Week # 5 – Spring Anime 2018

Week # 5 has arrived with the 2018 spring anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Amanchu! Advance (Ep.5)

THOUGHTS

Well other than the identity of the Jet-Black Mermaid (which was fucking retarded!), the episode was pretty good. Futaba’s still improving, hits a wall for a moment, doubts herself initially, but gets back up again and resumes her progress. We also get to meet Hikari’s younger sister, who I feel oh so sorry for. This episode was one of the more diving intensive episode, which can be a pro or a con, depending on things. It’s a mixed bag for me this time around, as there was some good shots and moments, but it also dragged a little bit as well. Still can’t complain all that much though.

THE GOOD

  • Futaba continuing her progress
  • More new characters with Hikari’s sister getting involved

THE BAD

  • Diving scenes dragged a tiny bit

Episode Score: 4/5

Butlers X Battlers (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

T’was a decent episode. The over-the-top butler battle was fun to watch, seeing Hotaru get all pissy cause the Headmaster has the hots for sister was fun, all in all it was a good episode. That blonde bitch was a bit irritating, but hey, you gotta have someone to get pissed off at eventually, right? As for the plot, it seems we’re starting to get some real progress here, as J’s bracelet appears to reveal a code to something. Now the question becomes what’s next and in fact, are we eventually going to see a villain of sorts, or is this the status quo all the way through?

THE GOOD

  • Butler battle was quite entertaining

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Comic Girls (Ep.5)

THOUGHTS

And once again, when the season continues to get bleaker and bleaker, this show comes out and just blows me away. Yes, the first half was basically a swimsuit episode, but man was I surprised with that second half. Given the show’s subject matter, I wasn’t expecting a yuri relationship to appear like this, but given how things have worked out so far, it makes perfect sense for Koyume and Tsubasa to have interest in each other. The real question is, does Tsubasa have those same feelings or is it more of a sisterly relationship she sees with Koyume? Either way, I’m glad to see the show take a chance at developing a relationship that’s more than just friends and/or colleagues.

And because I do this every swimsuit episode, drum roll please! …Oh right, blog post, no sound effects. Ahem! The winner of this week’s swimsuit episode is…TSUBASA!!! I mean come on, stripes and that flat stomach. She was perfect. Koyume is second, losing out the top spot because I’m not so big on frills, Ruki is third, not because of her flat chest mind you, her bikini was just very bland. And I’d say Kaos gets fourth, but she’s disqualified due to being too adorable to actually constitute as a competitor.

THE GOOD

  • Swimsuit episode
  • VERY interesting relationship forming with Koyume and Tsubasa

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 5/5

Hinamatsuri (Ep.5)

THOUGHTS

I can’t believe I’m saying this when so much of the episode was centered around Hitomi, but I think I’m going to have to put this show on notice. For a comedy, the jokes just aren’t hitting. Like ever. After the first couple episodes, it’s completely gone, like the well has dried up. Hina isn’t funny at all now, Anzu’s just annoying and Hitomi is just being put in the same situation again and again. Like unless I want to look at Utako for a couple minutes each episode, the amount of things this show is offering to me, it’s lessening every single episode.

THE GOOD

  • Hitomi did her absolute best to try and sell this episode

THE BAD

  • Every joke missed, nothing felt funny at all

Episode Score: 2/5

Status: On Notice

Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

I have to admit, this show really shows the idiocy of people who win the lottery and was really starting to piss me off as the episode continued on. People overspending, becoming the snobby folks they once hated. People just throwing money at the problem, or giving away money too generously, not realizing how fast that money will actually go. All of it was quite frustrating and the one that pissed me off the most was the line that basically translates to “What’s the point of having money if you’re not going to spend it?”. People like that are the most insane out there.

The other downside here is how am I supposed to like Liza or Gajeru after this episode. I was already halfway to Wiseman and now there’s literally zero reason to want anyone other than Wiseman to win. At least Haru has the sense to save his money and not be a fucking moron about it.

THE GOOD

  • Wiseman actually being good

THE BAD

  • I have zero reason to like Liza or Gajeru now

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Mahou Shoujo Ore (Ep.5)

THOUGHTS

I don’t like meta episodes. They’re not funny.

THE GOOD

  • N/A

THE BAD

  • N/A

Episode Score: Blegh/5

Space Battleship Tiramisu (Ep.5)

THOUGHTS

Subaru spends the entire episode eating rice and slowly taking off his clothes. What the fuck else do you want on this show?!

