valentine, a girl of similar looks and personality to Fran. I put in her in the waifu tier. Why? Because Ramlethal as the game progresses actually starts to open up and seemingly has a wonderful personality hidden inside her that’s waiting to get out. For what I remember about Fran, she never changes much from how we see her for the first time. Who knows how she is when alone with Balthier, but it doesn’t appear to be much different and this is pretty much the person closest to her. Yeah…that’s a tough road ahead, I don’t think I could commit to it.

It’s week #55 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week is the genius shut-in computer programmer who makes money out of sheer boredom. From Wagamama High Spec, it’s Toa Narumi!

Toa as I said at the start is a bit of a shut-in, though not for the usual reasons you see shut-in characters portray. Toa’s not an unsociable character, she’s not overly shy, she’s doesn’t have personal space issues, it’s nothing like that. She’s really just a lazy girl who would prefer to keep conversation to a minimum so she can focus on the stuff she really likes, like video games, anime and just surfing the internet to her heart’s content.

What makes her unique is her incredible programming ability, able to make smartphone apps and lottery prediction programs, all with the sole goal to make money, doing the least amount of work possible. She’s actually made quite a lot of money making apps when she’s bored, it doesn’t appear like she’s making them because she likes it, it’s all about just making things and hoping it generates money.

So it should come as quite a surprise what my call for Toa is:

♥ WAIFU ♥

If Toa was the kind of girl who fully didn’t want human contact, this’d be a tougher sell, but she’s really just the kind of girl who wasn’t to keep things short and sweet. She’s more like a tsundere is a lot of aspect, she really likes people, but has trouble showing it, or in some cases would just rather not show it, so it doesn’t impede on her gaming time, or whatever it is she’s doing. I’m willing to bet that once she’s comfortable with someone, she chills a little bit anyways. But on top of that, she fits in with me in so many ways, gaming, anime, keeping things short and sweet, we’re a pretty good match. And selfishly, I’ll admit that her innate ability to generate money almost at will with her work is quite the nice addition.

Second up is a real blast from the past for me, an old anime coming back to me with an old tsundere girl with a kendo stick. From Love Hina, it’s Motoko Aoyama.

Motoko is just about what you’d expect from a 90s-era harem anime girl who practices swordsmanship. Oh wait, it hasn’t changed 20 years later. Either way, she’s your typical girl with morals, principles, all that jazz. She’s very proper, high-class, calm and collected, strong morals with the desire to her duty, whatever it may be. On the flip side, when it comes to anything outside of her “normal”, Motoko is completely naive and confused when it comes to those very things. She’s open to trying things, but is usually beyond her reach and she tends to get irritated when things don’t go the way she hoped they would.

There’s not much more to talk about with Motoko, since I don’t remember much else from the anime, so here’s my call on her:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Like a lot of girls like her, there’s actually a lot to like. She’s very nice, proper, polite, helpful, a lot of very positive traits encompass her. But there just isn’t quite that special something to tip her over the edge. She’s definitely a pleasant person to be around, I could totally see myself  hanging around her and being quite happy about it. But in terms of forevermore? She’s just not quite there.

Finishing off this week is the quirky scuba diving girl who loves to whistle. From Amanchu!, it’s Hikari Kohinata!

Taking away the potential that she’s a lesbian in the anime, Hikari may just be one of the most positive and happy characters you may ever see. It’s very rare to ever see her sad or depressed, but I imagine if she ever hit such a state, she’d be out of it almost instantly. The one state she can get herself in however is when she’s complimented, she gets extremely flustered and blushy, which is quite adorable. She’s also the kind of girl who’s incapable of lying, even if it gets her into trouble.

When it comes to her friends, she’s very dominating, often taking people by the hand and leading them into whatever she’s wanting to do. Her hyper-active nature lends a hand to this as well, especially with her constant desire to blow the whistle she carries around. She’s a go-getter and the kind of person to get someone to break out of their shell.

