Week # 3 – Fall Anime 2018

Week # 3 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Between the Sky and Sea (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

  • Pancakes are the way to the soul. Fact.
  • I don’t know if they’re intentionally trying to make me hate that one guy so much that I want to beat his face in with a frying pan…but it’s working.
  • I don’t like how they technically cheated/lucked into winning the challenge. They should’ve done what they were seemingly about to do, Haru using her silliness from earlier in the day as a way to distract and eventually catch the fish.
  • Ruby’s a terrible spy.

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: B- (70%)

Frankenstein Family (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

  • The show is getting more and more boring.
  • The “racism” angle they’re taking is kind of irritating. Perhaps it has more to do with how I look at this show as a comical, light-hearted slice of life and I wasn’t expecting this much drama.
  • The show’s gotta step it up. I’m not getting nearly enough from it. Considering I like the post-credits segment with the voice actors better than the show itself, that’s a real problem.

Interest – 2/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 1/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: F (45%) ***ON NOTICE***

Merc StoriA: The Apathetic Boy and the Girl in a Bottle (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • Gee this “male” mayor couldn’t totally be a girl with a voice like that. eh?
  • And this “male” mayor took offense to women being called weak?! What a strange coincidence!!
  • OHHHHHH?! THE “MALE” MAYOR TURNS TO BE A WOMAN?! NANI?!!!

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | Cuteness – 5/5

OVERALL SCORE: B (76%)

My Sister, My Writer (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • To have someone even more fucked in the head, with Mai…the show’s only gonna get crazier.
  • Suzuka’s trying really hard to be #1, but Reika, the editor…she’s not even trying and she’s winning handily.
  • Poor Suzuka. Because of Ahegao’s doujins, now there’s a ton of other things she wants to do with Yuu and can’t.

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 4/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | Ecchi – 4/5

OVERALL SCORE: A- (80%)

Radiant (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

  • Y’know, it took me until this episode to notice that Alma lost an arm.
  • The hatred against sorcerers story is getting tiresome, they need to lighten up a bit on that narrative.
  • I’m impressed how they put together a meaningful 3-episode intro before Seth leaves for his own journey. Seeing both Seth and Alma in tears as they parted actually A, made sense and B, was pulled off perfectly.

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 5/5 | Design – 5/5 | Comedy – 3/5 | Action – 3/5

OVERALL SCORE: A- (80%)

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

  • The idea of even Mai’s name being erased from his book in insane.
  • I’m admittedly really starting to like Rio.
  • I wonder if Mai took a chance having him remember one key piece of information on his midterm as a way to remember her, even when the syndrome takes effect after he falls asleep.
  • Poor bastard, goes from one rumour to a total embarrassing memory that everyone will remember.

Interest – 5/5 | Writing – 5/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | Mystery – 5/5

OVERALL SCORE: A+ (92%)

Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

  • I’m literally being battered with the confusion stick with all the sales rep talk.
  • *insert French joke about the guy being so scary, but every joke about the French is about them being cowards*
  • The over-the-top shitty English and now French is killing me.
  • I’ve gotta say, this episode wasn’t the greatest, but I’m getting the sense that this will be a show that won’t take too much of my time, gets its shit in, and will either be okay or absolutely hysterical. This week? Not the latter, unfortunately.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 3/5 | Design – 3/5 | Comedy – 3/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: C- (60%)

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

  • Just the idea of him healing all the goblins and spitting them out. So he healed them…but gave them all concussions. XD
  • Oh my god, that goblin girl is hot…I’ve almost forgotten about Goblin Slayer now.
  • I like how this show is running thus far. It’s very much like Log Horizon, in how they’re starting with basic essentials and working their way forward.
  • I also like how Rimuru isn’t even truly aware just how powerful he is.

Interest – 5/5 | Writing – 5/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | Action – 3/5

OVERALL SCORE: A- (84%)

Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight (Ep.3) *On Notice*

THOUGHTS

  • The reunion with Richemont was way too “OH HELLO THERE!!!”.
  • -1 point for almost-rape, because this show has to be edgy too!
  • I’m unbelievably disappointed with this show. The potential to be a really fun action-packed anime with sex appeal was an easy take for this show, given the cast of characters they have. But instead they fall victim of trying too hard to do two things at once. They want to be sexy and edgy. They don’t mix, folks. I don’t care what anyone says.
  • All they had to do was back off a bit on the “OMG, SO MUCH HORROR!!!” and this show would be fine. A great show? No, but passable for sure.

Interest – 2/5 | Writing – 1/5 | Design – 4/5 | Action – 3/5 | Ecchi – 3/5

UzaMaid! (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

  • Good lord she keeps finding ways to cross the line, eh?
  • Oh my god, the hamsters… ❤

Zombieland Saga (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

  • It’s been three episodes now. The format has not changed. The first 15 minutes suck and the last little bit is pretty fun.
  • Except this episode, the concert was plain, didn’t have any real funny moments and kind of just…was there.
  • If with each episode I feel more and more bored, what is really left? A bunch of cute girls? Any show can have that.

Interest – 1/5 | Writing – 1/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 2/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: F (35%) ***DROPPED***

Week # 2 – Fall Anime 2018

Week # 2 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Between the Sky and Sea (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • Haru is so fucking lazy…and yet I can’t stop loving her!
  • The sexist part of this storyline is extremely irritating. But it’s working, so they’re doing their job.
  • Sixth and final girl next week. It’s like I have this feeling she’ll be really good and help them nab these three tuna they need.

Interest – 5/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 3/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: B- (70%)

Conception (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • Okay…she reveals she’s pregnant and then they’re transported to another world. You’ve got minutes to save this absolutely random bullshit.
  • This is really…really cringy…
  • Blah blah blah, our world is in danger, we need you to save them, even though you have no fucking clue what’s going on. This is fucking stupid, I’m sorry but this kind of plot only works if I’m interested from the get-go, which I’m not, so…BYE-BYE!!!

DAKAICHI -I’m being harassed by the sexiest man of the year- (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • Sweet Jesus, they’re really trying to see how close they can get without actually showing anything, eh?
  • REALLY? THEY’RE GETTING COVERED IN HONEY?!!!
  • At this point, I have to declare this show too much for me. This has zero to do with it being yaoi, it has everything to do with how aggressive the show is with its romance. I’ve obviously never really looked into BL, so if this is what every manga, light novel and anime is in this genre, sweet fucking Jesus, they call us harem lovers perverts?!
  • I don’t actually hate this show. Truth be told, if not for the excessive over-the-top make-out sessions, I’d probably keep this show. There’s a real dynamic between the two guys that is hard not to like. But when a harem guy like me is even going “Wow, you’re overdoing it with sex.”, you’re pulling attention away from the rest of the show and it’s now become too much of a distraction.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 1/5 | Design – 2/5 | Comedy – 2/5 | Ecchi – 5/5

OVERALL SCORE: D- (52%) ***DROPPED***

Frankenstein Family (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • Every time Tanisu mentions he’s a normal human, I’m convinced there’s something even more unique about him that we’ve yet to see.
  • All five play off each other really well, though I will admit that I’d love to see a little more than just someone causing trouble and them collectively having to fix it. I really want to see more comedy with it.
  • Because of this, the show is waning. Not quite “On Notice” material yet, but it’s in danger of getting there.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 2/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: D (55%)

Jingai-san no Yome (Ep.2) *On Notice*

THOUGHTS

  • I still don’t know what the fuck I’m watching. This is beyond weird, not to mention it’s so short I don’t even have time to adjust to what’s going on before it’s over. Yep! Done!

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 1/5 | Design – 2/5 | TBD | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: F (46%) ***DROPPED***

Merc StoriA: The Apathetic Boy and the Girl in a Bottle (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • I…I CAN’T GET OVER HOW CUTE THIS GODDAMN SHOW IS!!!
  • “KYUUUUU!!! KYU KYU KYU KYU!!!” Yeah…I love that fluff ball.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 3/5 | Cuteness – 5/5

OVERALL SCORE: C+ (68%)

Ms. Vampire Who Lives In My Neighbourhood (Ep.2) *On Notice*

THOUGHTS

  • I absolutely zoned out during this episode. That’s a terrible sign. It’s kinda shocking actually, considering it’s a moe show and I’m usually good with that. But I think it’s trying too hard, honestly. That’s probably the best way I can explain why it’s bugging me.
  • Well…and Akari’s kind of annoying…

DID NOT FINISH – ***DROPPED***

My Sister, My Writer (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • Already folks! Haven’t started the show yet, who’s taking the over-under on this one being a massive ecchi incest anime?!
  • A minute in, I think I’m taking the over…
  • All right, we’ve got censor symbols! I’m winning for sure!
  • Also…THAT GIRL HE WORKS WITH IS WEARING A SKIRT SHORTER THAN HER PANTIES AT HER FUCKING JOB?!!!
  • Oh? He adores an author? It won’t totally turn out to be his little sister… *sarcasm*
  • Close, she’s a new up and comer writing imouto light novels. That was the other option.
  • So it’s A Sister’s All You Need, but she’s the massive pervert.

