Waifu, FWB or One-Night Stand? #49

It’s week #49 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. What this article is meant to do, is go through their personalities, interests, anything pertinent to answering the question if they’re a one-time only, a friend that I might accept the occasional booty call from, or someone I would absolutely spend the rest of my life with.

So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!

Kicking off this week, is the dark-skinned and extremely gifted (though still losing to main character Claire) best friend and protector of the aforementioned extremely large-chested Claire Harvey. From Hundred, it’s Liddy Steinberg!

This will be solely off memory, it appears I was the only one who liked Hundred and therefore no one wrote a lick about her, not even MAL has a brief biography of her! From what I remember about Liddy, she’s very much your typical protective best friend kind of character. She sees the main character in Hayato as someone who’s just after Claire to take away her innocence, her purity…her virginity. Come on, it’s a harem anime! Behind that rough, short-fused exterior that Liddy has really does lie a strong, caring young woman who just wants to keep her best friend safe, albeit more from lecherous eyes than real danger, but hey it’s anime, what’d you expect? You have to stay protected from perverted eyes as much as you do giant killer robots!

When it comes to her one-on-one with Hayato though, we eventually see her let her guard down (through various ecchi anime moments such as falling on top of Hayato, her crotch literally a foot from his face) and show off a more vulnerable and normal side of her where her over-protective nature takes a backseat. That’s when we see the more shy and casual side of her, one that looks a lot less dangerous to be around. She’s very down to earth, very chill when she’s not trying to keep men from staring at Claire’s boobs (which are the size of watermelons and even that might be not a big enough comparison), she actually looks very approachable and someone you could hold a fun conversation with. She’s certainly got her shit together, that’s for sure!

So here’s my call on Liddy:

♥ WAIFU ♥

Liddy’s one of those girls that if not for a certain circumstance, she’s really an awesome girl. Because of the curious relationship between Hayato and Claire, Liddy spends a lot of the anime being an over-protective, rugged bitch that you probably wouldn’t want to get on the bad side of. This might still be true with the more normal, down to earth Liddy, but when you take her away from those two, I truly do feel comfortable around her, she’s someone that I could have a million conversations with and not feel bored or annoyed. And with someone as well composed as she is, she’s a real strong girl and that’s very attractive to me.

Second up is the Princess of Obel, from Suikoden IV and Suikoden Tactics, it’s Flare!

Again, not much on her, but this is due to her being in a game where you can have 108 party members, so there’s only so much screen time you can get. From what I remember of Flare, she’s certainly a strong young woman, the daughter of Lino En Kuldes, King of Obel, who is also a tough son of a bitch. She certainly takes after her father, that’s for sure. Though as a princess, she doesn’t really like being pampered to and called royalty all the time, she actually hates being called Princess Flare, preferring just her name. She’s a princess of the people to her, not royalty that needs to be respected just for her title.

Personality-wise, it’s hard to remember much on her. I know she was very soft-spoken and cares deeply for those around her, staying behind when the kingdom was claimed by another nation, to keep up appearances and hope for Obel. She’s also more than willing to help people she doesn’t know, saving the main character and his friends early on in Suikoden IV.

That’s all I’ve got on Flare, so here’s my call on her:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

I’m not sure if having more information on her would put her in the highest tier, but for sure there just isn’t enough of her shown off to me in order to get a perfect sense of where she’s at. She certainly carries the charisma and stature to be someone I wouldn’t despise and feel I wouldn’t be able to have a great conversation with, but there just isn’t enough for me to believe that we’d be anything beyond friends. Besides, being friends with a princess is still pretty cool as it is.

Finishing off this week’s edition is the over-the-top diva of a Bubuki user, from Bubuki Buranki, it’s Kaoruko Kazuki!

Wow, three girls this week, all of them with almost no information on them. Geez, I don’t want to have to only watch the most popular anime and play the most popular games just to get extra information on girls! Anyways Kaoruko as the twin sister of main character Azuma, she acts as the polar opposite to him. While Azuma is very quiet and reserved, Kaoruko is an over-the-top, over-exaggerating, over-dramatic girl with a voice so loud, I’m surprised some people haven’t gone deaf. She certainly has a childish side to her, though I think in the show she’s barely a teenager, so it makes sense to have that side still. I think it’s very accurate to call her a diva, she’s constantly doing things, saying things, posing in ways that draws all attention and eyes on her, she certainly enjoys being the center of attention.

It’s hard to get a good read of how she is on the inside when she suppresses it as much as she does, mainly in her hatred towards her brother who is really the only person that would be able to get her to open up. She comes off as a girl who just wants to be loved and because of her not-so-good childhood, she never really found that and seems to resent everyone around her for it. So she puts up her facade that is pretty much devoid of real emotion and plays the over-dramatic act on top of everything.

So here’s my call on Kaoruko:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

Part of me wonders if there’s really a wonderful girl underneath everything I’ve seen from Kaoruko, but if I’m solely taking on what I’ve seen and not speculating at all, there just isn’t much to like with Kaoruko. Sure, as an anime character, she’s awesome for being an over-the-top kind of girl, but if we’re talking relationships, if we’re talking friendships, I can’t see being around her very long without getting super annoyed by her. Maybe there is a great girl under all that, but I don’t think I’d last long enough to find her.

So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.

Waifu, FWB or One-Night Stand? #48

It’s week #25 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week is the stunning red-haired pegasus knight, from Fire Emblem: Awakening, it’s Cordelia!

Cordelia is best known for being a prodigal daughter, a genius in everything she puts her mind to. Initially she tries to downplay this, often getting a little annoyed whenever she’s referred to as such, but we discover it’s more due to her prideful nature, as she’s been saved before by her colleagues, who would sacrifice themselves to keep her alive. It’s very clear she doesn’t want to be the damsel in distress, she doesn’t want to be protected, she wants to be the one protecting people. She’s also a huge workaholic and a perfectionist. She does not like the term “average”, especially if it ever describes something she does. Her intentions are to master anything and everything she does.