THE GOOD

  • Naked Subaru is best Subaru

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Tachibanakan Triangle (Ep.5)

THOUGHTS

The same point has reached for this show as many others. I love this show, but I can’t profess how much I love it again and again, because there’s not a whole lot you can do with a 3-minute short here. Actually, this episode was pretty lacking, not to mention I found the entire premise meh, because I hate the fishnet-ridden outfit that Iori had on in this episode.

But yeah, show’s still awesome, but I think it’s time that it goes off the weekly, thus eliminating all the sub 5-minute shorts.

THE GOOD

  • Same good ol’ hijinks

THE BAD

  • Iori deserves better than that shit outfit

Episode Score: 3/5

Status: Watching on own time

Week # 4 – Spring Anime 2018

Week # 4 has arrived with the 2018 spring anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Amanchu! Advance (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Well this was a weird episode, now wasn’t it? It’s not to say that this show hasn’t had its over-the-top weird stuff in there, just not almost ten minutes of Futaba having a lucid dream levels of weird. It’s nice to see Kokoro back and getting to know a little more of her as well, but overall I think the episode really wasn’t at its best this week. A lot of more random stuff, a little more calming, that kind of episode. Not saying it’s bad per se, but in terms of giving this episode a rating, it didn’t go out of its way to earn the highest ratings I can give an episode. Nothing wrong with that, not every episode needs to blow me away. Hell, I still love this show, even during its weaker episodes. It’s soothing, relaxing, beats being frustrated trying to understand a story or dealing with shitty arcs.

Side note though, how dumb is it that Futaba didn’t get the girl’s name, yet woke up right after she did and didn’t think to check the table next to her? You could make the argument she forgets everything after waking up, but I remember lucid dreams a lot, so I’m not letting that one get by so easily.

THE GOOD

  • Relaxing episode
  • More of Kokoro
  • Liked the other new girl, hope we see her again

THE BAD

  • Nothing overwhelming

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Butlers X Battlers (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

Pretty standard in-between episode this week. Mostly investigations, one legitimate, one random and leading nowhere, like Hotaru stalking the music teacher, who’s actually just his older sister. Not saying incest isn’t out of the question (this is anime after all…), but this was clearly just a side plot to go with what was a filler episode as Kouma is getting closer and closer to Tsubasa and Tenna’s pendant. Nothing really too special going this week, just sort of setting the stage for things.

THE GOOD

  • Randomness of Hotaru’s stalker sidestory
  • Short battle between Kouma and Tsubasa was actually pretty cool

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Caligula (Ep.4) *On Notice*

THOUGHTS

Y’know what? When I really put my mind to it, the show isn’t really as bad as it seems like it is. The animation is great, the action is cool, the world is interesting, there’s a lot going for the show. However when you have a concept as complex and mysterious as Caligula’s story is, you need to be able to explain it well, otherwise you’re going to lose the viewership. And that’s exactly what this show has done to me. I don’t hate the show, but I’m tired for four weeks in a row having no clue what the message or story is that this show is trying to tell me. It feels like the show is trying to tell small sidestories like 18if did, however that show actually conveyed the story with absolute clarity, while this show is making it more confusing each passing episode.

I don’t think this show is bad, but I cannot let things slide if a show is not going to put any real effort into making sense of the complexities they’re trying to tell in their story.

THE GOOD

  • Interesting referencing with the Lord of the Rings books

THE BAD

  • Show continues to be extremely confusing, doesn’t explain anything really well

Episode Score: 2.5/5

Comic Girls (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

I loved this episode, it’s a great look into what it probably really is like for someone who gets their first real taste of fan adulation. The struggles of keeping up appearances, worrying that people will think of you differently now that they see you in real life, y’know all that stuff. Instead, reality does set in and the adulation comes forth, sending Ruki into an insurmountable bliss. I only hope that I can attain even remotely something close to like what we saw in this episode, one that was really enjoyable to watch this week.

THE GOOD

  • Touching moments with Ruki
  • Kaos actually being useful!

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Hinamatsuri (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Another not-so-great episode. Some fun stuff towards the end with Hitomi and Anzu, but I’ve gotta say, Hina on her own is actually quite boring at times. I think I need to see more stuff to what Episodes 1 and 2 were, it’s starting to get a little too far on the slice of life and isn’t really adding anything to the show we’ve got so far. I really want the show to be funny and I think it’s trying a little too hard to be funny while having some serious issues. Problem is, only a few shows can do that successfully and this show when it tries to do so, just isn’t one of them.