So, here’s my call on Hikari:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Originally, I thought her hyper-active nature and her instance on blowing her whistle would destroy me, but then I think back to the company I kept in high school and I remember that I dealt with those kinds of folk in doses. Hikari’s the same way, I think. She’s not the kind of person I could hang around every day, but certainly someone I wouldn’t have any problem dealing with on a regular basis. I just gotta bring earplugs for the whistle.

It’s week #54 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. Kicking off this week’s edition, we’ve got the salvage team leader who don’t take shit from anybody. From Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, it’s Bellows!

Yeah, that’s her real name in the series. I know, it’s weird, hell they’ve got a girl named “Melty” in that show. Anyways, Bellows is a tough, hard-nosed woman who leads a salvage team that finds old technology in the sea below. She’s your typical badass girl who doesn’t have time for bullshit, she’s straight to the point, knows what she wants and goes and gets it, not wasting valuable time hesitating or thinking about it. I can only imagine how she’d be if she had combat training, she’d be a scary girl that you wouldn’t want to mess with!

But as a person behind that tough tomboyish exterior, there’s a really kind and caring girl underneath. She acts around others almost like a big sister, keeping people around her safe, offering good advice to help them out and taking action to keep everyone in the best of spirits. She can cheer you up, get you moving and always be available as an ear when needed. She’s actually wiser than her age suggests, she’s not a dumb one, she’s got quite the brain to her.

So here’s my call on Bellows:

♥ WAIFU ♥

Bellows is so perfect for me. She’s a strong, independent girl, she’s got a sense of humour, talks very casually and candidly and she’s not one to deal with or dwell on bullshit. She’s also good with her hands as a mechanic, which is great for me cause I’m shit at most mechanical things, I’m a computer guy. And of course, she’s a gorgeous tomboy kind of girl, what isn’t there for me to love about Bellows?!

Next up is the future-seeing witch who shuts herself in a room to avoid all human attention. From Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, it’s Maria Sarushima.

It’s quite interesting that she shuts herself away from people when in actuality she’s probably one of the more casual and over-the-top flirty girls we’ve had on this list. Granted, there’s a reason for why this generally popular girl suddenly shut herself away, but that’s not why we’re here. Like I said, she’s quite the flirt, giving tons of suggestive comments and is more than happy to give all the hugs (and sometimes kisses) to people she wants to mess with. But all in all, she’s just an overly friendly girl who enjoys being around people when there aren’t events preventing her from doing so.

I’ve got not much else on Maria, she’s one of the last witches to really appear in the show, so I’ll just go straight to my call on her:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

It feels like we’ve been through these kinds of characters a ton now in the year and change since starting this series of articles. I’ll say it once again, a friendly, flirty girl will automatically avoid the lowest tier, but it will take something unique and special to pull her out of the middle tier and into the highest one. And much like many of the others, Maria just doesn’t have anything special to offer that makes her any different than other girls like her, she’s just a beautiful flirty girl. I have no complaints, but she’s also not the kind of girl I’d want to spend forever with. I need just a little more.

Finishing off this week’s edition is everyone’s favourite dragon maid. From Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, it’s Tohru!

Tohru at the very beginning is a dragon who hates humans and wants nothing more than to eliminate them off the face of the Earth. However, upon a girl staying with her for a day, followed by of course being found by Kobyashi at near-death, she’s changed quite a lot from her previous ways of wanting to be in a constant state of murdering humans.

As a demi-human, Tohru living with Kobayashi changes her into your cheesy, over-the-top girl who is very interested in romancing the main character. She’s over-the-top friendly, cheerful as all hell and kind to everyone she meets. She tries her best to help out those she cares about, specifically as we see with Kobayashi, how she tries to be the best maid possible so that she makes her happy. Because she’s new to the modern world though, she’s extremely impressionable and easily influenced and given television today, that’s a very bad thing.

But there’s a major reason why I’ve come to the decision that I have with Tohru, so here it is:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

If you’ve watched the show, you might’ve noticed a key piece of information I’ve left about Tohru throughout the series and it’s a major reason as to why I’m not wanting to pursue any sort of longing relationship with her. SHE TRIES TO FEED YOU HER TAIL MEAT CONSTANTLY!!! Have you seen it?! It looks like demon meat! Now I also get a little put off with her over-the-top happiness, which as I’ve stated in a lot of girls on these posts, they’re a little too much for me. So not only would I deal with that insanity, but I’d have to watch my food at all times for the risk of dragon tail meat to be in it?! No thanks! She’s gorgeous and a wonderful personality, but I’m out!