In terms of her personality, she’s on the surface your typical stoic soldier, very well-mannered and professional. With certain people though, it’s found she can be a little ill-tempered and also due to her perfectionism, her self-esteem can be quite low at times. Lastly as this is love-relevant, she’s an unrequited love kind of girl who doesn’t come out with her feelings.

So here’s my call on Cordelia:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Honestly, even before her unrequited love stuff, she was painfully average anyway and yes I’m using that word on purpose here. There really isn’t anything overly bad about her, but at the same time there’s really nothing unique about her either. There’s nothing to grab onto, nothing to draw you in, beyond her beauty. So if anything, I’ll help her get out of her own head and actually try to go forward with her true feelings.

Next up is the idol turned wrestler, from Wanna Be The Strongest In The World!, it’s Sakura Hagiwara.

Descriptions are short on her, so I’ll have to make this brief. Sakura as I said was initially an idol put in this weird promotional thing where she trained to be a wrestler and have a match, but after losing in humiliating fashion, she decided to stick it out in wrestling until she could get that win back, soon finding a love for wrestling instead. She has confidence in whatever she does and wants to prove herself to be more than just a pretty girl (with big boobs) to everyone who doubts her. Hell, after a while she also wants to help other fighters get better as well.

Away from her wrestling though, she’s your standard anime girl, she’s very energetic, always showing up with a smile. But she’s also very innocent and thus naive and can get emotional real fast.

All right, here’s my call on Sakura:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

She has a little more to offer than Cordelia, but much like her, Sakura also doesn’t really carry anything that leaps out at me and pulls me in. Sure, she has a love for pro wrestling, but unlike Minami, the wrestler who trains her later on, she didn’t grow up with it, she doesn’t love it in the same manner. For her, it was more a challenge that she ended up respecting. I’m not convinced I could have the same conversations about wrestling as I could with someone who started out a wrestling fan like most pro wrestlers do.

Finishing up this week’s edition is the blue-haired Thors Military Academy student whose sword would make Cloud proud. From Trails of Cold Steel, it’s Laura S. Arseid!

In the Trails of Cold Steel series, she’s the party member who is your stoic, always training to get stronger character. Laura unlike everyone else is well-composed, prideful and is very dignified. She’s the kind of person who focuses solely on bettering herself, getting stronger and has difficulty accepting those who don’t share the same level of dedication that she does. As a noble also, this carries even further into her beliefs, a very righteous girl who will not stray from her beliefs and is especially cold to those who disagree with her, as we see with her initial relationship with Fie, though this mostly has to do with perceptions she made of the former jaeger. She does become self-aware eventually and does admit her narrow-mindedness and is a little embarrassed about it.

She is also aware of herself being quite the intimidating person. She’s a very powerful swordswoman and her size and stature adding onto the intimidation factor. A lot of this comes from her sense of duty to protect, as well as being a noble, to many she comes off as overly formal and when you add the intimidation factor to her, she can seem like a holier than thou kind of girl, when in reality she is always happy to help those who are weaker than her, wanting everyone to be just as strong as she is. Granted, if she achieved this goal, it would only make her want to become even stronger once again.

And finally, here’s my call on Laura to end this week’s edition:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

I think her being my second favourite girl in the game after Fie, a lot of it has to do with her looks and honestly the fact that there’s no one you see with less clothes on than her. She’s a member of the Swimming Club, so there’s a lot of time in the game where you find her in that classic tight-fitting racing one-piece swimsuit. There’s still a lot to love with her, but her strong sense of righteousness and her overbearing desire to make those around her strong, I don’t think I’d be able to keep up with her. I mean sure, if I was able to keep up with her, I’d look like a million bucks, but that’s only if I managed to survive her rigorous training regiments and I’m pretty sure I’d died after Day 1.

It’s week #47 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week is the visual novel loving member of the Neighbors Club who wears a butterfly hairpin that I’m amazed never pokes anyone eye out. From Haganai (Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai), it’s Sena Kashiwazaki!

Sena on the surface seems like your classic ordinary school girl, but holy hell is there an arrogant and prideful personality hidden underneath, not that she hides it that well. She generally treats men like servants, almost like she’s the school queen and is more than aware that she does this and doesn’t care. When faced with anyone gutsy enough to counter her, she starts becoming childish in nature, throwing fits and insults all over the place. She also extremely gullible as is seen through Yozora’s many tricks that she plays on her, which leads to more crying. She’s very obsessive, to the point that she’ll beat the shit out of anyone who bashes something she’s into and anything she doesn’t get into she completely ignores, no matter what you say to her. Lastly, she does have a nice side to her, I know it sounds like she’s all bad, but she does care for the few friends she has.

But in the end, this decision is obvious, isn’t it?

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

She’s awful, guys, there’s no doubt about it. Granted, that’s her character in Haganai, she’s meant to be this horrible young woman that you’re supposed to not like so that when she gets her comeuppance, it’s more than worth it. But in a relationship standpoint, there is absolutely no reason for me to want to try and get with someone who treats men horribly, what’s in it for me? Big boobs? Sorry, but I like smaller boobs, so she literally has nothing to interest me with.

Second up is the main antagonist with the “God’s Tongue”, from Shokugeki no Souma, it’s Erina Nakiri!

For the majority of the anime, Erina acts like your typical pampered rich girl, she’s pretty much got the “holier than thou” attitude going on, only wanting the best and anything less means absolutely nothing to her and shouldn’t exist. She is generally polite to those when she first meets them, but once you annoy her or insult her, that’s it, you’re on the blacklist for all eternity. But in secret, there’s a much softer and downright nerdy side to her that she doesn’t know how to present. She loves reading shojo manga, but because someone always bought them for her, she doesn’t know how to get them on her own and fears it’ll tarnish her image if she’s ever seen anyways.

There’s not much else to say about her, this is pretty much the gist of Erina, so here’s my call on her:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

Much like Sena, Erina’s personality really doesn’t go well with me, though she does have a little more positive things about her than Sena. But her cold personality and her lack of common sense and decency the second you start to annoy her, there’s just no way it could work out between us. I’d cook one thing and she’d throw me out on the street.

Finishing off this week is “everyone’s favourite” high-pitched happy girl, from Final Fantasy XIII, it’s Oerba Dia Vanille!