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 3/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 3/5 | Ecchi – 4/5

OVERALL SCORE: B- (72%)

Radiant (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • I’m blown away how interested I’m getting in this show. And even more interested in how the MC isn’t annoying me. In fact, I freaking love the guy!
  • It’s good that we have foils right off the bat for him and Alma to deal with, in the Bravery Quartet.
  • I wonder how they’ll explain how Seth can deflect that level of power. My crazy theory, is he’s somehow part Nemesis himself.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 4/5 | Design – 5/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | Action – 4/5

OVERALL SCORE: A- (80%)

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • The random girl at the park was hilarious, hope she’s a lot more integral later on.
  • It’s to the point now that Mai appears to be completely invisible, even her mother no longer knows who she is.
  • Now it’s even weirder that people at school still remember who she is. Makes it perfectly obvious that Rio is on the money with the school be the central cause of things. But the real question is what and why?

Interest – 5/5 | Writing – 5/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 3/5 | Mystery – 5/5

OVERALL SCORE: A (88%)

Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • I really like this anime. It’s half the length, moves fast, gives me a little insight on something I know almost nothing about and it’s not insulting my intelligence either.
  • Now with a little more structure, especially in knowing where every character works within the bookstore, everything makes a little more sense.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 5/5 | Design – 3/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: B (75%)

Space Battleship TIRAMISU Zwei (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • Yeah…there’s just no reaction from me now. Ah well, it was worth a shot.

Interest – 1/5 | Writing – 3/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 2/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: D- (50%) ***DROPPED***

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • My thoughts are that the black-haired girl in the picture is actually Veldora, so I’m waiting for that moment.
  • It’s nice to see goblins and not have the desire to throw up…
  • I’m still a little put off that we haven’t really met that many people yet after two episodes. It’s not a big deal, but given all the faces we see on the image above, you’d think we’d have seen one of them by now.

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 4/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | Action – 3/5

OVERALL SCORE: B (76%)

Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • Okay, really? Is the milk cow nickname necessary? I really like this girl’s look, why you gotta ruin it?
  • I really, REALLY want to drop this show just because they slaughtered all those fairies and showed the blood. It’s Episode fucking 2, why are you trying way too hard to be a little edgy?
  • Really good action towards the end, loved crazy Jeanne.
  • I’m putting the show on notice, even though I really enjoyed the action in the second half. In my opinion, you cannot have a show where you give a female character a terrible nickname like “milk cow” because she has large breasts and then minutes later show 2 fairies dead in little pools of blood following that. That’s fucking ridiculous. You don’t violently kill moe.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 1/5 | Design – 4/5 | Action – 4/5 | Ecchi – 4/5

OVERALL SCORE: C (64%) ***ON NOTICE***

UzaMaid! (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • Same as last week, didn’t take my eyes off the show once.
  • The ferret posing for the camera was freaking hysterical.
  • OMG how do you not want to hug Misha when she’s in those PJs?

Interest – 5/5 | Writing – 5/5 | Design – 5/5 | Comedy – 5/5 | TBD |

OVERALL SCORE: A+ (100%)

Zombieland Saga (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

  • At this point, I really REALLY like Saki and that’s it. The others right now are not really fleshing out. Pun intended.
  • The comedy is there for sure, but it’s coming at the very end with these concerts. The journey to the concert both episodes thus far has been boring and nonsensical. This time around, it’s not hiding as easily.
  • I still enjoyed the rap battle between the two, but the 15 minutes before it just weren’t great.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | TBD

Week # 1 – Fall Anime 2018

Week # 1 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

NOTE: There’s a new format coming with the weeklies this season. For a little more information and reasoning behind this change, you can check out my post from Friday here.

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Between the Sky and Sea (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • The concept itself sounds like the dumbest thing ever. No more fish on Earth so now they have space fish tanks. And when they allow women the right to space fish too, the first six are all moe teenagers. This show is either going to be amazing or absolute garbage.
  • The other odd thing I’m noticing is that even though they have more rockets than ever it would seem and they have fucking fish tanks in space, technology doesn’t look any different.
  • I’m hoping this show doesn’t suck now, only because I’m already falling for Makoto.
  • It’s a little dumb seeing the inherent sexism against women in this venture. I mean we know it’s not in the past, so this kind of crap isn’t really believable.
  • The show’s humour and light-heartedness is infectious but man oh man are the over complicating things with the ships, rocket pods, God app and all this other stuff.
  • As annoying as Haru can be, she can also be extremely hilarious too.

Interest – 5/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 3/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: B- (70%)

DAKAICHI -I’m being harassed by the sexiest man of the year- (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • This is really the first heavily blatant yaoi anime I’ve ever watched. And admittedly it’s a little uncomfortable. Not because it’s yaoi, but because it’s very much the same level of discomfort I got from Citrus. It’s the initial psuedo-rape that really set me off and continues to do so as the show basically goes from 1 to 10,000 in an instant.
  • It’s also the idea that we have no knowledge of what Takato’s sexual interests are, as he fully admits that Junta stole his first kiss (HOW IS THAT HIS FIRST THOUGH?!!!), thus there’s no history of his sexuality. So for him to go from nothing to letting a guy presumably fuck him is insanely fast!
  • Aside from that though, the show has a certain charm to it. The two work well together and it’s sort of an interest dynamic between the two battling it out to be on top, which if Junta wins means he’ll get to be on top in another way, but y’know…
  • However, because of the discomfort, I’m doing the same thing I did after episode 1 of Citrus, I’m putting it on notice. And it’s almost a mirror image, as I actually liked the main character of that show, much how I like Takato as one of two leads.
  • It’s also REALLY bothering me how they have the neck drawn with lines along it. That requires docked points.

Interest – 3/5 | Writing – 3/5 | Design – 2/5 | Comedy – 3/5 | Ecchi – HOLY SHIT!!!(5)/5

OVERALL SCORE: C (64%)

Frankenstein Family (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • NOTE: This show appears to have already aired and Crunchyroll is just putting it up. As of right now they have 10/12 episodes up. Because this just randomly appeared, I thought it’d be a show to add to the weeklies anyway. So I’ll watch one episode per week.
  • There’s a massive slice of life vibe to this show, though it also comes with the dysfunctional family trope AND also has no parents to be found. So there’s also that struggle that at times during the episode I wasn’t enjoying too much.
  • Snow looks like a more adult Hope from Final Fantasy XIII. That’s VERY ironic.
  • Ashise is an over-exaggeration of how my girlfriend loves the little things. She totally agrees.

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 2/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 2/5 | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: C- (60%)

Goblin Slayer (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • I’ve heard stories before watching this episode of how things really start here. I’m worried that it ain’t going to be pretty…
  • Well that didn’t take long. So they aren’t skipping out on the violence. This is already really uncomfortable for me.
  • NOPE! Rape angle, I’m out! I’ve watched Grimgar and it’s grim, this is downright brutal for the sake of being edgy. Fuck right off!
  • NOTE: Because of this show and the reactions I’m reading online, this is something I’m going to have to address, either in a video or a blog post. Haven’t decided yet. But stay tuned!

DID NOT FINISH – ***DROPPED***

Himote House (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • The animation is painful…
  • And I gave up after 3 minutes. My eyes hurt, the show is literally random as fuck and reminds me way too much of Tesagure, which is notoriously one of the few shows I ever rated a 1.

DID NOT FINISH – ***DROPPED***

Jingai-san no Yome (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • The hair and eyes of the main character hurt my eyes.
  • The OP for this anime is EXTREMELY catchy…
  • Wait…that was the episode?! I didn’t look to see that it was a 3-minute short. There was nothing there?!!!
  • I’m tempted to drop this show just on the basis that it literally gives you nothing as a first impression. But I’m so weirded out by what the show is (and the OP was really good), so I feel like I have to see one more episode, just for the sake of curiosity.

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 1/5 | Design – 2/5 | TBD | TBD

OVERALL SCORE: F (46%) ***ON NOTICE***

Ms. Vampire Who Lives In My Neighbourhood (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • Oh good, a supernatural loli yuri anime!
  • The longer this anime goes, the more I wonder where everyone’s parents are. They’re acting like these girls who look like they’re 12 are grown adults.
  • I’m waiting for the comedy to come. Beyond the moe, there honestly isn’t that much here.
  • This show is going to be passable by a lot of moe lovers here, but I don’t see much potential in this at all. Going to give it one more episode to see what it does now that they’ve established things, but I’m not expecting much. The girls are too young and it’s very creepy (not even counting Akari herself) how hard they’re playing the yuri angle with these girls.