It’s week #53 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

First up this week is the motorcycle badass who is not hesitant to flirt with those she’s attracted to, from Trails of Cold Steel, it’s Angelica Rogner!

Now right off the bat I have to put in an immediate decision, in that she’s not for relations with me. Why? Because she’s openly lesbian in the game, she only hits on the girls and makes it very clear that’s all she wants. So from here on out, everything is purely hypothetical on the basis that Angelica is either straight or at the very least, bisexual. But in reality, if she was real, I’ve got literally no chance with her.

Angelica throughout the games is exactly as I mentioned her earlier. She’s a perverted, over-the-top openly flirtatious girl with a love of motorcycles, except she prefers being in the front with a lovely lady clinging to her. And when I say she’s open about her sexuality, I mean it in every sense. She’s taking hugs whenever she can, I’m sure she’d be grabbing asses if she could. It’s nice to see a female character who’s completely open with her sexuality and one who actually doesn’t hesitate to go for whatever she wants, as we’re so used to female characters being the type who don’t want romance unless you tell them you like them.

Aside from her infinitely running counts of sexual assault and molestation, Angelica is that classic person you want there in the foxhole with you. She’s extremely loyal to her friends, even to the point she picks them over her family and over her place as the daughter of a major noble man. If she’s needed, she will be there, one way or another.

So here’s my call on Angie:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

If Angelica was looking for more than just female attention, I think she’d be a fantastic person to hang around, a great person to talk to once in a while. But with her over-the-top flirtatious nature, she’s the kind of girl that there’s just no way you’re settling her down. And if I’ve got to compete with some top-of-the-line women, I’m screwed! At the same time, I think her nature would get extremely overbearing as well, so she is definitely the kind of girl that would be best in spurts. Upside if she was bisexual, the threesome odds are through the roof.

Next up is the second commander of Ikta Solork’s platoon, from Alderamin on the Sky, it’s Suuya Mittokalif.

Like many others, this’ll be a shorter description as she’s a minor character and doesn’t really get the screen time to properly flesh out her character. Suuya basically has the role of a commander underneath Ikta, who of course at one point slept with her mother, thus they’re “hilarious” relationship throughout the show. She’s pretty much your standard tomboy otherwise, just with added caveat of being a military girl, so she’s extra serious and extra angry when she’s pissed off. There does appear however to be a more girlish side to her, when she gets all flustered and blushy, but generally speaking she’s all business as a commanding officer in the military.

So here’s my call with Suuya:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

I think there might be a lot more to like about Suuya, but she’s unfortunately a product of a show that not only has her as a minor character, but also a show that is a generally serious military-based anime, which really puts limitations on personalities coming through for anyone who isn’t a part of the main cast. There’s tons of possibilities for how Suuya acts out of uniform, but we only ever see her in uniform and that Suuya is relatively boring to me. So unfortunately this is all I’ve got for her.

Finishing off this week is the super serious girl who naturally has a goddess of love by her side, from Luck & Logic, it’s Tamaki Yurine!

Throughout the series, especially in the early going, Tamaki is the classic super serious girl in the squad who is dead focus on completing objectives by the book and as efficiently as possible. She’s a hard-working girl and doesn’t tend to like those who don’t follow the path that she treads on. Deep down, her reasons for disliking the main character falls simply under her own self-consciousness, she just doesn’t like being upstaged. She wants to protect everyone much like the main character does, she just wants to be THE ONE to protect people. She’s also not the type to want to kill anyone, no matter how evil they are, she wants to protect all life.

Other than that, she’s kind of your standard tsundere kind of girl, minus the romance (possibly), but she is certainly easy to get angry and flustered when pushed a little too far. And yes, she’s adorable as hell when she’s mad.