As most people remember her from the games, Vanille is an extremely bubbly and happy personality. Despite all the hardships she’s faced as a L’Cie, she remains very headstrong and upbeat. She does carry a bit of a childish personality to her, but it’s nothing that really bothers me that much, honestly. There’s no one in the game more caring for her friends than Vanille, always trying to help her friend cope with the stress they’re all under, constantly keeping up her happy-go-lucky attitude. This however is a bit of a facade to hide her fear that she clearly has, that’s how strong she is, despite how scared and sad she is, she stays in the brightest spirits. She can be easily moved to tears, however.

Alrighty, here’s my call on Vanille:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

I don’t think there’s quite enough there to convince me she’s in the top tier, but her happy-go-lucky personality is certainly more than enough to keep this week from being a one-night stand sweep. It’s nice when there’s a really upbeat character in depressive Japanese games, I really don’t understand why there’s so much hate from fans on Vanille. Maybe they just hate happiness? Can she be a little overbearing? Perhaps, but she’s not doing it to annoy you, she’s doing it because she knows you’re in dire straits and she wants to help you break out of it. If that’s worth hating then I don’t know what to tell ya!

It’s week #25 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week is the super adorable ball of energy, from Hoshizora, it’s Ui Nakatsugawa!

This’ll be a shorter one, as I’m working off of memory for Ui here. The easiest thing to talk about with her is her infectious bubbly personality, in that show there is no one remotely close to being as happy and upbeat as she is. She’s very energetic, carefree, over-exaggerate with her facial expressions, all the things you’d expect from an over-the-top bubbly anime girl. She also has a massive love for food, with a bottomless pit of a stomach. The lone thing about her that can throw someone off, is she does have a bit of a childish side to her personality, as a lot of these girls tend to have.

Like I said, it was going to be short, but here’s my call on Ui:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

Some might be surprised I went to this point with Ui, after all I’ve done much better with other bubbly anime girls before her. But when I watched the show, I was constantly turned off by Ui, especially with her childish and sometimes selfish nature. Sure, she’s a giant ball of energy and her smile can be infectious, but there was so much of the anime where I was rooting for everyone but her to get the male protagonist in the end. She’s a fun girl, but I don’t think I could take being around her all the time.

Second up is the very dangerous Commander Gear, yet has a pacifistic side. From the Guilty Gear series, it’s Dizzy!

Dizzy was born the daughter of Justice, the main villain of the entire series, a violent and arrogant Commander Gear. She is however only half-gear and half-human and was raised in a small village while she aged quickly due to the cells in her body. Instead of becoming another violent Gear however, Dizzy is a pure-hearted, very innocent young woman who wouldn’t hurt a fly if she could avoid it. She’d rather be kind to everyone and would rather be left alone in solitude than used for her power to hurt and kill. And that’s exactly what she does when her power starts to truly awaken, as her two wings Necro (left) and Undine (right), she isolates herself in order to protect everyone around her, as she’s afraid of her power, calling it a curse.

However, she longed for human contact and eventually was found by the Jellyfish Pirates, who for those unknown to the series are the happiest pirates you’ll ever see. In their care, she truly found herself loved and having a sense that she had a family now. For the first time in a long time, she was truly happy and now had a reason to fight, for her family and friends. Now a mother, she has blood-related family to fight for as well.

On the side, she’s got a massive love for knowledge, constantly reading books and growing her vast repertoire of knowledge. She’s a bit of a realist when you really get down to her full train of thoughts, believing in the cycles of nature, both in how humans being at the top will destroy much of nature and how at the same time, humans eventually will die out as well.

So, here’s my call on Dizzy:

♥ WAIFU ♥

I mean, I don’t know how I’m going to work around the two giant ass wings, but for what I’ve seen of Dizzy when she’s not being forced to fight or when her powers are out of control, I can’t help but fall in love with her. She’s such a beautiful woman, both in body and mind. Now granted, if you count the entire storyline thus far, she’s had a child with Ky Kiske, my favourite male character in the series, so I’m kind of in an odd place, but if I met her before she and Ky got together, you bet your ass I’d be trying my luck with this Gear. She’s worth the risk.

Capping off this week is the American agent that apparently doesn’t like wearing a bra, from Taboo Tattoo, it’s Lisa Lovelock!

This will be extremely short because I have literally nothing to go on with her besides my memory AND she’s a minor character, so bear with me here as I attempt to go through her personality. But from what I remember of Lisa, aside from her training and work, she’s a very casual, easygoing girl. She certainly has a confidence in herself and a lack of embarrassment as she’s constantly working in a very loose tanktop that does a horrendous job at covering up her large breasts. She has a bit of a humor streak, as she often pops jokes, even when she’s captured, much like many characters in action shows/films. Lastly, it’s clear that she does have a more “sexual” side to her, as she’s very open about her body and flaunts it to anyone she feels like messing around with, male or female.

So yeah, here’s my call on Lisa:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

When I watched Taboo Tattoo (especially when I was actually enjoying it before the last few episodes), Lisa was one of my favourite characters. She had a real fun-loving personality, seemed like a cool girl to be around when a lot of girls are very one-note and boring. The only thing really holding her back from the top tier with me, is honestly her overly sexual personality. Don’t get me wrong, from someone watching in the background I love it, but if I was in a relationship with her, I’d definitely be thrown off with her being this way to other people aside from me.

It’s week #45 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

Kicking off this week is the overly shy (yet very energetic online) character designer at Eagle Jump. From New Game!, it’s Hifumi Takimoto!

In the show, Hifumi’s character is very basic. She’s the classic so shy she can’t talk to people and when she tries to she’s the most adorable character in the entire show. At Eagle Jump, she rarely says a word to anyone, yet if you contact her over instant messenger, she’s cheerful as can be, complete with over the top emotes and everything! Even at home alone she still appears a little meek and uneasy and ironically owns a pet hedgehog in Sojiro who’s just as shy and uncomfortable around people as she is.

