Blogging 101, Day Four: Identify Your Audience‏

01

So this’ll be a fun article to write. Today’s assignment is simple: Publish a post you’d like your ideal audience member to read, and include a new-to-you element in it.

Now as for the new-to-you element, I’ve pretty much posted everything I’d actually post in an article here, whether images, videos, etc. so in terms of that half of the assignment, I’m fresh out of ideas. I could embed a Tweet, but I’d only do that if it was pertinent to the article. I’d embed a Pinterest element, but that site can suck it for all I care! So yeah, in terms of elements, nothing out of the ordinary here. However, if I’m to write an article for my ideal audience member, there’s really only one thing I can think of that defines the type of readers I’m looking to attract.

And I anticipate a few people who read this and don’t fall into that demographic might be a tad bit offended or weirded out, because the subject is question is…

Mai from Myriad Colors Phantom World

Boobs! Specifically the stupidly large breasts that a ton of anime characters have.

Now this is a personal preference, so I have no problems with those who enjoy breasts that fall into a size D or bigger. But honestly, when it comes to bust sizes, I can’t get myself too into the idea of breasts that large. I’ve always had a preference for Cs and under, two of my three girlfriends in life have been smaller than Bs, my current girlfriend is pretty much flat-chested. For me personally and again this will weird some people out, I prefer a bust size that I can cup with my entire hand, rather than only grabbing a percentage. I’m also far more into butts than boobs anyways, so there’s the perverted reasons out of the way.

In terms of the way they’re used, particularly in anime since that’s the topic at hand here, generally speaking the characters who have the largest breasts seem to have the least amount of personality and/or intelligence. Whether the gigantic breasted woman is either dumb as a rock, or as upbeat as a slow dance track, the majority of anime girls that fall into this group are completely uninteresting to me. Characters like Mai (pictured above) and Hestia from Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up A Girl In A Dungeon come to mind. They’re designed to be eye candy and generally speaking they’re either boring as hell or annoying as fuck.

And then there’s the extreme cases of oversized breasts.

Cattleya from Queen's Blade

Cases like Cattleya and Shizuka from Highschool of the Dead are cases where their breast sizes are just way too large. It’s to the point that they’re literally put on camera for the most part for jiggle scenes where the slightest movement triggers a ripple effect causing a multi-second jiggle fest intended solely for the viewers. Sometimes it’s even used as comedy, in the case of Shizuka pretty much using Alice as a placeholder for her breasts, as seen here.

Now this is not meant to shame or even worse, slut shame girls who do have large breasts in real life. My real problem with anime girls who are given the giant rack treatment are generally written to be just that, a giant pair of tits bouncing around for the viewers’ enjoyment. I wouldn’t have cared less how big Shizuka’s breasts were if she was a smart, strong woman capable of handling herself during the zombie apocalypse. But because she was a mostly dunce cap toting woman who somehow has medical skills, she falls into the category of pure eye candy and while I like watching sexy anime girls as much as the next guy, the ones who have staying power are sexy AND interesting.

Here’s two examples from this current anime season that fall into the category of girls with larger breasts that are still interesting. Irisdina from Schwarzesmarken has an unmistakably large bust, but unless you are a complete pervert, you don’t really notice the majority of the anime. She’s a goddamn badass woman who commands an task force of pilot mechs in a war against an alien race in the BETA. There are moments that draw slight attention to her chest, but as soon as she’s back to her commanding officer status, there’s no big-breasted bombshell moniker attached to her. Misaki is far different, but still accomplishes to draw attention to her character, rather than her bust, which is an accomplishment in itself considering the anime she’s in is far more ecchi than Schwarzesmarken. She has a very unique personality, super sleepy in the morning, super energized in the afternoon. She likes to add cat-puns in her words, often ending sentences with a ‘Nyah’ in there. And again, even though she’s been seen naked before in the anime she’s from, you still don’t immediately put her in the eye candy group, as again she’s unique, but also holds her own in the anime’s central plot, the Flying Circus sport that’s played. So far she’s handily beaten her competition, so she’s not just the sexy one that’s just there to distract people or take the losses.