THE GOOD

  • Hitomi continues to be the shining star

THE BAD

  • Hina on her own is not as fun as I thought it’d be
  • Boring episode overall

Episode Score: 3/5

Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

Another silly episode, going even harder on the memes and mobile game/anime references. I think I have to agree with Liza calling Choco “Meme Girl”, it works pretty damn well. Only better name would be “Chocopool”, I think. But yeah, the show continues on with the silliness, chalk full of dumb puns, jokes and idiotic plot devices. This really is a show where you watch it take the piss out of any and every cliche in the book and it’s freaking awesome

THE GOOD

  • Meme Girl
  • Classic “girl scared shitless” trope

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Mahou Shoujo Ore (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

This is one of those shows where you’re not being blown away by it, but it’s also not really doing anything wrong to warrant dropping. The show is actually really funny, weird and random, which is indeed the kind of anime I’m drawn to, but for whatever reason it’s not blowing me away to the point it’s hitting 4s and up. I do enjoy the absurdity, the facial expressions and the humour, but it almost feels like it’s missing something. Unfortunately for this episode, the cyborg guy didn’t really add anything that really helps the show, he’s just another character kind of lost in the shuffle almost. I think maybe what we really need is a good villain that can work off the girls, and if it’s that idol boy that keeps trying to steal Mohiro away from Saki, I don’t think he’s the one, unless when he shows his true colours, he goes way off the spectrum.

THE GOOD

  • Humour is still certainly there

THE BAD

  • For whatever reason, the show just isn’t doing anything to get past its plateau

Episode Score: 3/5

Space Battleship Tiramisu (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

A massive need to pee and a talking pubic hair…yup! This is the show that I’m liking the most so far this season! Seriously, the absurdity still keeps climbing and Subaru continues to be arguably my favourite overall character this season. The guy is so perfect, yet has the most ridiculous flaws at the same time, it’s impossible not to love him. Now we just need Ligier to put him off edge and you almost want a guy to also throw him off in that sense too.

Speaking of which, I’m still waiting for the blonde with the eyepatch!

THE GOOD

  • Bonkers second half
  • Subaru continues to shine

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Tachibanakan Triangle (Ep.4)

THOUGHTS

Well I guess it had to have a bad episode in there. Basically the entire episode is about Konomi being unable to go to the bathroom cause of random shenanigans. Wasn’t funny, no real good ecchi in it, just an overall stinker of an episode. Doesn’t make me want to put it on notice, just a really, REALLY bad episode

THE GOOD

  • …Girls?

THE BAD

  • Konomi-centered episode
  • Gross premise for the entirety
  • Nothing good to note of really

Episode Score: 2/5

Week # 3 – Spring Anime 2018

Week # 3 has arrived with the 2018 spring anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Amanchu! Advance (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

Another fun little episode, though nothing too, too special beyond Cha and Hime as per usual just making me giggle and laugh constantly. Seeing Futaba finally starting to get her shit together and wanting to get her advanced license, so she can no longer be holding Hikari back, it’s a great thing to see. That’ll be the bulk of the season, I imagine, unless they also do actually take the steps to have a legitimate romantic relationship form between the two, since it’s so plainly obvious.

THE GOOD

  • Nice to see Futaba taking real steps forward now
  • Cha/Hime ruling the show as usual

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Akkun to Kanojo (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

And now three episodes in, it’s becoming tougher to talk about this show without saying the same things over again. I mean this time we see that he has a sister who is also in love with Non, so there’s that. But I think we’re at the point where I can’t really say much anymore, because nothing’s really changed, nor can it really in a 3-minute short. So again, I’m not dropping this from the weekly because it’s bad, but because I’m basically wasting your time having you read something that isn’t changing week-to-week.

THE GOOD

  • Addition of a sister who’s also in love with Non

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Status: Watching on my own time

Butlers X Battlers (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

Surprisingly, the show is retaining its value and is actually getting better. Much like Code:Realize, this show is a male-dominated show and yet is staying cheerful and fun while also maintaining a degree of intrigue with the key storylines beyond just your basic slice of life. It does indeed help that having a bisexual interest in this show exists, but I think even without that, there’s enough with these guys that makes the show very lively, in the same way that other shows that are female-dominated do the same. I’m almost okay with the show maintaining this pace, as I’m afraid if it ever gets really serious, it won’t be nearly as fun to watch.

Because a bunch of pretty boys doing silly things together, that’s the fun part.