But regardless of her overly shyness, there’s such a charm to her that is so hard to explain to most. Yes, Hifumi basically can’t look you in the eye and talk to you, but for whatever reason, it’s that part of her that makes her so attractive and so interesting. And because anime is such a perfect art, the faces she makes, the sounds she makes, all the things she does when she gets nervous and flustered, she becomes as I mentioned earlier the most adorable girl in the room.

So with that being said, where will I actually place Hifumi? Here’s what I think:

♥ WAIFU ♥

It’s an interesting call to say the least, because in reality you have to make that decision with the understanding that you have no idea what a shy and easily flustered girl like Hifumi would actually be like if she ever managed to settle down enough for a single partner. So I had to go based on her interests, her style, things like that, but most of all, her personality while talking on instant messengers really made that decision for me. It’s very clear that behind that massive bubble she has, there is an extremely bright and bubbly personality waiting to explode on the first person to really get past all her barriers. And I can only dream of what that would be like.

Second up is another girl from New Game!, this time a member of the animation team and one you don’t want to be around when she’s holding something. Once again, from New Game!, it’s Hajime Shinoda!

The polar opposite of Hifumi, Hajime is the total package of energy and insanity, a clear tomboy with a love for action-packed battle sequences, weapons and anything else that excites her. She is constantly walking around the office with a prop weapon in hand, swinging it around for inspiration of how to make the characters she animates move in whatever way she needs to animate them doing. She’s very light-hearted and carefree and now being introduced to a younger rookie staff member in Aoba, she breaks out of that a little with the first semblance of responsibility of taking care of someone younger. The whole “being someone’s senpai” thing really got her turned around.

I don’t really have much else to go with on Hajime, so I’ll just make my call here:

♥ WAIFU ♥

I’m pretty sure I could say yes to almost every character in the entire New Game! anime. There really isn’t a girl on that show that doesn’t have a lovely personality and seems like a really awesome person to hang around. In Hajime’s case, as I’ve said many times here, she’s already won a ton of points with me being a bit of a tomboy, but on top of that loving video games, anime and action movies at an even higher level than myself is another big part of why I’m so interested in her. How could I not love someone who loves everything I love and on top of that isn’t a bitch?! It’s impossible!

Finishing off this week is the The Last Priestess of the Winds, from the Soul series (Soul Blade/Soul Calibur), it’s Talim!

Now this will obviously be short because in most fighting games, the majority of characters don’t have a lot of screen time, so for Talim there really isn’t a whole lot to go on. From what I’ve seen of her, she’s one of the few characters in the series who is actually against fighting and killing, only fighting and defeating her enemies when there’s no other option. She’s seems to have a little bit of a shyness to her, but it feels more like it’s just her being young and innocent and not exposed to the more dark sides of the world. Basically, she’s a super nice girl.

So because I’ve got nothing else, let’s just make the call:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Talim is one of my original game girl crushes, but in the end she suffers from a constant character type that just can’t get past the middle tier. She’s a nice, kind-hearted girl, but what else is she? For me, being nice and kind isn’t enough, that’s expected of you, I want to see something unique and interesting about you. But in Talim’s case, there’s isn’t that spunky personality, that quirky sense of humor, that over-the-top energy, none of that’s there, she’s just your typical gorgeous girl who’s super nice. And the middle tier is where they all go.

It’s week #44 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

For those new to the article, this is not a post that talks about the “fuckability” of three randomly selected female characters from various anime and video games. I’m already attracted to them, it’s to be implied that I would share a bed with them already. So without further to do, let’s meet this week’s contestants!

01

First up is the silver-haired beauty who was once a former rival idol to 765 Production before she ended up joining the crowd (and probably semi-regretting it) that is the craziness of 765 Production. From THE iDOLM@ASTER, it’s Takane Shijou!

I don’t have too much information on Takane, both from lack of personality descriptions in Wikia pages and just the fact I’ve only spent a little bit of time with the series, so I haven’t spent as much time with Takane and company as I have with many other girls in these posts.

Takane comes from wealth, a very rich family, so she carries a massive aura of elegance and majesty, one you’d expect from your archetypal rich girl anime character. However she doesn’t exude some of the other usual tropes from a character of that ilk, she doesn’t come off as overly bratty or demanding to be looked at like the motherfucking Queen of everything. Instead, she’s very polite to everyone and actually had a dependency on being around people, not liking to be alone. She’s a real smart cookie and naturally as the show goes, she has a tremendous voice and a fond love of being on stage.

That’s all I got for Takane, so here’s my call:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Unlike most prim and proper elegant rich girls, Takane doesn’t actually do anything to really rub me the wrong way. Yes, her beauty is also a huge reason why it’s easy for me to not want to push myself away from her, but in the end she doesn’t stand out to the point that I see her in the top tier with so many other girls that have so much to offer. Perhaps there is a really beautiful and enjoyable personality that I haven’t seen in Takane, but for what I’ve seen of her, there just isn’t enough to push her to the top.

Second up is the the dangerous, violent Rewolf Black Institute fighter with a scythe that controlled gravity at the expense of her blood (yep!), from The Asterisk War, it’s Irene Urzaiz.

Taking the early form of Irene, it’s clear how dangerous she is and how unlikely it would be for anyone to want to get close to her, despite her very attractive badass beauty persona she holds when she’s not barring her fangs and having glowing red eyes. Before her fight with main character Ayato, she is the embodiment of rage and violence, she brings a new meaning to the phrase “overly aggressive” and is one of the most rude and irritating characters around. I will admit however, even at her worst, there was a certain charm to Irene that just kept me interested in her and I was convinced I’d see a much better form of her soon.

And I wasn’t wrong. After her defeat at the hands of Ayato and her mystical scythe being destroyed, as the series progresses beyond their fight, it’s clear that Irene has mellowed out quite a lot. She is a very honorable woman, always keeping to her word. She comes off as a girl that wouldn’t bother hiding secrets from you unless she was being paid to do so, because to her it’s almost like it’s a pain in the ass keeping them. By the end of the current season, the last time we see her, she still retains a bit of that rude charm she has, but she looks like a young woman who’s grateful to not be in the heat of battle all the time, like someone who’s been to war for a long time and has done more than enough and just wants to relax. She’s not the most cheerful person in the world, but she also comes off much more realistic.