Honestly, I don’t have a huge problem (pun intended) with big breasted anime girls, just when they’re written poorly. I’ve said it before, you can make a girl in an anime or a video game as sexy as you want, but if you give her zero personality and essentially turn her into eye candy, you’ve failed to make her anything except a sex doll. There a ton of great large-chested girls in anime, such as Seras Victoria from Hellsing and Saya Takagi from Highschool of the Dead. They have a personality and there’s something about them that’s interesting beyond more than just their bodies. And the same goes for real life, I couldn’t care less how big a girl’s bust is, so long as she’s cool to hang around. I don’t think I’d be interested in a relationship because of my preferences however, but I can always make more friends, y’know?

But if you’re just defined by your body and nothing else, you’re not interesting to me and the same goes for fictional characters. If she’s just tits and ass, that’s all I’ll remember her for, tits and ass. The girls sitting at the top of my all-time list aren’t even close to being the hottest girls I’ve seen in anime, but they’re damn sure the most interesting. Why? Cause their character is more than just jumping up and down.

Sometimes they jump side to side too.

Blogging 101, Day Three: Say Hello to the Neighbors‏

01

This will definitely be a very quick post. Today’s assignment was essentially to follow five tags and five blogs, which I’ve done. The other part in the assignment that’s purely optional was to make a post about what specific post lead me to making the blog page itself.

It’s nothing special, but when Seth Rollins got seriously injured, I was pissed off at WWE (I’m a giant pro wrestling fan) for not taking the time to create new stars. It was basically Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and John Cena. When WWE was at its best you had Stone Cold, The Rock, The Undertaker, Chris Jericho, D-Generation X (including Triple H), Kurt Angle, The Hardys, Dudleyz, Edge & Christian, Big Show, Kane, Mick Foley, all these guys that the fans loved and were super over. What did the WWE have after Rollins was injured? Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose…uh…Sheamus? So that realization royally pissed me off and thus I wanted to write about it.

Now I already had a Blogspot account that I had put up a few things on, but they were so sporadic. I wanted to create a new page with the intent on being a little more consistent, so the Radical Rants page was born.

That’s really it, nothing too special, I just wanted to bitch about something and decided to make a new page to do it. Sometimes all you need is that, no crazy long story to go with it.

Blogging 101, Day Two: Take Control of Your Title and Tagline‏

01

This will be a quick post today. Essentially today’s assignment was giving the blog page a title and tagline. Well I already have a title, so I added a tagline to it. “Defending Sexy Shit Since 2015”. Makes sense, don’t it? ^_^

So instead of just leaving it at that, I thought I’d give you all a background on my online persona and the title of the page, since they coincide. The blog page is entitled “Radical Rants” and I am known online as “CSRadical”.

To get to CSRadical, there has been a pretty long journey over the years of online gaming. The first time the Radical persona became something was probably…almost 15 years ago when I was in high school. I played a lot of Counter-Strike: Source back then and that’s when I first used Radical in my names. Originally it was simply “Radical Dreamer”, which if you are a fan of the Chrono series of JRPGs, you’ll know that name. I kept that name for a long time until I got an Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. By that point I had also been subjected to the Shin Megami Tensei series, in particular the Persona series, which I won’t shut up about nowadays (imagine how I’ll be when the 5th game comes out hopefully this year *crosses fingers*), so my first gamertag on Xbox Live was “radicalpersona”, a grouping of the two. After a while, I ended up joining a clan while playing the NHL series a lot and adopted the clan tan onto my gamertag. However I thought keeping the full name would make it too long, so I decided to drop the Persona and make the gamertag “TG Radical”.

Finally, we get to our resting place with “CSRadical”. After leaving the TG clan I was in, I decided to create my own gaming community as a place simply for people to have fun playing games together, rather than being super serious. The “CS” stands for Critical Strike, there’s really no significance to it, it was just a name that when I Google searched it, I wasn’t seeing any immediate results for other clans using that name. When the clan disbanded about 3 years later, you’d think I would’ve dropped the “CS”, but by this point in time I had become a huge professional wrestling fan again. The reason for that? CM Punk. So with him being my favourite wrestler at the time, the name “CSRadical” came off very well the same way his name does. So I kept it and it’s been the same till now. The “Radical Rants” has been a title I’ve used through YouTube and other blog attempts before, just rolled off the tongue well.