THE GOOD

  • Loved the almost whimsical nature of this episode
  • Keeping the level of fun that kept me interested

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Caligula (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

I’ll make this short. Next week, I have to see some real action and progress, otherwise I’m dropping it for the sheer standpoint in that the show is taking way too long to tip its hand. It’s pretty obvious what’s going on, but the show is wasting time just being weird and creepy for the sake of making the world seem so uneasy. At the very least, the cute blogger girl with glasses finally woke the fuck up.

But yeah, I was progress next week, or it’s bye-bye for this one.

THE GOOD

  • Very weird and creepy imagery with the SweetP world

THE BAD

  • Show is taking way too long to establish itself, despite the interesting concept

Episode Score: 2.5/5

Status: On Notice

Comic Girls (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

Once again, the show keeps running smoothly. So far, the show has been fantastic at being whimsical, funny, light-hearted and well…sometimes sexy as fuck. You’ve got everything you need in the three girls that isn’t Kaoruko, you’ve got Ruki for the thin, small-breasted girl, you’ve got Koyume as the titular gorgeous blonde and you’ve got Tsubasa as the sexy tomboy that is running away with Best Girl. Mix that with the silliness the show has to offer and this show is running on all cylinders. Loving it right now.

THE GOOD

  • Great mix of comedy, slice of life and ecchi

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Crossing Time (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

Long story short, they’re fun little stories, but I’m gonna take it off the list on the weekly because it’s hard to talk about a show that’s a different short every time. Without progression, without a consistent cast, it’s hard to talk about the show every week with the same passion I would for other shows that I watch all the way through.

That being said, I strongly urge you still to watch this show. It’s only 3 minutes of your time and these little stories are quite amusing to watch.

Episode Score: 4/5

Status: Watching on my own time

Hinamatsuri (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

An all right episode, not nearly as entertaining, but I’m willing to bet this episode was meant to be a little more tougher than others, especially with Anzu dealing with the homeless life. Really, the only fun part was Hitomi blending in as a bartender, otherwise both Anzu and Hina’s sections this week weren’t over-the-top fun. Though it’s not like I’m hating anything, it just wasn’t nearly as entertaining as past episodes have been.

THE GOOD

  • Hitomi is slowly becoming one of the better characters on the show

THE BAD

  • Anzu’s story was a little too serious for my liking

Episode Score: 3/5

Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

Yep, this show is not a fluke and may just be the best episode making fun of gacha mobile games I’ve ever seen. Sweet mother of mystery, the over-the-top characters, the shitty copy/paste storylines, the clear money-grabbing schemes, it’s all there and mostly from Choco’s fourth wall breaking, which has been fantastic thus far. I at least appreciate that the heroes aren’t losing terribly every single time, though after the hot springs scenes, I think I’m on Wiseman’s side anyways. HAVE YOU SEEN THE SILVER-HAIRED GLASSES GIRL?!!! DAMN!!!

THE GOOD

  • Fourth wall breaking
  • Hot springs!!!

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Mahou Shoujo Ore (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

Not a bad episode, but definitely a little too much time spent on the flashback, specifically the “sing-alongs”, they got to be a little much. I love the direction they’re taking now though, where Sakuyo is in zero fucks given mode now, both in battle and in wanting her hands in Saki’s pants. So now you have Sakuyo, who will go out of her way to try and court Saki, you’ve got that contrast with Mohiro, who is as hard to read as you can get. Loving things so far, just want it to stick a little more to the fun stuff and the comedy, little less time with the 5-minute long singing expositions.

THE GOOD

  • Sakuyo is now relevant and amazing

THE BAD

  • Way too much time on the flashback and singing

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Space Battleship Tiramisu (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

Still keeping up the fun, now with a female influence as well with the busty and quite sultry Ligier. The hilarity of him getting stuck in the over-the-top female mech was hysterical and really sold the episode this week. The second half was more ridiculous than anything else and didn’t hit as hard, but the first half is so strong, I can easily look past it.

Seriously, I don’t get why so many people aren’t liking this show!!!

THE GOOD

  • Hysterical first half with the female-designed mech

THE BAD

  • Weaker second half

Episode Score: 4/5

Tachibanakan Triangle (Ep.3)

THOUGHTS

Again, another great episode, with Iori once again at the center of attention (as she should be!). I’ve accepted the fact now that people are just downvoting it to hell since it’s basically softcore and nothing else, yet it still pisses me off when everyone happily jumped to Darling in the FranXX without question.

Either way, I’ll enjoy this episode in peace, while simultaneously getting frustrated as I watch Hanabi not just enjoy herself in one of the hottest harems I’ve ever seen.