Which is why this call (albeit surprising perhaps) is so easy for me:

♥ WAIFU ♥

Even at her worst, Irene still held a place in my heart. If she literally was only the violent girl from Season 1, I probably would’ve been forced to put her in the lowest tier on the basis that she’s way too dangerous to even try to wave at her, let alone try to start a relationship with her. But in Season 2 once she mellows out a bit, she becomes such a real and fun girl. I don’t necessarily enjoy the overly cheerful girls. I can, but there’s usually an extra quirk to add onto it and really bring it home. In Irene’s case, she has that edgy personality that shows some real beauty once in a while. I imagine with how her relationship is with her sister, Priscilla, that this young woman is one who will protect those close to her with her life and loves them deeply. That side of Irene, that’s a side I want to be around. Forever.

Finishing off this week is the werewolf artist that ends up drawing some real goddamn sexy manga. From Outbreak Company, it’s Elbia Hanaiman!

Like some characters, there’s not much information on her, as the anime isn’t as popular, so all of this is going off memory.

Originally in the show, Elbia was a spy from another kingdom looking into the goings-on since the arrival of the otaku, Shin’chi. When she was found, she eventually was employed instead of imprisoned. Why? Shin’chi and company wanted to make their own manga and Elbia was a very talented artist, so she became his personal artist for just that. In most cases, she’s very cheerful, more leaning to the hyper side of cheerful, often plays the role of the big-breasted girl who is a little huggy. She has a slight “danger” to her, if you want to call it that though. She at times will get in heat and becomes very “aggressive” when it happens, as Shin’chi found out.

I really don’t have much else on Elbia, so here’s my call:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

It’s a shame I don’t remember much more, but ’tis the case when you haven’t watched the show in a couple years. My short memory of Elbia, I felt neither hatred nor undying love for her, so the middle tier is an easy call in the end. Her hyper, cheery nature always brings a smile to my face with that kind of character, she has the unique look of her werewolf form, not to mention her tanned skin (which I’m a sucker for) and yes, her lack of clothes. I just have to watch my back when she’s in heat, or at the very least just make sure my bedroom door’s locked. Somehow I figure that might not work…

It’s week #43 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

01

Kicking off this week is the blue-haired succubus vixen who while wants you so, sooo bad…she’s still a virgin and is actually a lot more innocent than you’d expect, from Rosario + Vampire, it’s Kurumu Kurono!

In the beginning, she’s your typical succubus, seducing men and hypnotizing them to gain control over them. But when she meets the main character in Tsukune and especially after he saves her from the dangerous “Inner” Moka, she changes her ways a bit. Instead of using and abusing her powers to gain people’s affection, she intends to make Tsukune love her naturally. And given how there is no one more confident in her body than Kurumu, she uses every other trick in the book to pull that off, constantly dressing in revealing attire, pushing her breasts up against him, things like that. But in reality, she wants to win without her powers and when questioned about her methods being very unnatural for a succubus, she gets all flustered. She’s a teenager in love, what’d you expect?

With her friends, at times Kurumu looks like she’s a selfish, arrogant girl, but that’s just the outer shell of her. Once you really pay attention, you find that she is actually a very kind and caring girl for her friends, even though they’re pretty much all rivals for Tsukune’s love. Even the girl she knows he has eyes for, she can’t bring herself to hate her, she wishes she could, but the bond the two girls share, along with the bonds she has with the other girls as well, she views them almost like sisters.

And here’s my call for Kurumu:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Assuming she’s not cheating and using her powers on me, I think the true Kurumu is a much better person than she’s comes off as in the early going. After watching the entire series, it’s very obvious where this girl truly lies and that’s as a close friend, one I can talk to about anything and everything, someone who truly wants the best for me and is willing to help out whenever she can. And well…she’s also a close friend who’s constantly trying to vy for my affection and does so by undressing and pushing her boobs against me constantly. But a close friend, nonetheless…

01

Second up is the girl who loved facing her back to the camera so much I actually had to have a weekly “Yume Butt Counter” whenever I was reviewing a week of anime episodes, from Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, it’s Yume!

The archer of the group, Yume is a very brave and energetic girl, usually the happy face of the group, the one who keeps everyone as cheery as possible, which given the depressing nature of the anime is certainly a tall task if there ever was one. She’s very outgoing and friendly with everyone, despite the toxic relationships between other members and certainly with how negative a few of them are all the time, especially a certain asshole who calls her a “boobless woman” constantly, even though she has breasts (small, but they’re there) and one of the best butts in all of anime, it’s not like she’s not packing something for anyone attracted to women to look at! Lastly, she’s a strong girl when it comes to her emotions. After loss, she manages to be the one to hold it together the most, though it still does affect her a lot, she’s just able to keep the happy face on the best and try to push through it.

I don’t have much else on Yume, so here goes:

♥ WAIFU ♥

I fell in love with Yume almost right from the very start of the anime. She has that quirky, cute small girl look to her that I’m just a sucker for AND on top of that, she’s got red hair. So she’s already got me going before I even take a look at her personality. In the end, she more than passes that test as well, being a constant positive and full of life, a trait I will never bore of in girls. It’s plain as day to me that this girl away from the context of the anime and it’s depressive story, Yume is a massive ray of light and that’s the kind of girl I want in my life.

01

Finishing off this week’s edition is the daughter of the tech mogul in the game and a girl who has a real skill in misunderstanding situations where her breasts gets squeezed, from Trails of Cold Steel, it’s Alisa Reinford!

At first glance, Alisa is your typical rebellious girl character that comes from a rich family, she’s got that posh, self-centered aura about her, but is also quick to judge, takes everything very over-the-top and displays a lot of the traditional anime “tsundere” tropes on top of all that. She’s a bit of a hot-head and like I said, she easily misunderstands things and holds long-ass grudges over them, regardless of whether the person she’s mad at actually did anything wrong. With her personality being as vulnerable as it is, she flusters very easily, especially in the first game where she’s given the task of rooming with boys at one point and then every single time a family member or her maid, Sharon appears. She’s a walking blush machine at times.