Radiant (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • This show sounds cliche as fuck, so it needs to really do something cool in this first episode.
  • Well…the OP music is really good…
  • It’s actually pretty light-hearted and not insulting in the way it’s selling Seth as a character. He’s not your typical shounen character that I usually get immediately turned off by

Interest – 2/5 | Writing – 4/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | Action – 3/5

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • I’m identifying with Sakuta. He’s like the bitter part of me through high school, watching everyone act like their shit doesn’t stink, when in reality it smells worse than the sewage below.
  • It’s really strange how they’re having this other story of Mai being unable to be seen on certain days is VERY odd. I wonder if this will actually be explained?
  • This show as I watch further has great potential. The low-key nature of the show’s characters really make the show stand out.
  • So it would appear there’s definitely something paranormal going on with this show. Mai being invisible to people at times, both Sakuta and Kaede getting injuries from things they didn’t see. It’s very curious.
  • NOTE: For now, I’m using the ‘Mystery’ tag as one of the grades. This may not last, depending on how the show goes.

Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • This animation is very off-putting, but is less shit and more late-night Toonami
  • It’s weird as fuck…I can’t tell if I like it, or I don’t know what I’m watching.
  • Loved the School-Live! reference
  • The BL half of the episode seems like a nightmare…

Space Battleship TIRAMISU Zwei (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • Against my better judgment, I decided to take a peek at this show’s second season, despite it getting really bad towards the end. And honestly? This wasn’t that bad.
  • Subaru’s himself again, completely fucked in the head when not in his cockpit. Isuzu is about the same, unfortunately, still an annoying brat kind of guy.
  • Interested to see what their father is like, now that we’re starting to see him.

Interest – 2.5/5 | Writing – 3/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 3/5 | TBD

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • Y’know, other shows where the guy dies and ends up in the world, it’s unusual for the person to die a hero…well and also become a slime.
  • The 8-bit music in this show is making me so nostalgic and happy!
  • The absolute silliness of this show is as infectious as the show is confusing at this point.
  • Oh my fucking god, the dragon’s a tsundere!
  • I’m admittedly a little disappointed that this slime hasn’t met anyone human at this point.

Interest – 4/5 | Writing – 3/5 | Design – 4/5 | Comedy – 4/5 | TBD

Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • I like the vibes I get from the show. It’s funny, cute, serious, grim and everything in between.
  • OMG, the fairies!!!
  • I feel like they ran through a lot of the story way too fast…but if it means we get more time between Episodes 2 and 12, I’m all for it.
  • Um…how did he go seven years trying to make an elixir and not realizing it?

UzaMaid! (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • You know this show has my attention when I don’t type a thing until after it’s over.
  • Of course there’s a dead parent involved in this story.
  • Good lord the over-the-top pervertedness of Tsubame is amazing!
  • She and Misha are gelling so goddamn well. Gonna be real hard to keep these two from losing the Best Duo/Couple Award this year at this rate.

Interest – 5/5 | Writing – 5/5 | Design – 5/5 | Comedy – 5/5 | TBD | *-1 point for dead parents*

Xuan Yuan Sword Luminary (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • Right off the bat, I’m getting vibes of past action anime that I drop the first episode because it starts a major conflict without explaining anything to the audience.
  • I’m not understanding the flashbacks. They appear like they’re supposed to mean something, but I have zero information to go on.
  • All right, I’m done. I lost absolute focus when the girl just gets attacked by a “snake demon” that suddenly exists and she falls into a hole where she seems to gain some sort of power that summons something to fight the demon and…oh my god I’m so lost and uninterested.

DID NOT FINISH – ***DROPPED***

Zombieland Saga (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

  • Jesus H. Fucking Christ the intro! If this show ends up being terrible, I’m going to be so disappointed!
  • So all the girls are zombies? Got it.
  • And they’re going to be idols somehow? Okay.
  • THEY’RE BABYMETAL WITHOUT THE LYRICS?!!! I’m in!

Week # 12-13 – Summer Anime 2018

The final two weeks have arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. How well will all these shows end?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Cells at Work! (Ep.12)

THOUGHTS

So we’re basically in part one of two when it comes to a legitimate life-threatening injury. There isn’t much to speak of here, beyond the rookie that RBC is training (horribly). She’s all knowledge, but once this massive attack happens, she’s completely inexperienced to danger. This episode is only the set-up, so honestly there isn’t too much to talk about here beyond like I said, the rookie training. It’s hemorrhagic shock, which is basically the body going into shock when you lose over 20% of your blood, fluids, etc., so it’s basically potential death situation here. We’ll see how it gets solved in the final episode.

THE GOOD

  • Of course RBC can’t train anyone
  • Real dire straits here, shows you just how “dead” your body would look like when you’re near-death

THE BAD

  • There wasn’t anything particularly memorable in this episode

Episode Score: 3/5

Cells at Work! (Ep.13)

THOUGHTS

The body is saved thanks to blood transfusions bring new red blood cells back into the body and solving the problem. RBC’s training pays off, as she’s the one who keeps her cool even when the body is literally moments from death. Very much like that last episode though, this was just a little too serious for my liking, so it was tough to enjoy it in the same manner as other episodes.

But I’ve gotta say, this show at the end of the day, did a fantastic job at creating an environment where you can be entertained and yet learn so much about the realities that your body faces every day and just how bad the worst of the worst conditions can be for your body as well. They did a great job at showcasing that with this show and that absolutely needs to be applauded. Well done!

THE GOOD

  • RBC actually being useful somehow

THE BAD

  • The episode was just too serious for my taste, the comedy works better for me with this show

Episode Score: 3/5

Chio’s School Road (Ep.12)

THOUGHTS

Honestly? I don’t have much to say about this episode, it was really disappointing. The stuff with Andou’s sister was very boring and didn’t amount to anything and even the public flashing segment really didn’t offer much either, there just wasn’t any real good jokes in here. For a show that was really good the whole way through, they really saved their worst episode for last, I didn’t like anything I saw. But hey, at the very least I got some of my favourite stuff in this show. And I want a goddamn Bloody Butterfly anime.

THE GOOD

  • Honestly? Nothing

THE BAD

  • Both segments were very boring and had zero jokes
  • Not even a segment being devoted to Yuki wanted to be naked brought anything fun

Episode Score: 2/5

Harukana Receive (Ep.12)

THOUGHTS

They won. That’s absolute bullshit, I’m sorry but I don’t believe that at all. A pair who’ve played together for years and years lost to a girl who was “retired” for years and a girl who’s only played for less than a year. That’s absolutely ridiculous. I don’t care what the reasoning for the story they have, when you’re creating a sports anime, there has to be a little more realism to it.

As for the remainder of the episode, it was enjoyable as the five enjoyed celebrating the end of the tournament. There’s a set up for a second season with nationals (which I’m afraid they’ll also beat Ayasa and Narumi as well, which will also bother me), which is good but who knows how that’ll go with certain characters like the Thomas sisters getting less time, as you know that’d be the case, with more pairs entering the fray. Obviously I’ll watch if there’s a second season, but I’m VERY nervous about it.

THE GOOD

  • Good ending emotionally between Claire and Haruka specifically

THE BAD

  • I do not like the outcome, it’s not believable
  • The second season (if it happens) will likely mirror the same outcomes

Episode Score: 3/5

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Ep.12)

THOUGHTS

A ridiculous end to the show, which I absolutely wanted. He beat Krebskulm easily, used the enslavement collar to solve the problem of her reactivating again and basically saved the world, only to add Klem, Edelgard and Alicia into the harem in one fell swoop. Just throw Sylvie in there for good measure and we’re ready to go. I want a second season of this so badly, I loved this show and can see there being far more to this show, especially now that Edelgard and Klem are consistent members of the party. But given that Isekai wa Smartphone hasn’t gotten a second season, I’m willing to bet this is a show that’ll follow the same route of not getting one either.

THE GOOD

  • Fantastically absurd ending
  • The harem grows with Edelgard, Klem and Alicia officially being a part of it.

THE BAD

  • I’m sad this show likely won’t see a second season

Episode Score: 5/5

Island (Ep.12)

THOUGHTS

Time travel I feel will never be done well, especially in anime. So the gist of everything is that Setsuna and “Steampunk” Rinne are not from the future, as the machine they used is not a time machine, in fact it only stops time. Therefore, they’re from the past, a past where humans eventually reverted back to the stone age and began anew. The result is a very complicated and rushed explanation that really we could’ve spent another episode fleshing out, but we had to rush it so the two could kiss and get married for realsies. A 13th episode would’ve really benefited this show, as it could’ve been used to delve a little deeper as to why the human race keeps resetting, it would seem. Not only that, but you could use this question as a basis for another season, but judging by the writing of this show thus far, it would probably make even less sense.

I still enjoyed my time with this show, albeit there’s still so many things I don’t understand, nor have an answer to. There’s no explanation for the origins of the machines they used to travel into the future, there’s no explanation as to why these characters like Setsuna, Rinne, Karen, Sara, etc. are being repeated throughout history, it’s way to coincidental for them to not only carry the same name, but look so similar (other than present Sara being flat chested). There’s so much unanswered and while I’m happy seeing Setsuna and Rinne reunited, there’s still a sour taste in my mouth.