So anyways, here’s my call on Tamaki:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

I think with her almost “holier than thou” kind of attitude, she’s a tough sell for the highest tier, but in all honestly I think there’s a really good person there with Tamaki once you can get past her rough edges. There truly is a very nice girl there, she’s just a tad bit lost in her own sense of self-worth, once she’s calmed down a bit, she’s a really enjoyable soul, one you could have good conversations with and have a nice time with. Just don’t intentionally try and upstage her.

It’s week #52 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week is the “young” vampire follower of the legendary Ainz Ooal Gown. From Overlord, it’s Shalltear Bloodfallen!

Right off the bat, Shalltear is flirtatious as fuck! Right from the word ‘go’, she’s head over heels over Ainz and flirts him to death, which she could have done if he wasn’t a lich. She’s extremely open with her sexuality and drives everyone else mad because of it. Though despite her sheer shamelessness, she does take her body seriously in that because of her “age” she’s not exactly grown into a full woman just yet. She has tiny boobs, that’s her problem and she hates this fact.

Sex cravings aside, Shalltear as a Floor Guardian takes her role very seriously, a proud and downright frightening girl when she’s focused. She’s a zero tolerance for failure kind of girl, impatient and easy to drive mad when a situation doesn’t go the way she planned it. And if you fuck up under her watch, she won’t hesitate to kill you, so uh…good luck with that! When she fails herself, she gets extremely depressed about it, after her fits of rage, of course.

Lastly, she’s a very loyal girl to the person she attaches herself to, more than happy to do whatever it takes to make that person happy and becomes extremely happy herself when she succeeds. Naturally, the opposite occurs when she fails, she becomes very sad and worries that she’ll be hated by the person she’s in love with, though it appears she has a bit of a masochistic nature, so it kind of works out for her anyway.

Alrighty, here’s my call on Shalltear:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

I mean the whole vampire thing is already a struggle, I kind of like my blood in my own body. But in terms of her personality, Shalltear comes off as extremely overbearing, no matter which side of her it is. Her mood being solely dependent on my current feelings towards her makes any relationship with her an extremely rocky boat and that alone raises a ton of red flags. Besides, how the hell does one get close to her in the first place? I’m dead long before I’m even close enough to her to even think about asking her on a date.

Second up is the mega-star of Keijo and a trainer of the Setouchi girls in the anime, from Keijo!!!!!!!, it’s Kyoko Shirayuki.

Her profile here is going to be short as she was a minor character in the show, but goddamn is she pretty! As a top player in the sport, Kyoko appears as a surprise teacher during a training camp and becomes a bit of a mentor to Nozomi (though apparently in the manga she ends up becoming Hanabi’s mentor) and helping her improve her skills to become arguably the best in her class by the end of the anime.

Kyoko’s personality is usually very quick and to the point, she’s very assertive with her teaching and is quicker than anyone at pointing out mistakes and flaws. After all is said and done though, she’s a very kind woman and tries to help as best she can, albeit in her own way. Just don’t call her an ‘old lady’…

Okay, here’s my call on Kyoko.

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

I really, REALLY want to put her in the waifu tier, but there just isn’t enough there with her to convince myself that she is just that. She’s a kind woman and seems like a nice person to be around, I just don’t see that last unique bit about her that gets her over the wall. She’s a nice girl with a really nice butt, that gets you pretty far in anime, but in real life, I need just a tiny bit more than that.

Last up is a magical girl who loves turning invisible (except it requires her to be naked), from Demon King Daimao, it’s Keena Soga!

Keena is your typical hyperactive, energetic girl that often bumps into things and eats to her heart’s content. Except unlike most hyper girls that constantly bump into things, she does it while naked a lot, due to her constant mischievous nature with sneaking around invisible, trying to eavesdrop on things and just mess with people. Overall, she’s pretty much your standard nonsensical hyper girl, though she does have moments where she plays the cute childhood friend kind of character.

That’s really all I’ve got on her, so here’s my call:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

As much as I’d love to have some around me all the time who could potentially be naked quite a bit, Keena is maybe just a little too hyper for me to be around her all the time, not to mention her overly-mischievous self might be a little too hard on my trust. She’s a real sweetheart for sure, by I raise a couple too many red flags with her to take her all the way to the top tier.