Alisa is an extremely independent girl, more than capable of handling herself. She could’ve just eased back the seat and lived comfortably in her family home, but her determination to cut out her own path superseded that in spades, running away from home just to enroll in Thors Military Academy where the game is set. Her ideology is far different from her mother’s, the president of the Reinford Corporation, a tech and weapons manufacturer. It’s clear Alisa believes that while producing weapons isn’t terrible, making weapons of mass destruction like the railway guns at Garrellia Fortress.

The most pertinent thing about Alisa that she tries to hide, is her clear love and care for her family, regardless of how she feels about her mother (father passed away, cause y’know, Japan and dead parents…) in the present day. She only wants to see her mother happy again and fears she’s going to work herself to death and leave Alisa completely alone. She is capable of being close with outside people as well, having close to a sisterly relationship with her maid, Sharon.

Alrighty, here’s my call on Alisa:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

There are some tsundere characters that are more than capable of capturing my attention, but in the two Trails of Cold Steel games thus far, while I don’t necessarily hate Alisa, she really hasn’t shown me much for me to take her seriously in a relationship capacity, especially when there are a ton of other girls in the series that are doing a far better job at just that. The first impression I had of her was awful, especially when it became obvious that the game was pushing this as the most likely shipping with the main character, Rean. Generally when games and especially anime push a particular relationship in a potential harem, that character is almost always the most unlikable. In Alisa’s case, she just comes off too bitchy the majority of the time and honestly her look doesn’t separate her from other girls either. There’s just nothing memorable about her that’s positive.

It’s week #42 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

01

Kicking off this week’s edition is the gorgeous green-haired “spirit medium” with a bit of a drinking problem, from Punch Line, it’s Rabura Chichibu.

Going completely off memory here (no help from Wikis or anything), Rabura plays very much the sexy older woman who lives next door role. She’s quite charming, can turn on the sexy side with a flip of the switch, she comes off like that cool, hot girl you’d totally want to have a beer with. Which is great because she sure loves to drink! She’s always at an emotional high, when she’s happy, she’s really happy, when she’s mad, she’s kicking doors down and when she’s sad, she’s flooding the building. She appears to have a materialistic desire as she’s constantly trying to either nail down a rich boy or doing some ‘get rich quick’ scheme. Lastly, she comes as a friend who wants to help and is happy to help, but doesn’t prioritize it at the very top.

I suppose the answer’s obvious at this point, but here’s my call on Rabura:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

I’ll fully admit that beyond her being the “hot girl” character on the show, I really didn’t care for Rabura. Her character just came off to me as either bitchy or just over-the-top levels of bad. It’s so hard to nail down where she’s being genuine and when she’s putting on the act and when I can’t identify who she really is, it makes it really hard to come to any other decision. She’s a pretty face, a smoking hot body and I’m honestly not sure there’s much else about her that remotely piques my interest.

01

Speaking of hot bodies, next up is the ‘perfect’ female member of Cerberus whose butt apparently attracts all cameras, from the Mass Effect series, it’s Miranda Lawson.

Miranda starts off as a classic sexy ice queen kind of character when she’s introduced in the second Mass Effect game. She’s a tough, cold-hearted Cerberus agent more than okay with putting a bullet in someone’s head when she has to. As we start to talk with her however, while she doesn’t really remove the reserved, distant side of her, she peels back the layers of her tough agent demeanor and shows us that there is a normal girl underneath. Well, as normal as a girl can get when your father spent a ton of money making you the ‘perfect woman’. As she tells us, she was created to be perfect, both in mind and (especially) body. It’s a sticking point to her in a way, as while she enjoys being as good as she is, at the same time it bothers her because even though it’s been very beneficial to her, she was essentially forced into it.

As the series goes on, Miranda doesn’t change too too much, she keeps that silent, but deadly demeanor all throughout the series, the only thing that changes is really once you start a romantic relationship with her. She still doesn’t open up too much, but she does start to be a little more aggressive when it comes to physical contact, as she tells Shepard at one point that she wouldn’t mind if he ‘admired her body’, not to mention she pretty much sets you up to go into the engine room and start her sex scene in the game. It seems like she’s the kind of girl that once she has eyes on someone, she’s not playing around.

So, here’s my call on Miranda:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

Out of all the female characters in Mass Effect, Miranda may just be the one I enjoyed the least. She’s certainly one of the hottest in the series, but her personality for me is just so easy to either hate or just be indifferent to. I don’t feel like there’s any sort of a happy personality with her, certainly not upbeat and that’s a big red flag for me. She’s not even the monotone-speaking girl who at times can break that character and become adorable, Miranda literally holds that partially lifeless character the entire game. The only difference is that when you try to romance her, she gets aggressive and shows you her bra. Whoopty-freaking-doo.

01

Finishing off this week is the rescued girl who apparently at a very young age is already more than happy to walk around in a garter belt, from School-Live!, it’s Miki Naoki.

Before being found by the girls, Miki shows that she is a very strong young girl, even after her best friend left their isolated room and never came back. She did eventually break down at times and really become an emotional wreck, but even then she was able to convince herself to stay where she was, not even just because it was safe, but because she had more than enough supplies to survive for a long period of time. It shows that even in dire straits, she’s still very intelligent and has the correct set of instincts.

Upon being found by the girls, Miki once again shows her strength and survival instincts when she watches Yuki going through her delusions. While she is a bit too harsh on the other two girls for letting Yuki be the psychological mindfuck she was, Miki is clearly trying to protect herself and those around her, because she knows that Yuki poses a risk to their safety. Over time, she comes to accept what’s going on, but still is very much staying aware of what’s going on.

Outside of the story, Miki’s personality is very typical for a young Japanese girl. She’s very polite, serious, a little mature and yet still very girly as well. Over the series, she becomes a major support to the other girls and her self-confidence raises throughout the show, far more comfortable in her abilities and herself overall.