Also major question…what’s their daughter’s name now? Because having both of them called Rinne is going to be EXTREMELY complicated. That girl is going to hear their parents fucking one day…oh dear.

THE GOOD

  • A nice end with the two reuniting

THE BAD

  • Extremely complicated reasoning for everything, with almost no detailed explanation
  • Too many unanswered questions

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Overlord III (Ep.11)

THOUGHTS

Well, it would appear that Ains has no fucks left to give now. Anyone in his way will perish. It makes me worry further for characters like Brain, Gazef and Climb who all will either die this season, or certainly will in battle next season. You have to imagine at this point that this series is going to turn more into a “someone needs to stop Ains” arc, rather than what we’ve seen before. We’ve gone from a more comedic kind of show, to one that is much more unapologetically violent. And with Prince Barbro the first of many to come, we shall see how far down the rabbit hole this goes.

THE GOOD

  • We’re going to get a lot more badassery as this goes forth
  • Very adorable moment between Enri and Nphi

THE BAD

  • I’m not sure how I feel about the direction the show is taking

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Overlord III (Ep.12)

THOUGHTS

Death certainly came, didn’t it? No one major has died yet, but with Gazef ending the episode looking to duel Ains, you kinda know where it’s gonna go, eh? I wonder why Ains wanted Gazef to be a subordinate of his, especially when humans are the least useful it would appear out of all the races. Perhaps he wants the best human fighter he knows, in order to test just how far the human body can go in the world? Who knows, but it looks like Gazef’s going to be quite dead in the final episode of the season, so it won’t really matter. Perhaps Climb comes into play, perhaps Brain sacrifices himself at one point, who knows. Honestly, though? I’m not liking what I’ll be walking into when the final episode arrives.

THE GOOD

  • Honestly? There isn’t any real positives for me to point out here

THE BAD

  • I’m extremely worried about the direction this will go, in many ways
  • The episode as a whole wasn’t anything special, it was just a lot of people dying instantly

Episode Score: 2/5

Overlord III (Ep.13)

THOUGHTS

Three seasons and the show I went from being over the moon with, I’m now struggling to accept the clear change in direction that the show is taking. Perhaps I’ve grown too fond of the characters I grew to know in Season 1, making it difficult to see them as villains as the show has clearly progressed towards. There’s no doubt in my mind that this show aims to go the path of Ains becoming more and more of a true villain until he loses himself completely, therefore needing someone to kill him, whether it means kicking him out of the game or dying altogether.

This comes further upon the predication that Gazef Stronoff, a character we’ve grown to like since the very beginning, not only is he dead, but was killed without even a chance to fight. Ains with the cheap tactics of time magic and an instant death spell, he kills Gazef in the most cowardly way, in my opinion solidifying Ains as switching from an idiot NEET who doesn’t know how to be a villain, to a self-centered, egomaniac who is truly finding comfort in those villainous shoes he’s been wearing for some time now. I was disgusted yet again, in the same manner as I was when the foursome adventurer group was slaughtered so mercilessly.

So I’d love to say I’ve enjoyed this season, but I haven’t. And maybe that was the point of the writing this season.

THE GOOD

  • Brain could become a very important character

THE BAD

  • The absolute cowardice shown by Ains against Gazef was despicable
  • I’m unsure whether this season has been bad writing or intentional in trying to get me to hate Ains and company

Episode Score: 2.5/5

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Ep.11)

THOUGHTS

A decent episode. As to be expected, he dealt with the monster really quickly so we can go back to the ecchi-ridden goodness that was a mass hot springs scene and of course a hide under the futon scene that in this case, tripled down on the embarrassment. The second half was fun too, of course Sagiri being the one who got the love potion was obvious, so that made for some extra fun. I will admit though, I’m starting to dislike the whole “I’m not feminine” trope when it comes from arguably the hottest girl on the show. It just doesn’t work, y’know?

So with one episode left, it’s fair to say nothing bad will happen, right? Right?

THE GOOD

  • Hot springs mania!!!
  • Sagiri getting the love potion couldn’t have been more perfect

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Ep.12)

THOUGHTS

Why can’t shows end better in anime? The romantic couple ghosts segment was relatively boring, honestly. Having the bulk of the cast not around during this final episode really didn’t help either. The gist really is that both Kogarashi and Yuuna intend to stick together as long as possible, him not wanting Yuuna to become an evil spirit and will do everything in his power to prevent that.

So with the season ending like that, does that leave the door open for a second season? Of course it does. Will it get one? I really, REALLY hope so, but I’m not holding my breath with a show like this. I enjoyed every episode this season, to varying degrees of course, but this show certainly had its share of 5/5’s and probably more than any other show this season. Show of the season? We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?

THE GOOD

  • I mean, we got a lot of Oboro ecchi, especially her voice when getting oiled up, that was hot!
  • Pretty big door open for a second season

THE BAD

  • Ghost couple segment was very boring
  • Half the cast not being around for the finale was not great

Episode Score: 3/5

Week # 11 – Summer Anime 2018

Week # 11 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Cells at Work! (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

Any episode that ends up centering around the Macrophages is a great episode to me. When you add onto it with them looking absolutely ridiculous as Monocytes while wearing Hazmat gear, even better. Same ol’ shtick otherwise with the hijinks and antics the characters get into, plus a return from the yellow “female” antigen enemies we saw earlier in the season. It really does amaze me how this show is almost over and it’s still fun to watch, despite the formula being used over and over again. That’s a testament to how good the characters are, how good the voice acting is, all that jazz.

THE GOOD

  • Macrophages as Monocytes was a hilarious reveal

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Cells at Work! (Ep.11)

THOUGHTS

An episode on heat stroke and that might’ve been the most worrying episode we’ve had. What a great representation of how badly your body becomes once it’s dehydrating. It’s scary to think about, y’know? The episode as a whole was very good and honestly, I can’t much more than that, it was just really good at showing how dangerous heat stroke actually is.

I’m glad we’ve got one episode left to go, cause it’s very prevalent that I don’t have as much to talk about when it comes to this show. What can I say, RBC’s adorable, Platelets are the cutest thing ever, Macrophages are badass, y’know, the usual.

THE GOOD

  • Great representation of heat stroke

THE BAD

  • The show is becoming so same-y, I’m running out of things to say

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Chio’s School Road (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

That was a really fun episode. You got a lot more out of Momo and now with Chiharu (the little blonde girl being Andou’s sister, we’ve got even more potential for groupings for even more hijinks. Momo being a giant sweets lover really brings something fun out of her, now if only she’d do something with her hair to make her look less like a schoolboy. Andou and Chiharu on the other hand was fucking hilarious to watch together, those two are a great pair to work with Chio and Manana. A lot to love here.

THE GOOD

  • Momo actually being fun
  • Chiharu and Andou together are fantastic

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Chio’s School Road (Ep.11)

THOUGHTS

Another really fun episode, but I have to address the elephant in the room from this episode. Holy fucking shit did the show really sexualize the hell out of Chio! Y’know, for a show that tries to tell us over and over that she’s painfully average, bloody hell they made it real hard to convince me of that! But alas, all’s fine, cause the girl won 6 million dollars in her video game being an absolute troll and griefer! Good for her…not! In the other half, the whole “Do I smell?” situation with the girls was okay at best, until Yuki came in and shattered everything with her brutal honesty afterwards. Loved it. Not as amazing as last week’s episode, but still a very good one.

THE GOOD

  • Chio at her best while gaming
  • Yuki destroying Manana at the end

THE BAD

  • I hate trolls

Episode Score: 4/5

Harukana Receive (Ep.11)

THOUGHTS

So they’re going to sudden death in the final set. I’m actually a little irritated that they’re having the two actually take the Thomas sisters to the limit. This is what I tend not to like about sports anime, the rookie always seems to be able to overcome years of experience in the end and nine times out of ten that doesn’t happen, yet it happens nine times out of ten in anime. If the two actually pull off the win, while yes I’ve enjoyed the show, I won’t like the outcome. Haruka is channeling “Instant Learning”, where she’s never tried stuff before and pulls it off flawlessly, think AOKANA, how that fucking show ran with the idea that someone who’s never played the game before can be unbelievably good at it and beat the best with ease.

The anime has been very fun to watch, but for the love of god, can one sports anime I watch actually have the team that should win actually win for once?

THE GOOD

  • Back and forth match

THE BAD

  • I did end up skipping ahead a little bit, I can’t watch volleyball for a full 20 minutes
  • Potential result of the match may not be realistic

Episode Score: 2.5/5

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Ep.11)

THOUGHTS

Alicia betrayed then, unsurprisingly.

They killed Rem.

Krebskulm has been fully awakened.