THE GOOD

  • Comedy keeps coming

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Week # 2 – Spring Anime 2018

Week # 2 has arrived with the 2018 spring anime season. What’s in store this week?!

Just like every week, I’ll be watching my selected shows for the season and giving my brief feelings on the episode, along with things I liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s get a’watchin’!

NOTE: I’m hoping to post these every Monday now instead of Wednesday, this way I can focus on finishing the weekly over the weekend, rather than rushing on Mondays and Tuesdays after work when I’m already exhausted.

Also, if any shows don’t start up by Sunday this week, I will still look at them like I’ve been these first two weeks.

Alrighty! Let’s get to it!

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!***

Amanchu! Advance (Ep.2) *Already Keeping*

THOUGHTS

And there’s what I was talking about. An episode that while it wasn’t the saddest, it definitely threw in some sad themes and yet came out happy and beautiful as all hell. With the addition of Kokoro now, we appear to have a younger influence on things, which could be a great mix with the cast we already have, especially with Kokoro being quite the tomboy. She’ll meld perfectly with this group. But yeah, the episode as a whole was very sweet, with plenty of over-the-top Pikari moments inserted in between.

THE GOOD

  • Kokoro is potentially a fantastic addition to the cast
  • Pikari on point this episode

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Akkun to Kanojo (Ep.2) *Already Keeping*

THOUGHTS

Hehehe, this show is adorable. Originally I thought Atsuhiro would be the one who sells this show, but I think this episode proves that it’s more Non who is pushing things forward, as when she gets super happy when she receives affection, it’s the most adorable thing.

The question remains though, can I talk about this show every week without it getting pointless? The problem I’ve had with 3-minute shorts in the past is that I can’t make a weekly post every time because the show doesn’t do much different. So far, so good, but I will admit there’s a very good chance I remove it from this weekly post, just because I’ll have nothing else to add. There’s no point in just saying “It’s still good.”, y’know?

THE GOOD

  • Non really sells the show when it’s at its best

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Butlers X Battlers (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

Here’s another show I’m surprised by the low rating. I’m not saying the show is amazing, but I’m not seeing anything that really bothered me. Is it because it’s an all-boy show? Who knows, but from this first taste, I see nothing wrong, so much as just nothing was overly impressive. However, I think that’s due to the show trying to introduce you to so many people in one episode, you really didn’t get enough time to get into anyone. If anything though, I will say as of post-episode, the male lead is not the most interesting character, while characters like Haruto and Yuuki were very interesting. As of right now, I’m more than okay with this show and I’m curious to see where it leads. It has a feeling that Code:Realize gave me at first, though that show was even stronger in the beginning.

THE GOOD

  • A number of interesting characters
  • A show that’s male-dominated and I don’t feel overwhelmed by the lack of women

THE BAD

  • Main character is leaving a little to be desired

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Status: Likely Keeper

Caligula (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

I’m curious enough and the imagery we’ve seen thus far is cool enough that even though I still have no real understanding of what’s going on, well I mean, I have an idea but it’s nothing confirmed, but either way the show is interesting enough that I want to find out what’s up with the world and the characters within them. The leads are still not as interesting as I’d like them (other than the glasses girl), but the story and the mystery of the world as of right now are interesting enough for me to want to see what’s next. Will this show last? Maybe, maybe not, but it’s got potential to be very interesting, or just a colossal waste of time.

THE GOOD

  • Curious concept continues on

THE BAD

  • Main characters are still very weak

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Status: Keeper

Comic Girls (Ep.2) *Already Keeping*

THOUGHTS

Another really fun episode, not quite as perfect as the first episode, but retaining the qualities that I really enjoyed the first time. With the girls all going back to school, we’re getting a better sense of who they are, though Kaoruko doesn’t count, as she’s being the unrealistic “I can’t talk to people except for the ones I live with!!!” weird girl. There was a lot to enjoy, the art supplies trip offered a number of good jokes especially, so good on the show for keeping up the pace.

THE GOOD

  • Hilarity continues on with little deviation
  • We’ve got two different levels of things with school now added to the mix

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Crossing Time (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

I can tell this show will be a quick paragraph because of it’s 3-minute time and the content. Regardless it was a nice episode about two girls at a train crossing just shooting the breeze until a playful prank by one of them gets the other to reveal that she’s actually in love with her. I don’t know if this will be the whole plot, but the interaction between the two was fine, nothing too special here. I might end up watching this on my own if it doesn’t get much more beyond this, but we’ll see. For now, it was a nice 3-minute sit down.