Alrighty, here’s my call on Miki:

♥ WAIFU ♥

I didn’t know going in what I was going to pick with Miki. In fact other than one of the girls in the entire show, I don’t know what I’d do with any of them from the top of my head. But after writing this out, the more I think about it, the more I’m almost positive that this girl, especially after she grows up will become one hell of a phenomenal woman. She’s already an extremely strong and intelligent girl at her young age now, who knows what she’ll pick up in let’s say another 10 years? She has the kind, polite and caring attitude to be that “perfect waifu”, but at the same time has that vulnerable, adorable, girly side of her that offsets the seriousness and over-politeness and gives her a quirky side as well. I’d just want her to knock it off with the garter belts, I really don’t understand what’s so attractive about them…

It’s week #25 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

01

Kicking off this week is everyone’s favourite eyepatch-wearing umbrella wielding chuunibyo. From Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, it’s Rikka Takanashi!

Obviously known in the show for having a serious case of “chuunibyo”, which is also known as “Eighth-Grader Syndrome”, where the person still believes they’re a fantasy character from a game or anime or sometimes completely in their own world. When she first meets with the MC, Yuuta, she’s beyond lost at this point, talking in epic anime exposition, excessive hand gestures, all that jazz. Though when he ends up getting involved in her life, there are points she sort of breaks character (usually when he pulls on her eyepatch or something to that extent) and sounds a lot cuter than she already is.

In reality, there’s a lot more going on with Rikka than just a desire to stay a kid. Without spoiling anything, there’s a much deeper reason for her chuunibyo personality than just wanting to be a kid. And when that very hidden and suppressed side comes out, she’s almost like a different person, perhaps a young adult who’s trying to overcome hardships. Interestingly enough, we have an early idea of how Rikka is in relationships as she has one with Yuuta in the second season. She’s splits her chuunibyo personality 50/50 in this relationship, often falling out of character in certain moments, other times mixing in that other side of her with her relationship, like for example calling their relationship a contract, like they’re two characters bonded together through magical means.

Outside of that, Rikka is a constant source of energy, her over-the-top actions become infectious as the anime moves forward. She still retains some typical things a young teenager would have, she’s picky with certain foods, tries to avoid certain things and is a little intimidated by her elders, or in this case her older sister who’s happy to whack her over the head with a ladle when she gets out of line. She can be reserved at times and will often hold her cards very close to her chest, but over time once she trusts you (which in the anime is only five people, the same five numbers she has saved in her phone), she’ll slowly bring down the many barriers she has and that beautiful side of her will reveal itself.

So with that being said, here’s my easy call on Rikka:

♥ WAIFU ♥

It didn’t take long for me while watching the anime to have Rikka in this category. Obviously her age in the anime about half mine today, her current state (like most girls on these posts) is far too young for me, but imagining Rikka in her 20s, having grown up a little more, I can see that once the chuunibyo side of her is gone, at least in terms of public display, she’ll be a far more mature young woman, yet will continue to retain that cute, charming, bubbly personality she already has. And come on, you know she’s staying a cute, short girl and I’m a giant sucker for that!

01

Second up is the female-attracting magnet of Anne Happy, it’s Ren Ekoda!

Now because of her “rare condition” that attracts all females (including animals) to her, you wonder if the anime is implying that Ren is only available to women. There’s no clear-cut answer to that question, so for this we’ll assume at the very least that Ren is bisexual, open to both men and women, her condition just makes it that females cling to her like there’s no tomorrow.

As a person, Ren is very quiet and reserved, the stoic girl of the five main girls on the show. She has a love for dressing up in costumes and is a heavy sleeper, often needing her best friend Hibiki to wake her up, as she’ll sleep in otherwise. In the early morning, she’s barely functional, like she got zero sleep all night. In terms of her personal life, Ren is the kind of girl that’s almost like a white knight to her friends. She’s always there to help them whenever she’s needed and is very blunt when speaking to her friends about important things, she’s not one to sugarcoat things.

There isn’t a whole lot else to say about Ren, so I’ll just get to my decision:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

I really, REALLY like Ren, but the problem is that with her personality, I’m unsure if a long-term relationship is the way to go. I tend to gravitate towards more upbeat and bubbly personalities and while Ren is a very caring girl, a very nice girl and like to be super attractive when she’s older, I don’t see her as a wife-level person for me. I certainly don’t hate her, so the lower tier isn’t an option either, so the middle-tier it is. Makes you wonder though…if we were ever in her bed at night and her condition caused another woman to enter the room, what happens then?

01

Finishing off this week’s show, is the blue-haired ninja who apparently has no problem leaping out of her window in an open robe and a fundoshi. From Demon King Daimao, it’s Junko Hattori!

From a long line of ninjas in the Hattori clan, Junko starts off as your typical courteous girl who is nice to everyone and has an extremely strong sense for justice. When she first meets the MC, Akuto, she comes off like your normal high school girl, misinterpreting something and beating the shit out of him because of it. Out of any character I have ever seen in anime, no one misinterprets situations at the level of Junko. No matter how good the deed he tries to make, being labelled the next Demon King by the Harry Potter-esque career hat has her constantly trying to kill him or at the very least keep an eye on him so he doesn’t accomplish any evil deeds, deeds he never actually tries to even start.

Outside of her insanity, Junko’s actually a really sweet girl, one who really does just want to be your average nice girl, it’s her desire to save the world that really clouds her judgment at times. When not directly involved with Akuto, around other girls she’s very calm and sweet, sometimes really opening up and showing a much more fun-loving side to her. But then again, there are times where an android suddenly pulls down her swimsuit, revealing her breasts, and then there are times where a red-haired girl jacks off a sea cucumber and it spurts white stuff all over her like it’s a euphemism for something. Oh those two things are in the same episode too, by the way.

Anyways, here’s my call on Junko:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

Much like Ren, I really do like Junko, but there are things about her that make me a little hesitant putting her in the top-tier. Most importantly, her tendency to over-analyze situations and misinterpret them really affect my judgment on her. How do I know she won’t do these kinds of things if she comes home and I have company over and it happens to just be another girl? Things could go sour real fast. But I don’t have enough reason to not want her as a friend either. After all, I’m not the future Demon King, I’m sure I’ll get just a little more rope than Akuto does in the anime.

It’s week #40 of Waifu, Friend With Benefits or One-Night Stand!