…Well shit! I guess Diablo’s going to have to One Punch Man this shit one more time, eh? I’m not worried about Rem, honestly I’m not worried about anything. The show is what it is, everything(ish) will be fine by the end of next week’s episode, aka the finale. I imagine Klem will return to her biscuit loving self somehow and everything will be fine.

Except for Alicia, fuck her. She wasn’t good in her non-backstabbing state anyways.

THE GOOD

  • Time for the ultimate final battle! That will only take one episode…
  • Shocking they actually killed Rem

THE BAD

  • They can’t pull off a good villain here with Alicia, she’s just not cut out for it
  • The fact this whole final battle will be within at best, half an episode, ain’t that exciting

Episode Score: 3/5

Island (Ep.11)

THOUGHTS

I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!

Once the future became apparent in the past few episodes, things started to click. With time travel comes alternate realities, alternate versions of people, etc etc. So when that became a possibility, Kuon became a far more interesting person. By the end of last week’s episode, I had an idea of who Kuon was, but I had zero evidence to support it, it was just a feeling and I try not to just guess and throw shit at the wall, hoping something sticks. When I make a theory, there’s something supporting it. Kuon’s true identity being “steampunk” Rinne was just a gut feeling I had, given that Setsuna had traveled from the future, to the past, back to the future. If he can go between eras, so should someone else, and when Kuon is shrouded in so much mystery too, you have to wonder, right?

So Kuon is Rinne, which means Rinne gave birth to Rinne. Either my head is going to hurt like a motherfucker in this final episode, or who knows. Maybe Sara will see herself with giant boobs and get real sad. That’ll be funny.

THE GOOD

  • A lot of loose ends starting to tie up

THE BAD

  • Extremely rushed episode, you can tell this episode needed to be an episode earlier

Episode Score: 3/5

Overlord III (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

Death will be coming soon. I fully expect characters we’ve grown to like will be dead in the next few episodes. Gazef and Brain are two I think for sure will, Climb, I’m not so sure yet, as he’s chained to Renner. This is the true point where I’m now prepared to see just how violent and tyrannical Ains will become. I do not believe Brain or Gazef will die to anyone except him, so that will be the real test. And yes, I say that even with all the Death Knights he brought. I think they will be there solely to destroy the number of random soldiers.

So, we’ll see, won’t we?

THE GOOD

  • Intriguing setup for what will likely be a bloodbath

THE BAD

  • The need to prepare for a number of major characters dying in the remaining episodes

Episode Score: 3/5

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

Good lord that episode wasn’t relenting, eh? An endless supply of over-the-top ecchi moments that of course happen now that Chisaki spends a night at the inn. At least she understands what Kogarashi has to go through every day now. It’s kind of a new thing to me, a female character who’s part of the harem and actually sees with her own two eyes how Kogarashi isn’t a pervert, so much as the other women in the harem are beyond insane when it comes to putting him in very inappropriate situations. I like that she’s become a sort of “I like you because you actually have morals, after all.” girl in this harem, while the others continue to either trying to bone him every chance they get, or just have the amazing luck of constantly falling on him while half-naked.

THE GOOD

  • Unrelenting ecchi
  • Chisaki becoming more than just another girl in the harem
  • Oboro continues to be amazing at breaking the ice

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 5/5

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

A swimsuit episode. Need I say more? Sagiri being Sagiri is always fun, but having Urara with her really brings out the best in her (and apparently results in the two wearing skimpy swimsuits with lots of groping…) and made the first half really fun to watch. The second half, well…tentacle rape aside I like what Chisaki’s going for with the test of courage idea to try and get people to understand and believe that Kogarashi is indeed a spirit medium. However it backfires tremendously and now a real monster is involved and that’s our cliffhanger. Should be another one-punch finale, but who knows, we’ve got two episodes left, we’ll see what happens.

And since it’s a swimsuit episode, you know what that means! The winner is…honestly, no one. None of the girls really had a swimsuit on that brought the best out of them. I mean if you were to force me to pick someone, I mean…I guess Sagiri, but that’s more because of her body than the swimsuit. Hers is too plain, Chisaki and her friend’s choice were obnoxious and Urara’s honestly just didn’t gel with me either. Yuuna is also disqualified, because a plain pink frilly bikini is the most cliche and boring choice possible.

THE GOOD

  • Ecchi central with this swimsuit episode

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Week # 10 – Summer Anime 2018

NOTE: You’ll notice a few shows missing this week in Cells At Work, Chio’s School Road and Yuuna-san and the Haunted Hot Springs. This is due to a mixture of me being sick, being busy the entire weekend and for whatever reason Crunchyroll not working for me right now on Monday night as I’m typing this.

So what I’m going to do is on next week’s post, I will add in the three episodes missing along with the Week 11 stuff as well. Cheers folks!

Week # 10 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Angels of Death (Ep.10) *On Notice*

THOUGHTS

I put this show in danger of being dropped so close to the end. Why? Because it continues to deviate what made the show so interesting. Zack is a shell of what he was at the start, Rachel still isn’t explained to us and the story has just gotten to weird and hard to follow.

So…did the show managed to survive this week and allow it to be finished this season? The answer? No.

I cannot believe that at this point we still have zero information on what the world is, what these characters are, what Rachel is. I have suffered through episode after episode of droning on and on about god, faith, suffering, death, despair and all this other “Look, we’re creative!” kind of bullshit writing that is nothing more than holding back information so they can look clever after episodes full of symbolism and hidden clues than lead to a big reveal.

The better shows are the ones that make you create theories, ones that have concrete reasons to their creations. Nothing I have said through these 10 episodes ever had evidence behind it, it was all just throwing shit at the wall and hoping something stuck. Ten fucking episodes and I have nothing to show for it, I still have no clue what the fuck is going on, who anyone is, and why any of this even matters.

I really liked this show, I truly did. Zack was an interesting character, Rachel’s origins had intrigue, hell, characters like Danny and Eddie were interesting as well, but were killed off so early they had no chance to develop. We’re now at episode 10 of 16 apparently and I still have no information. That is an absolute slap in the face to the audience, you cannot have an anime that is just endless parades of symbolism and religious messaging and expect people to think it’s worth hanging onto. I gave it chance after chance to finally get over the edge and it just kept faking me out. Now I’ve been sent over the edge and I’m not faking this.

Goodbye, quite possibly my biggest disappointment this year.

THE GOOD

  • Nothing

THE BAD

  • Symbolism and messaging being the only thing the show has
  • There’s no information to be had, you’re just expected to follow along with a show that seemingly doesn’t know what it is or where it’s going
  • I’m sick and tired of people telling me that Rachel is as bad as she is, but never flat out saying what she actually is, nor revealing it to us

Episode Score: 1.5/5 ***DROPPED***

Harukana Receive (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

While yes, I’m a little unhappy that the show isn’t being as goofy now as it’s been all season, this episode was still pretty good at establishing the growth of everyone. Specifically though, Emily has clearly transformed, being far more aggressive and not just hoping Claire does all the offense. The only thing I worry about now is the result. In all honesty, the Thomas sisters should win the second set next week and take the finals, but I get the feeling we’re getting a third and final set. The sisters should still win in the end, but I think they’re going to pad the episode out with that third set and I assume the final episode is a break as they just celebrate the end of the tournament with a big party and we set up a possible second season with Ayasa and Narumi playing a more integral role.

Whether the show gets a second season or not though, that’s the tougher question.

THE GOOD

  • Good character evolution with Claire and Kanata
  • Great pace with the match

THE BAD

  • I still feel like they’re pushing Haruka’s skills up way too fast, she shouldn’t be hanging this easily with a pair that’s played for years more than her

Episode Score: 3.5/5

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

So it appears that our end goal is indeed a betrayal, but not in the way we expected. So Diablo managed to summon Krebskulm from within Rem…by literally fingering her. I’m not fucking joking. He. Stuck. His. Fingers. Inside. Her.

But yeah, turns out this Krebskulm is either a variation, or has been sealed for so long she forgot what a Demon Lord does. So she’s instead a loli demon who loves to eat. This is where the betrayal will come from Alicia, though she hasn’t done it yet, she intends to make the Demon Lord, y’know…be the Demon Lord. For what reasons, uh…some flashbacks of people being evil? My only guess is she intends to have the Demon Lord wipe the entire mortal races off the planet in order to start anew, as the current batch are too despicable to live? That’s really all I got. But hey, what else is there to talk about when REM WAS LITERALLY GETTING FINGERBANGED IN ORDER TO SUMMON A DEMON!!!

THE GOOD

  • Insanity, just insanity
  • Also Krebskulm made me nearly fall out of my seat laughing so hard

THE BAD

  • I’m admittedly not sure I’m gonna like how this show ends with Alicia being the main “villain”

Episode Score: 4/5

Island (Ep.10)

THOUGHTS

This show has gotten so dark in the past couple episodes, like what the fuck?! Rinne dies, then we flip to the future(?) and a ton of children are killed and tossed in a basement, a friend of Sara’s is shot and killed, her father’s assassinated, then she dies, Karen gets soot blight and dies as well, which by the way, the fucking disease still hasn’t been properly revealed to us, as it’s a bullshit disease.