It’s week #51 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week is my favourite Japanese pirate girl. From the Guilty Gear series and a member of the Jellyfish Pirates, it’s May!

Anyone who’s played the Guilty Gear games knows that the bubbliest girl in the room when it comes to the series is May, without a shadow of a doubt. She’s extremely cheerful, almost so cheerful that it hurts, if that’s even humanly possible! Her energy is unlimited and infectious as well, but all in all this is probably due to her young age. She’s still a naive, innocent young girl, she’s going to be quite happy all the time. When it comes to her fellow pirates however, she can become serious as she cares deeply for every single member of the crew, though Johnny is where her attention goes to the most. When he’s in danger, she can become irrational and dangerous, not sticking to her duties and maybe going a little too far for his safety.

The most dangerous part of her however is her extremely crazy fear of bald people. Now as of this time that isn’t a problem for me, but imagine for a second that she doesn’t get over this fear, ever. Most men lose their hair eventually and based on my own family’s history, I will eventually as well if I just let things go naturally over time.

So here’s my call on May:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

In actuality, this decision isn’t necessarily because of her fear of bald people, but is confirmed because of it. May for me, while a fantastic character and a really fun girl to be around, I imagine her extreme levels of energy and cheerfulness might get to be a little too much for me. Who knows, perhaps she mellows out and overcomes her fear of baldness when she’s older, but from what I know of her, she’s not going to reach Waifu tier anytime soon.

Second up is the princess of Alexandria who goes through quite the dramatic hair change. From Final Fantasy IX, it’s Garnet!

Right off the bat, Garnet leans towards the intelligence being attractive route, she’s very much into reading books and learning from everything around her, a lover of knowledge and culture. Though she really likes theater and with my history of watching plays, that might be a bit of a sticking point with me. She’s a very assertive girl, quick to think and is quite good at outwitting people in order to achieve her goals.

In terms of her personality however, it’s hard to get a real read on her for most of the game. For a lot of the game she’s very self-deprecating, more than happy to blame herself for anything and everything, regardless of her level of involvement. She’s the kind of person to want to carry everyone’s burdens and protect everyone when in reality that’s just not going to happen. Though as the game goes on, she lets up a little bit through Zidane and starts being a little more, shall we say normal.

Alrighty, here’s my call on Garnet:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

From my time playing the game, I really only ever looked at Garnet as a slender pretty girl. I never really found much to fall in love with when I was playing the game, actually Final Fantasy IX as a whole produced zero characters I really attached to, though I give Square props for finally having a main character that wasn’t depressed all the time. But Garnet in particular, there just wasn’t much about her, despite her beauty. A lot of the time, she’s your cliche princess character and when she’s not being the princess, she’s just being a total downer. She’s very bright, but only in intelligence.

Finishing off this week’s edition is the shining star of Setouchi, the commander of the “Vacuum Butt Cannon” manuever, from Keijo!!!!!!!!, it’s Nozomi Kaminashi!

Like May, Nozomi is extremely energetic and constantly happy, though it’s more in her selfishness to become a prize queen in the fictional sport of Keijo rather than just being blindly energetic, Nozomi’s energy has a purpose and a route. Despite her initial dumb energetic demeanor, she’s actually quite clever and more than capable of outsmarting even the best opponents. She’s also extremely determined, it’s very hard to phase her and get her to move away from the goal she currently has in mind and shooting for, she’s not one to back down. Lastly, she’s quite the motivator, not selfish in trying to be the best on her own, she wants competition and she wants her friends to be just as successful as her, so she’s always helping them improve and cheering them on.

Outside of Keijo, Nozomi is quite eccentric in more ways than one. She can be a very silly person, quite the jokester and always trying to break the ice with people. What really defines her though is her clear lack of boundaries when it comes to her body and others, as she apparently has no problem whatsoever just stripping in front of people, or talking endlessly about her naked body. Granted, she plays a sport where all she does is swing her butt and boobs around in a swimsuit, but we see that in the show there are still boundaries and morals with most of these girls.