THE GOOD

  • Nice little love story developing

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 3.5/5

Status: Likely Keeper (may watch on my own)

GeGeGe no Kitaro (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

Two episodes down and honestly I don’t really have any reason to continue. The show like I said last week, it’s freaking gorgeous, I absolutely adore the art style, but that’s really all it has going for it. I don’t find the cast that interesting, aside from Mana, these episodic stories have been extremely boring and non-chalant, but most of all, I get the sense that this show is designed almost like a children’s show that you’d see on a typical Saturday morning run. Jokes, jokes, jokes, meet the bad guy this episode, he does a bad thing, hero fights and eventually wins with a super OP ability or some bullshit shenanigans. I think mostly this show just isn’t designed for me, so I won’t say it’s a bad show, but it’s just not anything that’s generating a lot of interest from me, if any at all.

THE GOOD

  • Art style is still fantastic

THE BAD

  • Very boring, bad comedy and didn’t get anything to attach to

Episode Score: 2/5

Status: Dropped

Hinamatsuri (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

This show so far is staying away from the dark themes, so we’re good thus far. With Anzu coming into the fray, I thought we might get something a little more risky, a little more dangerous, but it turns out she’s just a friend for Hina to bounce off of and just add more to the cast we’ve got. This episode also introduces us to Hitomi a little more and hell, I hope we get to see that bartender, Utako more. She was really fun and interesting (and super hot) as well! I gotta say, if this show doesn’t delve too far into the serious, there is great potential here.

THE GOOD

  • Anzu really blends well with Hina
  • Utako is a hidden gem on this show

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4.5/5

Status: Keeper

Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari (Ep.1)

THOUGHTS

I like this show and yet beyond just it’s light-hearted nature and vibrant animation, I’m not really sure why I like it so much. Maybe it reminds me a lot of Konosuba but going even deeper on a mobile MMORPG kind of deal here. The amount of fourth-wall breaking, over-the-top cheesy jokes and the cliche characters who are over-exaggerated in every single way, it’s just working really well. I wish I could put this into better words, but man oh man my brain is fried trying to to come up with a list here. I guess the easiest way of saying it, well…this show makes me smile uncontrollably. That’s a good start, right?

THE GOOD

  • Hysterical and whimsical
  • Random as hell
  • Super adorable

THE BAD

  • Nothing to complain about

Episode Score: 4/5

Magical Girl Ore (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

I think based on how this show not only takes potshots at traditional anime, but is so unbelievably fucking weird that I think it automatically gets a free pass. Holy freaking hell this show is all over the place, but in a good way, an anime way. Cute magical girls? Nope, buff dudes. Over-the-top sparkly magical attacks? Nope, beating monsters to a bloody pulp with a blunt instrument. This show completely reverses everything you know and love about mahou shoujo and for a guy who normally cannot stand that genre, it’s a very welcome premise.

THE GOOD

  • So over-the-top random, I love it!
  • Reversal of traditional mahou shoujo anime makes for a better experience

THE BAD

  • I just hope the show doesn’t run out of jokes

Episode Score: 4/5

Status: Keeper

Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai (Ep.2)

THOUGHTS

It’s dumb

THE GOOD

  • Pfft!

THE BAD

  • It’s dumb. You heard me.

Episode Score: NOPE!/5

Status: I still don’t know, but…Dropped.

Space Battleship Tiramisu (Ep.2) *Already Keeping*

THOUGHTS

Same sillyness, little less space boy butt though. The dog section was funny and a little sad in a cheesy way, though I’ll admit the second half where he gets mad because some old mechanic lady screwed with his cockpit didn’t land as well as the bits before. The show is still certainly on a fantastic path, just nowhere near as strong as last week’s amazing episode.

THE GOOD

  • Dog section of the show was hysterical

THE BAD

  • Weaker second half

Episode Score: 4/5

Tachibanakan Triangle (Ep.2) *Already Keeping*

THOUGHTS

Yeah, I don’t care what anyone says, this show is hysterical. As someone who has zero issue with ecchi of any kind, this is exactly the kind of show I need after a shit day. It’s peppy, it’s cheerful and it’s stupid, in a good way. Yuu is your resident pervert, Iori is a nudist apparently and Hanabi basically falls into everything that involves a naked girl. It’s stupid fun, can we as an anime community stop raising our noses up just cause the show has ecchi in it?

THE GOOD

  • Still quite funny

THE BAD

  • The younger sister is kind of annoying

Episode Score: 4/5