Then shit gets more confusing. We’re left to believe that this Setsuna is also the Setsuna who we’ve seen all these episodes where Rinne died before we ended up here. But this one loves steampunk Rinne, but that Rinne tells him to go back in time and save hoodie Rinne because…AGH, MY HEAD!!!

So she sends him back 20,000 years it seems and that’s where it stops. Bloody hell, this show.

THE GOOD

  • Honestly? Not too much positive happened here

THE BAD

  • Extremely confused AGAIN
  • Way too dark all of a sudden
  • Yeah…Setsuna would probably be going to jail for fucking Rinne at the end there

Episode Score: 2/5

Overlord III (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

I relaxed a bit since last week’s episode, so I’m no longer having the show sit ‘on notice’. But it remains that the episode really, REALLY pissed me off, even though after talking to a few people who also watched the episode, I kind of understand what the writers were trying to do now. Anyways!

We’re sort of back to normal with Ains continuing Demiurge’s plan of world domination. Nothing really special to speak of, just the usual fodder of Ains looking like a powerful god and everyone else trying to figure out how to get past him. The goal for the Emperor is to have every country together fight Ains, yet at this point we still don’t have anyone who can even kill one of Ains’ minions, let alone himself. So this episode was a whole lot of nothing, just planning.

THE GOOD

  • I mean…likable people weren’t slaughtered this episode

THE BAD

  • Nothing special, just planning for the final few episodes

Episode Score: 2.5/5

Week # 9 — Summer Anime 2018

Week # 9 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Angels of Death (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

This show has completely fallen. Nothing makes any real sense, the characters are not adding any extra interest or intrigue anymore, this what appears to be final floor is not yielding any results, only more questions and lastly, with Zack unable to do much of anything, the one real bright spot is no longer bright. He’s not laughing, he’s not maniacal, he’s not as violent, he’s a bitch right now. Rachel is a flurry of mixed emotions, I have no idea where she’s at now. This priest guy is boring and bland, not offering anything, so all there really is, is Danny and he’s barely getting any screen time, so what the fuck?!

So this show is in danger of being only the second show to do this: have me drop it after hitting the 10-episode mark in a season. The only other one was Big Order and right now, this show has one more shot to have me want to finish it, because I’m not enjoying it one bit now.

THE GOOD

  • Nothing

THE BAD

  • Extreme confusion
  • Zack is no longer the interesting character from episodes past
  • The “final boss” in the priest continues to be boring as hell
  • Rachel is now so all over the place, it’s become irritating

Episode Score: 2/5 ***ON NOTICE***

Cells at Work! (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

An okay episode, a nice look back at the origins of Helper T Cell and the main Killer T Cell. It was an amusing military rookie story, something you’d see in any other military anime, TV show, film, game, whatever. There wasn’t anything too special about it, it was just a nice sit down and watch sort of episode. Didn’t demand too much of my attention, didn’t sway me in either direction, just something I could shut my brain off and enjoy. And I’ll never complain about those.

THE GOOD

  • Nice brain shut off episode, didn’t demand much from m

THE BAD

  • Nothing special to the episode

Episode Score: 3/5

Chio’s School Road (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

A fun little episode, though I really REALLY wish they’d stop using the perverted homeless pedophile. I get shivers every time. The first sketch oddly enough was spot on though, I think Chio really is at her best as she is, she has that “average-looking” hotness to her. As for the second sketch, of course the much older Andou is into Chio. Wouldn’t you be into Bloody Butterfly too? Though I don’t know if extravagant BL moves are gonna do it for her. It was funny to watch though!

THE GOOD

  • Both sketches had their moments

THE BAD

  • I really don’t like them using the creepy homeless guy

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Harukana Receive (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

Not a bad episode, but as we’re winding down to the final few episodes, I get the feeling we’re going to start moving away from what I really liked about the show, which was stuff away from volleyball. Now with the match between Haruka/Kanata and Emily/Claire, I fully expect this to be a multiple episode affair, probably going two episodes and the final episode will be the aftermath. My assumptions? Emily and Claire will still win in the end, but by a much closer margin, perhaps even to sudden death. I think if Haruka and Kanata can take down essentially the second best pair behind Ayase and Narumi, it’s too soon and wouldn’t be all that believable. Emily and Claire have taught them a lot, sure, but don’t think they don’t have tricks they haven’t shown yet either. So ideally, they should win in the end, but we shall see.

THE GOOD

  • I enjoyed the Aragaki sisters, as little as they got in

THE BAD

  • Not nearly as much fun stuff outside of volleyball
  • I worry the massive focus on volleyball with the finals is going to bring down the show

Episode Score: 3/5

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

I guess we’re setting up the final three episodes here. Nothing special really, aside from Edelgard coming back and the resurrection of Krebskull coming (presumably) next week. That paladin looks like a whole lot of nothing, Alicia’s clearly going to stab the trio in the back at some point and Rem tugged the shit out of Shera’s breasts.

Yep. That was the whole episode.

THE GOOD

  • Edelgard’s back
  • Setup for the final three episodes

THE BAD

  • Very ‘meh’ episode
  • Saddler seemed like a whole lot of nothing after that build-up

Episode Score: 3/5

Island (Ep.9)

THOUGHTS

Uh…what?

So is this the future or the past?

How is this Setsuna there right now and how does he have memories of “drowned Rinne”?

Why is the “world” now experiencing what looks like an Ice Age?

Where is Setuna getting these “I have to save something” memories from?

This episode just complicated things to a massive degree. No clarity on what era this takes place in, no clarity on Setsuna himself, nothing but the addition of a massive list of questions. I like guessing and I like needing to ask questions, but generally speaking I’d like at least one answer as well and we got nothing. Very frustrated watching this episode.

THE GOOD

  • I mean…Sara with big boobs?

THE BAD

  • Extremely complicated episode with zero answers

Episode Score: 2.5/5

Overlord III (Ep.8)

THOUGHTS

Dude…that was not cool. This entire series I’ve been fine with Ains and the way he’s done things. These past two episodes have been an absolute departure. When the Lizardmen came last season, he spared them. Carne Village? He may be using them, but he’s spared them. These four, especially the blonde girl, none of them even got a chance to find value to him, they were all slaughtered. The most damning part is that he truly sensed how close this party was together, he saw the camaraderie between the four, reminiscent of his glory days while playing the game. And yet, knowing these four, along with all the others were sent essentially to their deaths by someone else, he cast them off so easily, like they were nothing.

For two seasons and six episodes, I understood that Ains was a villain of sorts. But now he is a monster. And unless this show can give me a reason to stomach this again, I’m going to do something I never thought I’d have to. Put it on notice. Because I’m that pissed off and disgusted by this two-episode complete reversal.

THE GOOD

  • Nothing. I’m that upset

THE BAD

  • A systematic complete reversal of what we have seen from Ains
  • An extremely uncomfortable, and at the end, downright disgusting display
  • As I’m typing this, I’m legitimately shaking in anger. This show meant a lot to me and in two episodes, it completely turned its back on what I enjoyed so much about the show

Episode Score: MINUS FIVE STARS!!!/5 ***ON NOTICE***

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Ep.8)

THOUGHTS

I got my wish. Oboro got some ecchi in and is now part of the harem, as after Kogarashi defeated Genshiro, she wants to continue to make the clan stronger, so she figures having a child with Kogarashi is the best method.

Now look, I might be spoiling one of the awards for the end of the season, but I think I have to say it now: We have our top 3 girls for the Eye Candy award now and I don’t think they’re moving. Rem (Isekai Maou), Claire (Harukana) and now Oboro. Holy shit does she remind me of Laura from Infinite Stratos, but older and more badass. The second she popped up on screen, I was totally in love and now that she’s both metaphorically and fucking literally “opened up”, I’m all in on her. She’s fantastic, I adore the soft spoken, serious, badass tomboy looking girls and come on…SHE’S GOT SILVER HAIR AND A FUCKING EYEPATCH!!!

Ahem…but the episode itself was good. I continually love the “I was possessed by this thing that makes me win” trope that Kogarashi goes through, very reminiscent of Isekai wa Smartphone’s way of solving enemies. Sagiri as per usual had her holy shit ecchi moment and honestly it sucks that she’s gonna miss out on the Eye Candy list because this season has just been so strong, even someone of her caliber isn’t making the Top 3. Just the idea too that when Oboro looks like she’s on top, Nonko just shows up and stops it immediately with her drunken strength. It’s not a show meant to make sense, it’s a show that thrives on making zero sense and being extremely hilarious in the process.

This may also be a spoiler, but unless the final few episodes really shit a brick, this 100% will be my Best Show. Nothing this season has been more enjoyable than this show.