So, here’s my call on Nozomi:

♥ WAIFU ♥

I don’t know what it is about “country girls” in anime, but there’s 99.9% of the time super attractive to me. I guess a lot of it has to do with the uniqueness and eccentricity that comes with their personalities. In Nozomi’s case specifically, it’s her neverending cheerfulness and energy that while can be over-the-top at times, doesn’t go over the line to becoming annoying or just too much to handle. And any girl that’s more than comfortable in her own skin, that’s an immediate plus to me, I can’t stress out enough how attractive it is to me when a girl is happy how she is and not thinking of a million different things she needs to change about her body.

It’s week #25 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

So because it’s edition #50, I thought I’d celebrate this milestone by looking at the list I have and taking the three names I’ve been wanting the randomizer to hit the most.

So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!

Kicking off this week is the #1 character on my entire list that I’ve been praying for the randomizer to pull up. She’s one of my favourite female characters in a video game ever! Hail the crazy stalker dark mage! From Fire Emblem, it’s Tharja!

Tharja is best known for endlessly stalking your protagonist, regardless of gender and being EXTREMELY amorous around him/her. When she’s interested in you, there’s no way you won’t know, but her lack of self-awareness prevents her from knowing just how hard she’s pushing. If you’re one of the few people she has an interest in and then the one person she’s romantically interested in, she’ll devote herself to keeping you safe, very protective of the few things she has that she cares about. To her, your life is more important than her own and hates the idea of being a survivor, as she blames herself for the death of soldiers that protected her during a battle before you come across her in the game.

Around other people, she’s definitely a cold personality. She has a tendency of threatening to curse people with her dark magic when people she doesn’t like get too close to her and especially when they get in the way of her attempts of romance with someone else. She is capable of changing over, but it’s a rarity. She’s either too focused on her romantic quest with the protagonist, or she’s too busy with her work that she doesn’t want to be bothered. It even carries on into the future with her daughter which apparently she completed ignored in the alternate reality because her husband was killed, work took top priority. In the present day though, she’s a little more involved with Noire.

When it comes to her body, which is easily the hottest of all Fire Emblem characters, Tharja has zero awareness about the massive sex appeal she has. In the Summer Scramble DLC, Cordelia finally lets her in on what to Tharja was a secret, and she becomes extremely self-conscious about it, getting beyond embarrassed about this shocking reveal. The same happens in the Harvest Scramble when Nowi comments about how Tharja has the largest breasts of all the women in the army, same reaction afterwards.

Anyways, here’s my call on Tharja:

♥ WAIFU ♥

Since this is an assumption that Tharja going head over heels for me, this is a really easy decision. If Tharja has zero interest in me, it’s an easy answer as well, but because this article operates under the idea that every girl could potentially marry me, Tharja in the head over heels category and as we’ve seen in the games, when she loves you, she’s an unbelievably enjoyable woman. Her horrible sense of humour is fantastic, she’s quite charming though she has no awareness of how charming she is and most of all, I mean…come on! She’s absolutely stunning! I don’t normally involve looks into this, but it’s freaking Tharja, one of the hottest video game characters I may ever see! Sexy, funny, intelligent and caring. Everything I could possibly want is here with Tharja.

Second up is the #2 on my list I’ve been wanting to get to. The dark-skinned beauty devoid of emotions and full of violence, from the Guilty Gear series, it’s Ramlethal Valentine!

As I said, Ram is completely devoid of emotions for the majority of the game’s story. She’s a creation rather than a normal birthed human being, so she was born without emotions, or the capacity to feel them. This is what makes her so interesting and honestly really attractive to me in the game. A girl of her beauty speaking in that monotone, almost bored sounding manner really pulled me in. The Valentines when created also don’t carry values, to them nothing is right or wrong, they don’t like or hate anything, they’re apathetic to everything. There’s no feelings involved, just obeying the orders of “Mother”.

However as the game progresses, we see that Ramlethal isn’t quite as devoid of emotion as we think. She’s actually got some free will, as early on in the story mode, she’s withholding information from people, not just being brutally honest as the Valentines are supposedly programmed to be. Watching Ram play dumb and try to bluff her way out is pretty funny to watch. But most of all, by the end of the game she starts to get emotional, taking a particular relationship with a magehound as the key piece, but having some care for her “sister” Elphelt as well.