01

Kicking off this week’s show is the self-proclaimed 16 year-old girl who is totally without a family to go home to. From Working!!, it’s Aoi Yamada.

Aoi is a very special case on the show, she’s a runaway who somehow convinced a restaurant manager that she was homeless and was allowed to stay in the attic of the restaurant. As a way to pay “rent” for living in the attic, she becomes a part of the waitress staff at the restaurant and immediately proceeds to throw everything out of wack from there on out. As a waitress, there is quite possibly no one clumsier than Aoi, she constantly breaks dishes and glasses and on top of that, she steals food both after everyone’s gone and even during her shifts.

In terms of her personality, we’re to assume she’s a spoiled girl with a bit of an airhead side to her. She plays the innocence game to try and gain sympathy, but also has a trickster side of her. The airhead part of her comes out in the early-going especially when she’s not quite nailed down her new identity when she’s at the restaurant, as she doesn’t respond to her “real name”. She’s not the brightest girl either, so couple that with her airhead side and you have a girl that’s very naive and really doesn’t have a firm grasp of anything that went on outside of her house that she ran away from. Lastly, she’s very clingy to people she takes a liking to. Over the course of the series she takes three people at the restaurant and tries to label them as her real father, mother and brother and spends all her time with them, at least until someone rips her away and tries to get her to get back to work.

So after reading this, I’m sure you’ve figured out my decision on Aoi:

♠ ONE-NIGHT STAND ♠

I liked Aoi when I was watching the show, I thought she was the cutest thing, I just wanted to give her a big hug. Upon reflection however, she has such a terrible personality and is such a pain in the ass that there’s just no way I’d want to spend any amount of time with her if I had the option to choose. She’s clearly got some issues whether it’s something that needs legitimate help or not, she’s very unintelligent and as you all know, I kinda lean towards smarter girls. But the biggest of all, I AIN’T LETTING THIS GIRL NEAR MY STUFF!!! I like my shit intact!

01

Second up is the student council president that has no problem putting on a sexy outfit two sizes too small. From Infinite Stratos, it’s Tatenashi Sarashiki.

The most notable personality trait of Tatenashi is clearly with how she interacts with Ichika on a consistent basis. It’s very clear that Tatenashi is aware that she has one of the best bodies out of all the girls at the IS Academy and has a high self-confidence in her body. It could just be because he’s the only guy in the entire school (and he’s so hot every girl in the school wants him all night long), but when it came to Ichika, whether she had feelings for him or not, she proceeds to tease him as much as she possibly can, whether it’s being half-naked around him, or even asking him to undress her. While it’s shown that she’s never actually had a relationship and can get a little flustered and nervous around Ichika, especially once she truly discovers she has feelings for him, it’s pretty apparent that if Tatenashi finds someone she likes, she’s more than comfortable enough in herself and her body to show it off…and then some.

When it comes to Tatenashi after putting her overly sexual personality aside, she’s still a very well-respected, charismatic leader. As the student council president, she’s values perfectionism and strong leadership and is a girl very well-renowned amongst her peers. She still retains her playful side when she’s serious however, so for some it’s hard to tell just how serious she’s taking things. Lastly, we see through her relationship with her sister than she really cares deeply for those very close to her, though in Kanzashi’s case because of their rivalry, Tatenashi tends to be a little more insecure when it comes to her relationship with her sister.

So, here’s my call on Tatenashi:

♦ FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS ♦

With her playful, sexual personality a major part of her, I find it really hard to put her at the top tier, just because I believe it would be really hard to nail down where the “real” Tatenashi lies and where the part of her personality that’s turned up to 11 lies over top. So while it’s hard for me to think that Tatenashi could be the kind of girl I could live with for the rest of my life, I think it’s possible she could be that girl, I just don’t have enough evidence to tell myself that’s true. However, she’s still a very fun girl, seems like the kind of person I’d enjoy chilling at a bar with, watching a movie with, y’know a good friend. A good friend that might try to put on a skimpy catgirl swimsuit costume and pounce on me (not that I’d mind if I were single…), but a good friend nonetheless!

01

Finishing off this week’s show, we’ve got the Yahama-loving member of the bike club from Bakuon!!, Onsa Amano.

There’s no Wiki page on her to help me fully remember her personality, so I’ll be going off this from memory, not that it’s too difficult to remember the main part’s of Onsa’s personality. Onsa is a very wild tomboy, easily the most charismatic member of the Bike Club and out of all of them, she was easily my favourite (though Raimu’s amazing too) on the show. When it comes to bikes, as the daughter of a mechanic she’s second to none when it comes to her love for motorcycles, constantly talking about the many little details about so many bikes.

When it comes to a more personal basis, Onsa does have a much more innocent and reserved side to her. We see in the episode where all the girls have swimsuits on, she was easily the most conservative with her swimsuits (Raimu doesn’t count, we already don’t see her face, of course she’s not wearing a skimpy bikini either). I don’t recall how she was during the iconic bath scene where we see Rin’s “butt brand”, but when she’s stripped of her shirt by I believe it was their teacher/club advisor, she certainly drops her entire charismatic personality for a more nervous, shy part of her. Granted, her shirt did get taken off without permission…

Anyways, here’s my call on Onsa:

♥ WAIFU ♥

Admittedly, there’s a little bias in this decision, but it’s about my future wife, I’m allowed to be! Onsa immediately grabbed my attention from Episode 1 on the show, she looked so different to your average anime teenage girl, her hair was unique, her skin was a little more tanned (and when it comes to anime, I’m a sucker for tanned girls) and as I’ve said so many times now on this page, let alone just this series of posts, tomboys in anime are almost guaranteed to land in the top tier with me. She’s such a wonderful personality, one I could talk about anything with and not have to worry about saying something that will shut her off. And she’s a hidden beauty, as most anime tomboys are. You never expect them to be super hot, but cue the swimsuit episode and holy shit! It’s a no-doubter for me than Onsa’s in the top tier.

So that’s this week’s edition of Waifu, FWB, or One-Night Stand, hope you enjoyed it! Leave any comments you’ve got below, whether it’s your own choices between the three or maybe I’m missing something that could’ve turned the tide on my decision with any one of these girls.