THE GOOD

  • Great ecchi sequences with Sagiri and Oboro
  • Oboro being part of the harem makes me so happy, I was sure she’d be a one-off

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about this week

Episode Score: 5/5

Week # 8 – Summer Anime 2018

Week # 8 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Angels of Death (Ep.8)

THOUGHTS

So Rachel is a monster, Zack is a monster, Danny’s alive and the rest are presumably ghosts. Lot of fuckery going on here and once again, I have no idea what the show is trying to do here. Is this purgatory? Is this hell? Is this somehow some real-life supernatural bullshit? I can’t figure it out, not to mention what the role this priest guy is playing as well. There’s too much going on and I can’t explain any of it.

THE GOOD

  • Intrigued in what this place truly is

THE BAD

  • In return, the worry that all of this in the end will make no sense

Episode Score: 3/5

Cells at Work! (Ep.8)

THOUGHTS

A silly episode for sure, watching RBC trying to get through the heart and lungs on her own. This was more like a filler episode than anything else, no real disease or infection to worry about, or anything like that. Instead, it’s a more peaceful, silly episode where WBC is keeping an eye on RBC’s journey and stealthily helping her stay on the right path. There wasn’t anything special about it, nor was there anything bad, just a relaxing episode.

THE GOOD

  • RBC at least looks like she’s trying to improve
  • Relaxing, light-hearted episode

THE BAD

  • Nothing special happened, just a filler episode

Episode Score: 3/5

Chio’s School Road (Ep.8)

THOUGHTS

A fun episode, mostly having to do with Yuki being a naive pseudo-exhibitionist and Chio just being an idiot trying to live out her Western video game fantasies in real life again. But seriously, I’d 100% play a Splinter Cell style game with Chio as the lead. As we’re two-thirds the way through the season here, I’m starting to run out of descriptive things to say that I’m not just overly repeating here, so I apologize if these thoughts are more “I liked this sketch, but not this sketch.” rather than what they normally can be. The show has tipped its hand completely by this point, so unless it does something extremely ridiculous or uncomfortable, I’ll mostly just talk about what I liked and didn’t like from now on with this show.

THE GOOD

  • Enjoyed the first two acts, especially “Chio Fisher”

THE BAD

  • The disciplinary committee girls isn’t interesting enough to have a sketch

Episode Score: 4/5

Harukana Receive (Ep.8)

THOUGHTS

An okay episode, granted a lot of it was spent on training and random montages, but the episode itself was fine. Marissa is doing a good job pushing everyone to the next task at hand and with a bit of mending with Narumi, there’s that as well. But in terms of overall entertainment, there wasn’t nearly as much, at least not in my eyes. But this was basically a bridge episode, a down period, so I’m not that upset about it.

THE GOOD

  • I love Marissa

THE BAD

  • Not a lot of entertainment value, very much a filler/bridge episode

Episode Score: 3/5

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Ep.8)

THOUGHTS

In 99.9% of Isekai anime like this show, where the main character is the only player trapped in the game, he’s never challenged, at least in terms of being near death. So this is new territory for me to watch, as Diablo actually legitimately had a real close battle on his hands, to the point he exerted all his MP to survive. As I expected, he handled the Force Hydra easily, but for Galford to just appear out of nowhere and literally push him to the limits, that was awesome to watch.

…And then the realism kicks in after one drink. That’s probably what I’d be like if I had one pint of anything. I’ve never gotten drunk before, so I assume I’d be that much of a lightweight. Don’t think I’d be so lucky to have a pink-haired bunny girl to hug though…

THE GOOD

  • Actually having a challenge for Diablo
  • Shocking conclusion to the Prince arc
  • Sylvie’s getting into the ecchi fun

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Island (Ep.8)

THOUGHTS

WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST WATCH?!!! TIME TRAVEL IS LEGITIMATE, THERE’S SOME CRAZY ALIEN TECHNOLOGY HIDING AROUND AND RINNE ACTUALLY FUCKING DIED?!!!

Knowing that Setsuna was a real person, Rinne did indeed disappear for five years without aging and time travel does exist in this world, Jesus H. Fucking Christ that takes every theory I’ve had and turn it upside down. There’s now a part of me that wonders if Kuon and “Drifter” Setsuna are perhaps Rinne and Setsuna respectively from the future, or even beyond that if you count Sara, what if this isn’t a different time period, but an alternate reality altogether? I can’t explain a damn thing now with this episode completely blindsiding me.

But holy freaking hell was I ever engaged once they discovered that little room in the cave!

THE GOOD

  • My intrigue and brain is at an all-time high
  • The show is certainly keeping me guessing

THE BAD

  • Kuon hating Setsuna and then suddenly being nice to him again was random

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Overlord III (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Fucking hell they didn’t hold back, eh? The torture and downright dismantling of everyone except our main party of four was just fucking brutal. Except for Hamusuke, he did a good job! I’m hoping that at the very least, the blonde girl doesn’t get killed, but it’s also very possible all four could stay alive, though I think if anyone’s a potential casualty, it’s that paladin-looking guy with the beard. Here’s hoping…

THE GOOD

  • Good lord, that was brutal
  • HAMUSUKE!!!

THE BAD

  • The poor guy who’s getting a spiky kidney stone…

Episode Score: 4/5

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

An interesting idea to have someone trying to take Yuuna away, but he’s so boring as a character, it doesn’t really work. Hell, I’m faaaaaaaaaaar more interested in the eyepatch girl than anyone else, can’t we just have more of her instead? Admittedly the problem with shows like this is that they focus on one character and generally speaking, for whatever reason, that character is always annoying at times and in this case, Yuuna very much is. Her voice really bugs me after a while and her over-apologizing is irritating as well, so to have that thrown at us throughout an entire episode? Not so much fun. So when someone comes to “steal her”, I’m thinking that this didn’t happen soon enough. You should be going after Sagiri or Chisaki anyways, Kogarashi, you dumb-dumb!

THE GOOD

  • Really like the look of eyepatch girl

THE BAD

  • Weak “villain”
  • Yuuna over-usage really tires me out

Episode Score: 2.5/5

Week # 7 – Summer Anime 2018

Week # 7 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Angels of Death (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

The longer this show goes on, the more I wonder just what Rachel is. Is she a murderer, is she a puppet, is she an innocent lost soul carrying the bloodlust and despair of a murderer? Or let’s take the title of the anime literally, is she the reincarnation of a literal angel of death, like say Azrael? Only time will tell, I suppose, but as we saw this week, Rachel is no longer just acting like her innocent, usual self. She’s more quick to move, doesn’t waste time, has no problem just gunning people down, now that she’s taken a shot at Cathy. Something’s going on here and now it’s a matter of finding out what that is and how this priest fits in with all this.

Also I noticed something very peculiar. After this guy, there’s no one else advertised on the show’s OP or poster. There’s still one more basement floor left after the priest. That only makes me think that the final floor is Rachel’s floor and perhaps she’s the one who designed all of this, the guarding of the final floor. If you want life, you must get through the Angel of Death. I looked into her name in religious texts and it doesn’t appear like her name is synonymous with death, though “Rachel’s Tomb” is described as one of the holiest burial sites in Judaism, so that’s a curious fact. But yeah, who knows what’s going on here, I can tell there’s going to be a lot of symbolism coming up as we learn who Rachel truly is, so I’m looking forward to that reveal.

THE GOOD

  • Very, VERY curious about who Rachel truly is
  • The priest has an interest blend of curiosity and danger about him

THE BAD

  • The potential of having Zack-less episodes

Episode Score: 4/5

Cells at Work! (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Another good episode, much better than last week’s and a good finale to this cancer arc, assuming it’s the only one. NK is my walkaway favourite now on the show, she’s hot, badass and downright hilarious at times. It was also nice to see all the previous cells back for more in this episode as well. But yeah, all this episode really makes me think, is that I really don’t want cancer. I don’t want my body to look like a scene from AKIRA.

THE GOOD

  • I love NK
  • Nice to see everyone back

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Chio’s School Road (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Another ridiculous episode that got a little too weird, but at least this time it wasn’t as disturbing as last week *shudder shudder*. I mean, it’s still a little weird when you’ve got what looks like a grade schooler shoving her fingers up girls’ asses and getting the same done to her, but at least it’s not some creepy old homeless man doing it. The first sketch was all right as well, with Chio trying to hide buying a BL magazine, but the “enema” sketch was clearly the funniest and most ridiculous. Not the show’s best episode, but not the worst. NEEDS MORE YUKI!!!

THE GOOD

  • Absolutely ridiculous second sketch with the younger girl

THE BAD

  • Perhaps a little too much?

Episode Score: 3/5

Harukana Receive (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

Well we finally have our fifth with Akari, who since she’s got no partner, will likely serve as the team’s manager. Though I’m willing to bet that at some point in the season, she’ll have to come in as an emergency replacement for Claire, she seems like the one of the two sisters who’d injure herself. Akari’s all right, she’s certainly weak compared to the Thomas sisters and well, honestly everyone except Haruka, who still at times is just terrible, but Akari will do. I just need to see Ayasa and Narumi back, they’ve been gone for too long now. Magazine covers just don’t cut it anymore.