So in the end, the real question is whether or not Ramlethal over time could become a good choice. So what’s my verdict then? Well…

♥ WAIFU ♥

I flip-flopped on this for a few minutes before coming to this decision. I could just as easily hang back and watch Ramlethal perhaps grow into a wonderful woman, but if such a girl existed, I’d take the risk and run straight into the middle of things. When Guilty Gear Xrd‘s story mode ends, I see so much potential in an emotionally-driven Ramlethal. I don’t know if her voice would ever change (personally, I hope it never does, her voice is strangely attractive to me), but if her attitude changes and she starts really caring for someone and even developing romantic feelings for someone (aka me), I think it’s more than worth the risk to see what that actually looks like. She seems to be getting past the whole “kill everything because Mother told me to” thing, so she’s a much safer bet now. And a hot one at that!

Finishing off this milestone editon is my #3 on the list. From Persona 4, it’s my favourite “boy” detective, Naoto Shirogane!

For those who don’t want to be spoiled by a 9 year-old game, too bad! Naoto’s not a boy, in case you haven’t played/watched enough Japanese content to figure out when a boy’s really a hot girl. She grew up without parents, becoming a detective at a young age, an unbelievably intelligent and talented young woman, though hides her true gender because of her fear of not being taken seriously in the police force if they were to know a young girl was better than all of them.

She’s initially very quiet and uptight, growing up in a proper, formal home a large part of that, though he insecurities add onto that. She’s not much of a joker, very serious and focused with anything and everything she does. Her insecurities is where she really fleshes out though, being a victim of sexism and intolerance most of her life trying to get to where she is by game-time. She’s extremely self-conscious and in a way ashamed of being a girl. She tries to solve this by dressing masculine, not responding to being called with male pronouns and even starts binding her breasts (which must suck given how big they actually are) to hide the fact that she’s a VERY feminine looking girl.

Upon getting past her Shadow, Naoto does at least try to embrace some of her femininity, but continues to struggle with it, as we see when she’s put in a swimsuit for a contest, she runs off before anyone sees her. She would’ve won easily, by the way and still does anyways, despite not coming out on stage. By the end of Persona 4 Golden, she’s actually starting to dress more femininely as well and looks stunning as such, though I could never imagine her in a high-heels and elegant dress kind of look, she’s more of a tomboy. Lastly, we see that she truly is in full control of her femininity, as in the ski trip she gets so scared her voice completely changes to a much more feminine voice, basically tipping her hand that everything she does in terms of her looks, posture and even her voice is all an act to hide her true identity. That voice is adorable, by the way.

So here’s my call with Naoto, albeit with a caveat:

♥ WAIFU ♥ (if she wants to pursue romance)

The reason I put this caveat in is because even if you “date” Naoto in the game, she still seems reluctant to a romantic relationship. There’s hinting of her being interested in Kanji as well, but out of all the girls in the game, she looks like she would rather not be involved in anything at all. Perhaps it’s her focus on work that drives her away, maybe it’s still her self-conscience of her femininity that wants her to stay away from romance as she’d have to admit her gender and take the role of it completely. Either way, Naoto is a girl that I’m interested in, regardless of how she looks, boy or girl. Her personality is what drives me, her intelligence is extremely attractive to me, not to mention the hidden feminine side she tries to suppress. Those moments make her extremely attractive, it gives me something to wait for when it happens again, Naoto being more like a girl is almost like a special occasion and I would treasure that.

But the key to this relationship is only if Naoto would want to get romantically involved. In every other case we’ve had in the last 50 weeks, there’s always been an assumption that every girl listed would be somewhat interested in a romantic relationship. Heroes, villains, young, old, tomboys, girly girls, all of them carry the idea that they want to fall in love at some point. But Naoto’s different, she holds the potential of not ever wanting to be in love. So for me, I’d love to be that someone, but if she’s not interested, then my hands are tied, y’know?

So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.