So there you have it, a little background on my name. Thanks for reading!

Blogging 101, Day One: Introduce Yourself to the World‏

01

So when I first started the page here on WordPress, I signed up for a program within the site called “Blogging 101”. I didn’t anticipate anything coming of it, but today I got the e-mail letting me know I was going to be a part of this program. So even though I’ve got about three months under my belt now, I thought it’d be a fun challenge to go through this regardless, perhaps I’ll still learn a lot along the way!

So the main thing for this program is that I get a daily assignment that I have to post on my page. Today is Day One, so naturally it’s an introduction post. However, obviously I’ve already been on here for a little while now and have cemented a consistent lineup of articles. So how shall I go about this? I’ll still give a little bit about myself, but I’ll also revisit how things have changed since I started posting in November.

So for those new to the page here, greetings and salutations! My name is Adam, I am Canadian (sorry, no igloo here) and I’m in my late twenties. As you can see from the articles I’ve been posting, I’m a perverted fan of video games, anime, professional wrestling, a few sports here and there, various weird genres of music, anything leaning more towards the nerdy side is a safe bet (other than books, I can’t be bothered to read a novel anymore). Why the strikethrough on ‘perverted’, you may ask? Well the majority of my articles have been an active battle against the censorship of sexual content in gaming and media and instead of spending every article bashing feminists and SJWs, I only divert a quarter of my articles to that and spend the other 75% pissing them off further by posting about how sexy a ton of female characters are. I’m still shocked no one’s given me hell for these posts yet, so far the comments have been all positive.

Originally, I was just going to post whatever was on my mind at the time, but keeping it PG. The first few articles I wrote were mostly serious, just giving my thoughts on various things. But then one weekend I decided to just take the chains off and allow myself to write freely and the first post reflecting this was my Top 10 Video Game Girls I’d Sleep With article. Now I was just going to leave that be, but I got a little self-conscious about it and the next day I posted a response to that article basically defending our innate desires to fantasize, especially of a sexual nature. During the writing of that article, I figured out real quick where my heart was, it’s been an issue I’ve had a lot of problems with in terms of how journalists deal with it and how society overall deals with it. So that’s been my fight and this page has large in part been my outlet for it.

I wasn’t anticipating much of a reaction to this page, to be honest. I’m very late to the blogging game and there’s tons of people talking about video games and anime. But being “internet famous” has never been the end goal, I just enjoy throwing my opinions out there and listening or debating about the topic with other people out there. If that means connecting with eventual fans or other bloggers, that’s a bonus for me. When the page started up in November, the numbers were where I expected them, extremely low. But then December more than doubled the monthly views…and then January continued to double the views. And then on the first day of February, not only did I break my daily record, I nearly tripled it! Now granted, the rest of the days have gone back to normal, but when you see that you have the capability of posting something that actually gains a modest level of attention, that really drives you!

Now my goals have changed slightly, they used to be quite small. I now want to get to a point where monthly I’m reaching 1000 views or more and this month could be the first one to do so. I’ve already succeeded in having a number of weekly articles to keep me busy, now it’s a matter of trying to fill those empty days in. I don’t know if my goal is to have a post every day because I don’t want to post something half-heartedly just to fill a space, but if it’s possible, I’d love to achieve that.

So, there’s my little (though nearly 1000 words) bit on myself and the blog page. I don’t know how long the Blogging 101 thing is going to go on for, but the goal is to get through it entirely. Worst case scenario, it’s extra content and it might offer a few interesting posts that I wouldn’t have thought to write before.

And now I shall return to my basement cave to chug a ton of soda while staring at my various collections of sexy figurines, bikini girl posters and body pillows. Guess which one of those five statements are actually true. *wink*