THE GOOD

  • A rounded out cast of five for the club
  • Kanata really shined this week

THE BAD

  • Akari being a little weaker just shows how weak Haruka as a character is

Episode Score: 3.5/5

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

This episode was all kinds of meh, nothing really funny, nothing too sexy (cause fabric-melting slimes look like shit) and while it’s nice we have an actual villain here in Shera’s brother, his cheap tactics of having mind control just didn’t make him that interesting, rather just made him seem like an easy character to use to push the story forward and not require much explanation as to how. Either way, Diablo will deal with him and his “powerful Summon” next week and hopefully as well, we get that dark elf back into the fray. She’s been gone for far too long.

THE GOOD

  • The show has a villain…

THE BAD

  • …but the villain mostly sucks
  • No real notable comedy or ecchi either, which is amazing for this show

Episode Score: 2/5

Island (Ep.7)

THOUGHTS

I’m still confused, the anime is doing its best to make me wonder if there’s nothing going on at all with this time travel, over-the-top storytelling stuff, or if there truly is something insane going on with these islands. Either way, I’m interested in what’s actually happening, though this episode didn’t do the greatest job of being all that interesting. Rinne when she’s being bitchy and whiny, it isn’t that much fun to watch and it really brought the episode down for me. Couple that with a lot of downtime, nothing really funny happening, and we’ve got a meh episode.

THE GOOD

  • More intrigue, keeping me guessing

THE BAD

  • Rinne was terrible this episode
  • Nothing funny or truly notable to speak of

Episode Score: 2.5/5

Overlord III (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Well we’ve got all our new characters out of the way now. Climb and company are back, but probably not integral this time around. Maybe later, with this Bloody Emperor guy that looks like a real pushover. We have new adventurers though and they seem to be the real catch this season, as they’re heading into the Tomb of Nazarick. It’s not stated, but it’s obvious they are, both from the clues they give with the map and Arche describing a small village nearby. Not to mention, Momonga clear asks these guys why they’re going to this “ruin”, as if he’s asking them one more time, before they inevitably are killed. I wonder how many of these characters will live, I would assume Arche is one of them, but after that, who knows. I can tell that silver-haired douche though will definitely be forcing a VERY uncomfortable scene on the half-elf later in the season.

THE GOOD

  • New characters, while some return
  • Nazarick is getting its first intruders

THE BAD

  • Wasn’t overly attached to any of these new characters

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

We actually had a weaker episode this week, though not by too much. Nakai’s half was entertaining, gave us a different look about her that was ridiculous and silly, the second half wasn’t too bad either with Yuuna going on a date with Kogarashi to another hot spring place. But the downside to this episode was that there wasn’t anything overwhelming about the episode, nothing truly stood out. It kinda shows us who the weaker characters on the roster are, especially with Yuuna. She’s better off bouncing off the other girls, but on her own she’s not as good.

THE GOOD

  • A few silly spots and ridiculousness with Nakai’s “dream”

THE BAD

  • Relatively underwhelming, nothing standing out

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Week # 6 – Summer Anime 2018

Week # 6 has arrived with the 2018 summer anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Angels of Death (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Well, she’s finally gone. Though apparently so is Zack, via his own self-inflicted wound. What a confusing episode, there’s a lot of explaining that needs to be done now. Rachel was carrying a loaded gun the entire time, so we’ll be getting some crazy backstory at some point, Zack in his drug-induced rage somehow (and for some reason) turns the scythe on himself and thus brings masochist bitch out of hiding and in the end, ends up dying. I don’t think this was a plan either, so it really begs the question as to what the fuck possessed both Zack and Rachel to take the steps they did. I’m just waiting for the supernatural shit to happen now with Zack, cause he can’t be dead yet either, right?

THE GOOD

  • Finally ending the Cathy arc
  • Rachel has some intrigue to her now

THE BAD

  • I’m so bloody confused…

Episode Score: 3/5

Cells at Work! (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

A good episode this week, though a little too much time awarded to the kiddy cells part of the episode. I loathe anime where there’s a lot of crying, so this episode really started to annoy me after a while with little RBC growing up. It was still fun, but had its real irritating moments. The second half on the other hand offers an interesting episode next week, where it appears we’re actually dealing with cancer cells. Not to mention of course another female cell in my body that I’m apparently sexually attracted to now. What is it now? Four? Five?

THE GOOD

  • Really liked the NK Cell
  • Intrigue going into next week, something this show hasn’t done yet

THE BAD

  • A little too much crying on little RBC’s bit

Episode Score: 3/5

Chio’s School Road (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Fun, but quite uncomfortable. Madoka was, uh…yeah…I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s funny that she’s BEYOND overly aggressive with other girls, but they held onto it a little too long and to mention the old, homeless guy that got arrested for molesting girls too. Yeah, that might’ve crossed the line a little. There were still funny moments though. The second half however, kinda crap.

THE GOOD

  • Some funny exchanges in the first half

THE BAD

  • Very uncomfortable moments with Madoka and the old molestor
  • Crap second half

Episode Score: 2.5/5

Harukana Receive (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

A fair ending to the match. As expected, Kanata was just tiring her opponents out and thus they made their comeback and won in straight sets. I think I would’ve preferred though for the two to end up winning in a third set, thus giving the other girls a little more to hang their hats on. Either way, they never progressed further and it appears the push for the second half of the season is getting the girls to qualify for nationals along with Emily and Claire.

How much you wanna bet it means having to beat Narumi and Ayasa?

THE GOOD

  • Decent ending to the match
  • Progression from both Haruka and Kanata
  • Claire. Just Claire. Holy shit!

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

Welp, magic sensing apparently has to be sexual, Shera’s brother wants to pump a baby in her and Jesus H. Fucking Christ this show just needs a hentai adaptation already, because it clearly wants to be just that. That last little bit with Rem and Shera…my god.

Other than that, yeah…crazy incest-desiring brother and a lot of sexual tension. That sure was an episode!

THE GOOD

  • Rem. My god…
  • Finally getting a villain

THE BAD

  • I need a headset at all times when watching this show now

Episode Score: 4/5

Island (Ep.6)

THOUGHTS

I’m pretty much convinced at this point that everything we’ve been told up until this point and any other legends we hear as things go on, will just be that, legends, fairy tales, stories. With Rinne “remembering” that Setsuna is not actually the “real Setsuna”, all this does is make me think they’re pulling the Firewatch strategy here and making a giant mystery that actually leads to something completely unrelated to the entire mystery. I’m still waiting to hear about how soot blight syndrome isn’t actually a real thing, I personally figure her father died of a heart attack after the stress of him finding his very young daughter seemingly in the company of an older man, which…

Holy shit. I have a really dark theory now. There’s no way I’m right on this, I don’t think the show will turn that dark in the end, but hey, why not have fun in making up crazy theories? What if this Setsuna was actually a predator who brainwashed Rinne with all these crazy legends and such to keep her from running away from him and her father was just trying to save her after he realized what this man was doing? There’s so much else unanswered mind you, like Setsuna’s origins before waking up, Kuon’s past, not to mention why she looks so pissed off in those moments during this episode. There’s a lot still going on and we’ll just have to wait and see.

THE GOOD

  • Continuation of my curiosity with this whole mystery
  • Sara bluntly asking sex-related questions

THE BAD

  • Kind of random how they just reveal Setsuna isn’t the real one

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Overlord III (Ep.5)

THOUGHTS

A better episode, though I think next week will be more when things start to turn around more, as we get back into the fold with Ainz and company again. It was nice to see Enri and Nphi confess to each other, they were very smart in how they handled the troll alone, but I will admit that I didn’t like how the show basically glossed over the goblins killing that undead troll, we were just left to assume they won handily after being so threatened moments before. But yeah, can’t really say much more, as I’m waiting to see how these two get brought into the full plans of Nazarick.

THE GOOD

  • Better episode for Enri and Nphi

THE BAD

  • A little rushed through the fight, goblins won without us seeing the victory

Episode Score: 3/5

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Ep.5)

THOUGHTS

I think at this point I need to stop being so surprised with how much fun I’m having watching the show. All the characters are lively and fun to watch, the comedy is really good, the ecchi is top-notch and most importantly, no episode is falling flat or boring me. This week we get a way around the problem of Chisaki not being able to see Yuuna and that turned out to be a really cute and endearing episode, whereas on the flip side we got the absurdity and in some ways, downright stupidity of Nonka and her manga career in the second half. Both were very enjoyable skits, though if I had to pick one, Chisaki’s half was just a little more entertaining in the end, but both were fantastic.

THE GOOD

  • Both skits were top-notch
  • Chisaki continues to make a good case for a character that needs to be added to the inn

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5
